The Minor Hockey Association of Calgary has announced that its board of directors are taking forward a motion to their AGM to take 4th stage hitting out of all levels of hockey from beginner to midget in their community program. Full contact hockey to remain only in the Bantam and Midget AA and AAA divisions. This bold step arises from discussions with both the Calgary Board of Directors and the Edmonton Minor Board of Directors. This move could have a far reaching impact on how the game is played throughout Canada. I raise this issue here because there will be a great many comparisons drawn between the game as played by female players and the one played (both male and female) in the minor levels.
