I am stealing this idea from other threads. I have been reading and sometimes commenting in this forum for almost three years. There are many posters who have interesting comments and perspectives about the game. What's missing is a context with which to frame the perspective. On the men's D3 board they do an introduction thread each year which gives other users of the forum a little insight regarding the poster's interest in hockey. I thought it might be fun to learn a little about the posters on the women's board.
I'll go first. I thought if we answered the following it would give us some insight about why we post and why we care.
NAME: (if you want to) Bob Greemore
AGE: (approximations are fine) 55
Hometown: Barre, VT
Women's Team you root for: New England College Pilgrims
Why interested in Women's Hockey: Daughter loves the game so I am a fan. Attended all but 3 of her games last year.
Your Hockey Experience: Played youth and high school hockey, coached youth hockey, served on board of directors when we started girl's youth hockey in our local association, serve on state hockey board.
Other interests: Yankees, NY Football Giants, Tampa Bay Lightning, following my son's sports.
Favorite Women's Game you've seen: I would have to say the NEC vs. RPI matchups last year. The second regular season game and the playoff contest were close, well played and exciting.
So jump on in and let's find out who we are! :)
NAME: Todd Smith
AGE: 42
Hometown: Burlington, MA
Women's Team you root for: Harvard and UNH. (Sacrificing small animals to the great puck spirit so that UMass will get funding for a team
Why interested in Women's Hockey: The growth over the past decade has opened up a lot of opportunities for young girls that weren't there before. I had a friend in high school who was exceptional, and could have played on the National Championship teams that Burlington had in the mid and late '70's, and she wasn't allowed. She did play for the Rag Dolls, which was the forerunner of Assabet, but again, the opportunities were not the same.
Now my nieces have the opportunity to play on either an all girls team, or co-ed, and the only obstacle to them will be their desire, talent, and commitment.
Your Hockey Experience: Life long love of the game, though only recently started playing competitively. Currently a USA Hockey Level 3 certified coach, and leading the Initiation program in town this year. Also coaching my niece's mite team.
Other interests: Huh? ;)
Favorite Women's Game you've seen: Taking my nieces to see UNH play Brown in the first ever National Championship game.

NAME: Bev Cameron :-)
AGE: 56
Hometown: Cooper City, FL
Women's Team you root for: Wayne State University
Why interested in Women's Hockey: My daughter has been playing since 1996 on both boys and girls teams in South Florida. She is currently a freshman at Wayne State - 2nd line defense.
Your Hockey Experience: Only as an observer and Hockey Mom. Growing up, my dad (from MA) use to talk about playing and what a great game it was, but watching it on TV was boring. Then the Florida Panthers came to town and my daughter started playing - I became a fan!!! Now, I photograph numerous games and tournaments and I have designed websites for local youth hockey programs as well as the NAHA website.
Other interests: Web design, sports photography, Florida Panthers, Florida Marlins, Florida State Seminoles
Favorite Women's Game you've seen: Only seen one game in person - 1999 - USA Women vs Providence (exhibition). Will be attending my daughter's first home games at the end of the month!

Women's Team I root for: Dartmouth
Why interested in w. hockey: was a Bruins fan in the 70's but became disillusioned w/professional (men's) sports as an adult and didn't watch for about 20 years. My love for hockey resurfaced when watching Team USA play Dartmouth women six yrs ago. Tremendously impressed with the heart and skill that D.C. team played with. Instantly became a die-hard fan and haven't missed a home game since. Part of a Friends of Hockey group who has informally "adopted" the team. dartmouth alum also.
Hockey experience: none except street hockey in the neighborhood as a teen.
Other interests: soccer, women's sports, bird-and wildlife watching, organic gardening, sustainable agriculture

NAME: Steve Temesy
AGE: 51
Hometown: Blenheim Ontario
Women's Team you root for: Manhattanville Valiants
Why interested in Women's Hockey: After my daughter started playing it was easy to give up coaching boys and start coaching girls.. although i'm still a fan of all hockey.. or a hockey NUT as some would say... i find following my daughter more enjoyable then any other form of the sport
and...i've had the pleasure of meeting Bob
Your Hockey Experience: Played for... hmm.. geeeesh... i cant even remember how long.. but lets say bout 40 years....
Favorite Women's Game you've seen: I'd have to say Coaching the 1999 Ontario Provincial Girls Bantam Championship game between Chatham and Cornwall .... Chatham took a penalty in a 2-1 game with less then a minute remaining... A Cornwall player took a high slot shot that hit both posts and happen to stay out of our net.

Women's Team you root for: Elmira College Soaring Eagles
Why interested in Women's Hockey: Hot, new event 3 years ago with Elmira as immediately the program started off losing 1 game all season and winning the national championship and then repeating the next season...hard not to follow and get involved with a program like that right in your back yard. I have also been a EC Men's team fan for 12 years now...
Your Hockey Experience: Played when i was 4 or 5 but got Juvenille Rheumatoid Arthritis and my parents never got me back into hockey again after that....
Other interests: Cross-country and Indoor Track...EC Men's Hockey...NY Mets, Chicago Bulls, Buffalo Bills, New York Rangers
Favorite Women's Game you've seen: 2002 National Championship game between Elmira and Manhattanville...EC won 2-1 in a thriller for all....also 2002 ECAC West championship game....Elmira beat Plattsburgh 3-2 in 2 OT's to take the 1st ever ECAC west championship
Derek, it is never too late to put on the skates and give it a go again. Don't make the mistake I made, and wait until you are 35 to start skating/playing again.

Not that this is a big deal or not, but I just wanted to FYI PolarBear about the Bowdoin-Middlebury series. Both programs have been varsity since the late 80's. Middlebury's run of 109 wins is rather recent, during the time where the ECAC reconfigured their leagues because of the expanding popularity of women's hockey at the college level. I coached Bowdoin from 88-92 and during that time we had great games with Middlebury. But we beat them more than they beat us. Bill Mandigo was the coach then as well. Great guy, runs a great program.
