It sure was. Is it just me or were there a ton of phenomenal goals last week?

It's hard to not like the way Alan Smith plays. A bit like the hard-nosed play of Alan Shearer. Of course if he plays very aggressively against your team, you aren't going to be so pleased with him. All in all a good pickup for ManU. If they didn't have him to score goals right now, they'd be in trouble and would probably have to splash some cash in the transfer market.

Nice CL Group draw for Arsenal, with Panathaniokos, PSV Eindhoven, and Rosenburg. There's no reason Arsenal should struggle to get out of that group. ManU got an easy group also. Chelski and their manager face off with his former team Porto. Liverpool could have a challenge getting out of their group, with Deportivo and Monaco. And Celtic will have a major challenge advancing, with Barcelona and AC Milan.

Why do the Rags get such an easy draw every year?

If Liverpool plays to the best of their ability I think they can get out of their group. ManU's group is a joke. No team that has to go through CL qualifying deserves a draw that good. Only automatic bid teams deserve those kinds of draws.
SAF is a hoor.
I don't know who he's sleeping with to get these, but these draws are always ridiculously easy for ManU.
Group C and Group F look rough. I honestly have no idea who will come out of those groups.

Why do the Rags get such an easy draw every year?Because they are paying United back for being saddled with Diego Forlan and Seba Veron for 3 and 2 seasons a piece.

Off to work for a little bit, but I'll put up predictions when I get back.

ManU does usually get very easy draws. With all the problems they face this year though, they may need the easy draw more than ever.

Could be interesting with CKSA Moscow and Chelsea...UEFA is investigating to see if Roman Abramovich has a controlling interest in both. if he does, one will be forced out of the draw.
I wonder how that would work, and while I doubt anything comes of this, I wonder how it would be decided which club would take the place of the one removed.

I have no idea how the being cup-tied works. Is Juninho available for the Celtic European matches?
BTW- Cruel fate for Celtic, drawn with Barcelona. I'm betting Larsson definately scores against them.

I'm thinking Celtic will finish third in their group and move down to the UEFA Cup tournament. Juninho may not be available because he missed the first registration. He wouldn't be cup-tied because Middlesborough wasn't in either CL or UC.
Rosenborg could do all right, but I'm predicting the same for them.

Basically, if you have played for a team in a certain kind of competition, such as European, or domestic cup, then you can't appear for another team in that same type of competition that same season. I would think Juninho would be available, as I don't think Middlesborough have played any European games.

Nothing is going to come of it. It will be too difficult to prove. Its well known that CSKA is acting like a feeder club for Chelsea though. CSKA broke all sorts of transfer records for Eastern European football this offseason, and most of those players have clauses in their contracts that give Chelsea the first option on bidding in the transfer market. There is some sort of gentleman's agreement there between the two clubs, but Abramovich doesn't have to outright control the club to exert influence. He's one of the most powerful people in Russia after all. And that's probably all they are going to find.

Just came across this:
"In the run up to kick off last Sunday, Arsenal Vice-Chairman David Dein was presented with two cheques totalling £50,000 by the FA Premier League for the Club and its supporters for finishing top of the 2003/2004 Fair Play Tables.
Prize money of £30,000 has been awarded to the Club for the team's sporting behaviour last term and the other £20,000 has been given for 'behaviour of the public' to the Arsenal supporters."
Nice to see that the FA is finally recognizing the fine conduct of Arsenal and its supporters!

Remember a couple years ago when ManU got drawn against Real Madrid in the quarterfinals and Ferguson had the BALDFACED AUDACITY to actually COMPLAIN that Utd always get the tough draws, and suggest that there was a UEFA conspiracy against them?
Let me just reiterate how much I hate ManU.
On the other hand, maybe Nathan's right: perhaps they've paid their debt through Veron and Forlan. :)
