Up the Bhoys! :D
Up the Bhoys! :D
Gotta love Tommo's goal. Beautiful. :) I think Klos appreciated it too... :p
What do you mean, only? Was there anything (e.g. obvious goal-scoring opportunity) that would have merited more than a caution?
The report seems to indicate he deliberately handled it during a chance.
Here's the line from the match report:
"Olivier Bernard's long ball over the top sent Bellamy clear and the Welshman's lob was charged down by goalkeeper Sorensen's left hand, yards outside the box.
Despite spotting the infringement and awarding a free-kick, referee Mike Riley chose to issue a booking rather than a red card, much to the Newcastle players' anger, and Sorensen palmed away Robert's set-piece effort."

Liverpool loses 1-0 with a goal disallowed that was called offsides, when it was blatantly onsides. Bad decision.
Worse yet, Hyypia is hurt, he got elbowed in the face and he might have a broken nose.

Thanks for the welcome Bob Gray and Don King. I've been a long-time lurker and occasional contributor to the boards. I agree that it's almost impossible to accurately rate the newly promoted sides at this point. Norwich have only got two points, but three of their games have been against ManU, Newcastle, and Arsenal, so it may not be indicative of their quality. Whatever happens, i'll enjoy the season. Good luck to you!

Breaking news out of England
Sir Bobby Robson has been fired as coach of Newcastle United, only 4 matches into the Primership season. Here's the link:
SkySports - Robson leaves magpies (http://skysports.planetfootball.com/list.asp?hlid=222819&CPID=8&CLID=4&lid=&title=Robson+leaves+Magpies)
Shocking news to me. Newcatle's results have been: Draw away to M'Boro, Loss home to Tottenham, Draw home to Norwich, and Loss away to Villa. It's so early I just don't understand this move. According to the article he was already told his contract would not be renewed after this season, but he didn't even last that long. A couple of possible other reasons (other than the results), Shearer wasn't in the starting lineup this weekend and Dyer has had refused to play against M'Boro.

Wow, that is big news (though not deserving of a separate thread :D ). Robson was on thin ice, but I figured they'd give him a bit more time and find a way of gracefully having him exit when it was time.
And today ManU drops more points, with a 0-0 draw with Everton. That leaves the Red Devils 7 points back of both Arsenal and Chelski already! I know ManU fans are waiting for Rio, RvN, etc. to return, but this has still got to be very troubling. Of course to me it is a definite source of pleasure.

Not necessarily troubling, as with no Saha, no Ruud, no Rio and an injured Keane, this is certainly not the top 11.

Still though, only 5 of 12 points so far and dropping points against two bottom teams already (Blackburn and Everton)? I just don't see Chelski or Arsenal dropping a lot of points this season, so although titles certainly aren't won during this part of the season, if ManU gets much deeper in the hole, they may very well look back at this start and realize how damaging it is to their title aspirations.
And actually Saha played today against Everton. The other players coming back will certainly help. On the other hand, Arsenal still have no Campbell or Vieira and now have just added the Spanish international midfielder Angulo from Valencia, who is supposed to be a real good, hard-nosed midfielder. Saw him in the Super Cup game with Porto and he looks very good, though at 27, he's a bit older than Wenger usually buys.

Perhaps Everton and Manchester United should have borrowed a goal or two from Fulham and Portsmouth. It's 3-2 Portsmouth, and the 1st half isn't over yet! Fulham has crawled their way back in after being 3-0 down.

There have been *several* of these types of games already this season. I dunno if it's the new ball, or a lack of defense, or what, but so far this season it's like every team in the league is being coached by Kevin Keegan. :D

Hey wait... :-)
I've read today that Rooney to the Scum is a done deal, as he's already taken a physical at ManU(re)'s Carrington training ground. The price is apparently 25 million pounds.

Until I read further, you had me worried that Tottenham somehow swooped for Rooney, since we all know that Tottenham are the true Scum.
It will be interesting to see what Rooney does at ManU. I wonder if Sir Bobby's axing impacted Newcastle's bid at all. One good thing out of this is that ManU likely won't have funds to bolster the defense or midfield for the rest of the season. I read somewhere that ManU is paying half the Rooney fee from next year's transfer kitty.

Spurs are kind of like the EPL's version of the Chicago Bears to me. Nobody really likes them, but they're so consistently out of it that you can't help but pity them a little.

Pity them? Pity the Scum? Surely you jest! No self-respecting Arsenal fan could ever have pity for those pretenders on the wrong end of the Seven Sisters Road! But you are correct on the matter of them being consistently out of it!
