Startling news out of Manchester. The police arrested a bunch of terrorists that had planned to suicide bomb Old Trafford on Saturday. The article I have is from the Mirror in the UK but my Red Devil friends on bigsoccer.com have confirmed the story through some other UK news outlets.
edit: can't get the f-ing link to work
For a club and it's fans that has Munich and Hillsborough it doesn't deserve a cowardly attack like that.

No club or person deserves an attack like this.
I saw that story also on a Yahoo News Listing. What can you say about such lunacy? But with the Muslim world either tacitly or implicitly accepting these types of actions on a regular basis, this is the kind of thing that's going to be attempted and I'm sure sooner or later they'll succeed. Sad, but true. Props to the Brits for sniffing this out and not turning tail the way the Spanish have.

Maybe it was a liverpool fan who wanted a bigger bomb then Diouf at old trafford;)...
all kidding aside that is really *** up...can't we just kill everyone in the muslim world?

I don't think I need to further proclaim my loyalties as pertaining to the EPL, but while I hate all things Manchester United, this upsets me. Like Jim was pointing out, amidst it's current (relative...thanks, Porto) glory, it does have a checkered past. If any of City's squads all went down in a plane crash, I'd be absolutely devastated. We were crushed when Foe died, but that's nothing when compared to losing your entire team. Furthermore, Old Trafford's already been bombed once (WWII), and that's more than any club deserves to undergo. Thankfully, Manchester police were on the ball with this.
On a lighter note, I don't know if I'd like my club being United's landlord again. :)
I can't wait to see what Blair has to say about this. His dumber self, Bush, will probably sit this one out, as he can't even spell 'soccer', unless al Qaeda assumes responsibility. Maybe this is what they meant by 'attacking America's foreign interests'. As much as it irritates me to admit this, Old Trafford is to England what Yankee Stadium is to the United States.

Hold the phone City fans. The Times of London reports that Old Trafford, City of Manchester Stadium, and a major shopping center were all part of the plot!

"Hold the phone, City fans"? Excuse me? We're not ripping you about this; don't take the low road.
I definitely understand why CoMStad was targeted as well, as it would also be of major importance to people and there'd be a big loss of life. Still, these terrorists aren't stupid. They know bombing Old Trafford would make a bigger statement than doing the same at City of Manchester.
To conclude this post, let me just say this: I blame Millwall.

While I too have read articles comparing Man City to Leeds, I have also seen articles that claim Man City will be the next Chelski. :)
