Do you smoke?
If so, what and how often?
Should smoking be banned in public places?
Multiple choice!
I've been smoking a few cigars lately and have been catching hell for it (It's bad for you, blah, blah, blah).
Anonymous, so let it be told!

Smoking in public places should be legal.
Individual proprietors should be able to go smoke-free.
Businesses that allow smoking should have adequate ventilation systems, that are regulated (kinda like now), and should be penalized if they don't adhere to those regulated ventilation requirements.
If I am hanging out with friends, whether the place is smoking or non-smoking won't make a difference for me, but if I am alone, or people don't care if the place is smoking or non-smoking, it might affect where I go.
I am a regular (although less than average: 1/2 pack a day at most) smoker. None of my friends smoke. One is an ex-smoker.

If people like a restaraunt but don't like that it allows smoking, the owner should be forced to change the restaurant to non-smoking. It doesn't matter that smoking is legal, if some people don't like it, it shouldn't be allowed.

I say the state of MN goes Dirty-free. That means anywhere in MN that Dirty has access to must adhere to a "Dirty" filter, where no MN citizen can access anything Dirty says, does, etc, and if they fail to do so, the violators shall serve a minimum 5 year sentence in max security prison. :D

At any rate, I've never been a smoker -- of anything -- and I happen to think that it should be left to the proprietor of the business. Let freedom ring.

Frankly, if cigs weren't legal, obviously I'd have a different opinion. But that will never happen. Follow the money.

A business should be able to make any rules it likes (obviously within any existing laws), if you don't like the rules there then don't eat there, you have plenty of other options.

Just another attempt to try and punish those who want to allow smoking on their premises. The regulations would be set extremely high keeping the big name chains in mind and totally ignoring the mom and pop places who can't afford to match the amount of money that the big names could put up for high tech vent systems, then said mom and pop places would be forced against their will to stop customers from doing something perfectly legal that they condone in their building.

Uh, these regulations are in place right now, and there are many mom-n-pop shops still around.

No, the rules should be changed so soccer moms can take their families out for a nice meal. It's not fair that well adjusted families aren't given free reign to eat where ever they like because people think they have the "right" to smoke just because it is "legal". Where does it say that just because something is legal, you should be allowed to do it?

You know, you're right Dirty. In fact, now that I think about it, I don't like people who wear cologne. I am going to petition my lawmakers to ban cologne in all public places. I mean, someone could have an allergic reaction and die. You're so smart Dirty. Thank you for showing me the light. :D

The owner of the establishment should have a right to decide if he/she wants to allow smoking in his or her establishment, it should not be dictated by the Government, just as the Boyscouts can choose who can or cannot join. If you don't like the terms you do not buy from them, their competition gets the money, and maybe somewhere down the line it will hurt them enough where they decide they may want to change, that is the way a free market works.

No, people shouldn't be allowed to make decisions for themselves when it comes to a health hazard like smoking. People shouldn't be allowed to smoke in restaurants. People who don't smoke know better than people who do smoke and therefore they are more important. Their desire to force their ideas on smokers is more important than the smokers right to do something that is perfectly leagal. Because of this smoking should be banned in public and everywhere else for that matter.

smoking sucks, but everyone does it. I am sort of used to the smell by now, although it probably is killing me slowly, I stopped caring about it in public places a while ago. My lungs will in all likelyhood recover.
