With the NHL lock out, many NHLers are being sent to AHL affiliates. This will have an enormous affect on college alumni on AHL rosters, Lowell roster alone will be accepting 23 NHL players assigned to their roster.

With 23 players going to Lowell and 13 being assigned to Houston, this could affect the careers of two PRI alum Marc Cavosie and Jim Henkel. How many other college players in the AHL could have their careers put on hold while NHL players take their spots on AHL rosters

"The labor disruption in the NHL will have no discernible effect on the AHL, which will see team training camps open on Sept. 26, the preseason kick off on Oct. 1 and the 69th regular season in league history get underway on Oct. 13. The AHL has its own collective bargaining agreement with its players’ association -- the PHPA -- effective through 2007."

The Lockout has had huge effects on all league rosters... our best "youngsters" are in effect being locked out by what I call the move down effect.. the real problem will come in a few years when the NHL will become completely aged out because the promising talent will have hung them up during this lockout and we'll be watching only 19-22 year olds in the bigs, I love college hockey but, ... not at the NHL level. Hockey is not baseball where we have a gazillion youngsters from .. say the dominican..waiting in the wings for their shot ,the pool of talented players is not that BIG, both sides need to wake up and smell the .....ICE!

Most of the squeezed out AHLers will be lighting up the ECHL and making that league better. The best ECHLers will be promoted back to the AHL when the NHL comes back. No worries.

And what about this years college and junior crop of talent? Where do they go to get ready when the ahl talent is in the echl. If this lock out lasts a whole year this group will lose their chance. Because next years collegians will step into the slots that they should have enjoyed this year. One whole class deprived of their opportunity to live their dreams.
The whole thing s**ks.

the effect is on a whole lot more than "one whole class" look at the roster changes to see how many are affected and how many have defected to europe and how many have been forced to hang them up prematurely, the younger college alums still have a shot while the older who may have had their shot this year or next are in effect DONE!
