I know that Buffalo State is getting a few from an Erie, PA team - single A and Chatham is getting a good lot from all over including California in hopes to be more competitive

from the Erie Lady Lions, I think the others are still thinking about Buffalo State, unless thats changed in the last couple days. As far as Chatham- that's funny!! Makes perfect sense- recruit out of California and ignore all the talent close to them- Oh on second thought, makes sense, the Cali girls can't know how bad they really are!!
I'd really like to see Chatham do better, but it seems like they have no sense of direction right now......

ohio hockey dad-

who are they players from erie? and hey cali might not have the greatest of players, but im sure that they are better then ERIE.. come on now.. its apparent that Chatham is trying to get girls from all over, cause the ones close by aren't doing much for them now, so why not look across the state for some players? you obviously don't have any idea what you are talking about.

there must be a 'master plan' in place at Chatham. That would involve what, I'm not sure. I wasn't talking about the Erie girls anyway-although many of them would be a huge upgrade from what they have now! Are the Cal Selects better than most the Erie players? Sure, for the most part. Has Erie placed lots of girls in college-yes.. FYI..the couple that are on Chatham's team now came off the Erie developmental team-not the travel team.
I was mainly talking about the experiences the girls I know have had in dealing with Chatham- when you can't get the AD to email you back, or the coach to send a questionare to you when you have an interest in the school and play for the most successful assn in the region, what does that tell you?? Obviously, that they must have another plan, so I quess I don't know what I'm talking about....
Ashley Wehnes is the one Erie girl going to Buffalo State, and they are working on the goalie (very good- Lake Placid caliber). The other girl is way up in the air now, so I'll leave her out of it..

OhioHockeyDad-

Chathams going through a rebuilding phase. Theyve recently got a large grant for their athletic teams and a 5 million dollar athletic facility is in the works, i believe to be completed this upcomming season or next. You mentioned having trouble, and i do not doubt it because of coaching changes and such. Theyve brought in a talented one who seems to be in for the long run. As far as i know, they're bringing in lots of recruits and in the near future are going to be revaluating their entire roster to a decent d3 caliber. And as for attracting players from the area, they do not have much to offer. Its a small school with barely 500 students, all girls of which i might add. Its ice rink is also located about 20 min. off campus which is another negative. And with a $30,000 yearly tuition, im not sure it would be worth it.

I know 2 girls that wanted to go there (Ohio Flames), and actually had a visit arranged through the addmissions office (same weekend they had home games) and could not get so much as a 'screw you' from the athletic department!! Needless to say ( as these girls ARE being recruited by some east coast schools also), they cancelled their visit!! The girls made the effort, wanted to be sold on the school, be less than 5-13 hours away from home when they go to school, money was no issue, and the school made zero effort!! I don't get it.....
Also, I was speaking with a coach this week from the PAHL (the Pittsburgh girls league) and he told me there is a standing offer to ALL their seniors for 1/2 off tuition at Chatham. Don't get me wrong, there are some good players in Pitt, but the best ones leave long before their senior year, so this doesn't sound like a strong rebuilding effort!!
As I said before, I would love nothing better than Chatham to pull it together, we need D3 teams in this region (Michigan and Ohio have always been lacking too), but with the experiences that these girls had this year, I still don't see it. (I mean Midam and Michigan when I say the region, not just NW PA)
I hope they do have a big recruiting class, 12 players doesn't cut it (if they have that left after graduation).
BTW, I think that they have a lot to offer- the cross-enrollment with the other Pitt schools, the Shadyside area, the small class size, etc.

Do you think that Chatham being an all womens college has anything to do with recruiting problems?

I hope Chatham does have a team next season. I would hate to see the ECAC West lose an auto bid. ;)

ohiohockeydad..

Just who from the Ohio Flames was looking at Chatham? Because I can tell you, they are not from the U-19 team, so who are you talking about here???So, whoever you are getting your info about regarding the Flames, is way off.. so, would you clarify for me, just who you are talking about, and which girls did the East Coast schools blow off? Im curious to hear who they are.

I'm sure it does, that would be appealling to a smaller group of girls, so it can't help..

yukalaylie

Read my post again- it didn't say they blew off the east coast schools- I said that the east coast schools were making an effort, and Chatham wasn't. And. I never said they were U-19 Flames- it has already been noted on this board that the Flames seniors are all signed already. This leaves them with 2 or 3 juniors, same as the 16U team. It's not hard to figure out, both teams hand their promotion brochures out everywhere they go.
Being underclassmen, I'll leave names out the public forum- email me and I'd be happy to give you names, if you are that interested.

I know, as I am currently looking for schools to continue my hockey career, that i take Chatham's policy's of all girls and small enrollment as a minus, but that is just my preference.

id cry if the ECAC west lost the auto-bid...Not only would that mean that Elmira and Plattsburgh both couldnt be in the tournament but also those 2 would have to compete with Stevens Point, Superior, and River Falls for one lone spot and the likelyhood as that neither of the 5 teams would meet each other head to head during the regular season leaving it up to a committee decision and all their formulas. It would be wrong if those 5 teams which are easily 5 of the best teams in the country as they are certainly all in the top 10 along with Bowdoin, Middlebury, RPI, Gustavus Adolphus, St. Thomas...etc...

I know thats just the way things go and ive preached that to all the people from the NCHA that have whined about the Pool B selection process but come on...when 5 of your best teams are competiting for 1 spot and they arent even playing each other head to head? somethings wrong and you need to change your system.
