I think Mourinho's spirit sapping defensive style would work better at Liverpool than at Chelsea. The owner at Chelsea doesn't strike me as the type to take kindly to Mourinho's coaching style.

You know, it's strange. Even as Porto was crowned club kings of Europe, we never saw our favorite Alan Alda look-alike smile, or show any kind of happiness in that interview after the match.

-On a slightly related note, I've been thinking...my prayers for Ranieri may be better heard if I apologize for all City fans for singing 'Shaddap You Face' at him when Chelski came to Eastlands.

-Nate, most City fans feel the same way about Leeds. It's always nice to see them lose, but beating even Sheffield Wednesday, nevermind the Rags, is nicer than a win over Leeds, especially now that Smith's gone.

-Bob, I imagine Rag fans will warm to Smith. To me, it seems like he'd compliment Roy Keane well, and vice versa. They both are Todd Bertuzzi-suck.

-Rumor has it Atletico Madrid will come to Manchester for City's lone preseason home fixture.

Oh I thought that was me slamming my fist in anger knowing Man U should've beat those diving fools in the round of 16 (Don't any of you put a Timmy Howard picture in response to that.).

Maybe, if it's about him being a Metroscum that's fine (I'm a DC United fan), but if it involves Man U, no.

Was reading a mini biopic of Gerard Houllier today on ESPN Soccernet and found out some things I didn't know...it appears that, despite his much maligned past few years at the Kop, he knows football as well as any...probably had as big a hand as anyone in France's 1998 and 2000 trophy years.

And it's bloody hilarious, better than most of the drivel I hear. Way better than the stuff LFC fans come up with - don't even mention the "Stevie G" song.

Congratulations Crystal Palace--back in the Premiership after winning 1-0 over West Ham.

I'm looking forward to seeing the highlights. The Hammers had 2 equalisers negated by offside flags, and soccernet.com simply described the 92nd minute this way:

92 mins: Mass brawl!!

In any case, Palace is up.

This is nice. Two teams I like (I'm pretty indifferent about West Brom) get promoted. Best of luck to Palace and the Canaries when they aren't playing City. Hope their stay is a long one. Maybe they can get Pompey out of our hair?

Crystal Palace: The Yo-Yo Was Just "Sleeping" In Division One For A While.

I'd take even money that Palace go straight back down.

As an aside, the promotees from the Nationwide don't look very tough, do they? The Canaries, The Baggies and a team named Crystal Palace.

This seems like one of the worst groups of promotees in a while. But, then I'm still surprised that Bolton Wanderers have lasted 3 years. So maybe one of these 3 has it in them to stay up for a while. Besides, I think that as the offseason goes on we are going to learn a lot more about Manchester City's financial woes and they could become very Leeds-like quickly.

Agreed. This group has three-up, three-down written all over it. How does Norwich City stay in the top 17 of this league with their personnel? We've already figured out from about three tries that Darren Huckerby doesn't get it done in the Premiership. We already know that West Brom's style doesn't work in the Premiership from two years ago, and Crystal Palace? I'll set the over/under on points they get this season at 24.

At least there'll be another London Derby, bringing the number of London clubs back up to 5, I believe.

There's 5 London clubs in the Premiership already. Arsenal, Chelski, The Scum (Spurs), Charlton, and Fulham come to mind.

Forgot about Fulham. Make that six, then.

It seems 2nd place in the EPL and reaching the semifinals of the Champions League just not good enough for Chelsea. Finally, the speculation is over, and Rainieri is indeed dismissed.

Finally Claudio is gone. The way Chelski went about it was dastardly, but I guess that's as moral as the Russian can act.

At least with more turmoil at Chelski, it'll take them awhile longer to get a settled side, meaning they aren't likely to win the title next year. As Bobby McMahon noted last night on FSW, new managers rarely win titles in their first year, Kenny Daglaish with Liverpool in the 80s being the last one, and those Liverpool squads could have won the title with me at the helm.

Silly season news:
ManU acquiring Oliver Khan according to German news reports
Ronaldo tired of being called fat :D
