The only plausible explanation is that the player - without help from the DU players - entered the crease on his own momentum and caused the puck to cross the goal line while it was in possession of the goalie. If he had been pushed, shoved or forced in to the crease, the goal would have counted. FYI - a player can follow the puck in to the crease but he can not precede the puck in to the crease.

Tough call but no replays I saw showed the DU boys pushing the UMD lad in to the crease. Probably a good call.

I'll be interested in hearing the official reason the goal was disallowed. I don't think Hache blew the whistle and nothing in the replay seemed to suggest it shouldn't have been a goal.

Anyway, in my mind the biggest play in the game was when Burkhoel made a nice stop on Lessard on a breakaway in the second period. If Lessard had buried the hat trick, it would have made it 4-1 and the result might have been a little different.

This wasn't the case on this play. Burkhoel never had control. When the puck crossed the goal line, no player was touching it. It went to the goalie's right.

The UMD player sliding into Berkhoel blocked Hache, and he made the call right away. That will happen 99 times out of 100.

Sure. But the replay official saw what actually happened. Absent a whistle, which I doubt was blown because of the timing, the replay official had the opportunity to correct the call.

....it would seem the key issue is...did the goalie have possession of puck....I'm not sure he ever had his glove(s) on it( you'd have to se the earliest part of replay)....it seemed to be hanging on his chest...as UMD player legally follows "a loose"puck into crease. Puck bounced off UMD thigh and went into net to the left side as goalie got pushed into middle of the net...I think the puck preceeded the golaie into net..and definitely by a different path. It wasn't intentionally kicked...and never seemed controlled by goalie...so who cares if UMD guy was pushed or intentionally proceeded into net? Anybody?......tell Adam Wogon...I'm nonplussed by the call. k

Yeah, they weren't pushing him, they were pulling him. Most people don't crash the net 'on purpose' with their feet off the ground. It was a joke that no penalty was called regardless. Either way, Berkhoel never had the puck and it when into the net. I can understand the call being missed at ice level, not in the booth. Strange they didn't fix that call in the booth. Either way, Denver kicked UMD's butt in the last two periods....

.....the ref still has to BLOW the whistle....to stop play if he can no longer see the puck. He has to get the whistle to his mouth and blow it!!! The ONLY reasonable explanation might be goalie had his glove(s) on puck on his chest....but I don't remember seeing that at beginning of re-play. So what is the explanation? kash

Well, if DU can win it all now, it will only confirm what we all have suspected for ages... the WCHA is the one, true college hockey league :)

anyways... good job to Denver. gold pan will be CC's again next year!!!

Kind of makes me wonder what CC could have done had they gotten the nod.

My first instincts say not much, for this Denver team looks totally different. A ton of heart behind that bench.
