does anyone know who the team has chosen for their captains for next year? I know they usually let everyone know during the end of the year banquet, but nothing was mentioned.

It's Alternate Captain. I know that's nitpicking, but this is a slow news day.

I don't think anyone really stands out to be captains considering most members that are left are all freshmen. But I'll give it a shot anyway.
C: Steph Jones
A: Lindsay Hansen
A: Rebecca Paul or Lindsey Caleo
Anyone else's thoughts?

C--Jones
A--Paul
A--Hansen
A--Garland

As Kazoo pointed out there aren't many upperclassmen to choose from making this a tough decision.
We are all in agreement that Jones gets the C and Hansen one of the A's. With Paul, will her walk on status from NU count against her? If not then she gets the other, if so Garland or Caleo get it. Chief, do you think they'll name three A's? Last year they went with two.

Cloud 9, You are correct. I checked the archives and traditionally they only have 2 alternates.
I would guess they would continue with only 2 alternates.
Lots of speculation here on who should be captains. I agree that this will be a tough decision for the coaches as there isn't alot of upperclassmen, however selecting the right individuals is more about leadership, commitment and on-ice presence, not neccesarily tenure. With so many new freshmen again, UNH needs to set the right examples. I am sure that most coaches are going through this thought process right now. I don't know what the urgency is as I haven't seen any other teams posting their new selections.
I see some names posted...it would be interesting to hear why these names stand out. As well I would be interested to hear about the selections for other teams as well.

I was talking to someone from the team on Thursday and she said that the captains had not been chosen yet. Just thought I would let everyone know.

I don't think it's going to be that tough a decision on who should be the Captian. Stephanie Jones is going to be the only Sr. on the team this season,So why not give it to her? If it was up to me I would give her the job.
If I had to pick two it would be Lindsay Hansen and Rebecca Paul as the Alternate Captain's. Both girls had a great season but I wonder how the two are off the ice and in practice.
It's going to be a tough decision for the team to pick this year because it seemed to me that just about the entire team took on some sort of leadership roll in one game or another. I'm sure who ever gets picked will have the repect of her teammates and the fans. :)

Although Jones may deserve to be captain for a number of reasons there may be those who believe Jones received it only because she is the sole senior and that does not build leadership. Perhaps McCloskey will take a page from the NHL where the Minnesota Wild, Buffalo Sabres, Washington Capitols, Columbus Blue Jackets and San Jose Sharks all used rotating captains for some or all of this season. Not naming the captain as quickly as in the past does leave some doubt about McCloskey's confidence in Jones and a rotation would give him an opportunity to build the leadership of underclassmen and not leave Jones out altogether.

What happend to Randi MacMaster who should be a senior next year?? I know she was academically ineligible this season but will she be back next year? If so will she still have 2 yrs of eligibility left because she sat out this year or does she only have one more year? She does have experience as a team captain; she was wore the 'C' for the 2001 Syracuse Stars National Championship team. Interestingly Lindsey Hansen was also captain of Syracuse's national championship team in 2002. I would think MacMaster's academic problems would keep her from a leadership position but Hansen is a great candidate for the 'A' this year.

Rotating captains wouldn't be such a bad idea :) like I said before just about the entire team took on some sort of leadership roll in one game or another. I agree in that just because she is the sole senior does not mean leadership comes from the seniors. My understanding is the team votes on the captains and not the coach.Don't get me wrong,Brian McCloskey is a great coach and I'm a 100% sure he will lead this group to the NCAA Championship and win it maybe this year or before the next couple seasons are over. Also I have read who the men will be playing next season and I was wondering if anyone has seen the women's schedule for 2004-05 yet?

I don't think that college teams can rotate captains. I think it would take too much time getting jerseys ready and knowing UNH's luck with getting their jerseys in a timely manner, I think it would be a lost cause. (women two years ago and men this past year)

If they were really concerned with rotating captains, I'm sure they wouldn't have trouble sewing on and removing the A/C's from the jerseys each week..
I don't see it happening, but if it didn't it wouldn't be because of the jersey situation I can't imagine

Sorry, I didn't specify. I don't think it would be solely the jerseys. I actually think that they wouldn't rotate captains because the players choose the captains and coach appointing new ones throughout the season would kill team morale, and I just don't see coach Mac doing that.

For the record, in 02-03, Harvard had four captains. All four wore C's on their jerseys, but certain captain responsibilities rotated between two each game. So that can be done.

Providence also had 4 players rotate as captains Deraney's first season 99-00. Katherine Cahill, Jen Bill, Alain Frankiewicz and Kerstin Matthews. Though by year end I believe Bill and Matthews seemed to have the C's .

Anyone know if Mrs. Erin Whitten is still pursuing a possible shot at Team USA for the 2006 Olympics? I remember reading at one point she was still considering it as she realized it may be her last shot at a gold medal.
