The finalist have been selected, and now it is your turn to decide who should win the Hobey Baker Award. The nominees are:
Yann Danis
Brown University - Senior - Goalie
Saint Jerome, Quebec
Danis was only the second player in ECAC history to be honored as Player of the Year and receive the Ken Dryden Award as the leagues best netminder in the same season. Along with these honors he was also voted to the ECAC 1st Team and named to the 1st Team All-Ivy League. Danis has had a tremendous career at Brown with 43 career wins, which ties the school career mark set by Kevin McCabe 1977. He holds ECAC records for season save percentage record of (.948) and career shut out (13).Danis set the Brown career save percentage record, .930, which is second to Ken Dryden best in NCAA history and Danis also set the Brown career record goals against average 2.20. His college stats save percentage of .942 ranks second in the nation and his goals against average of 1.81 in 55 games ranks third in the nation. Danis helped Brown win its first Ivy championship since 1995. Danis recently signed a two year deal with the Montreal Canadiens.
Junior Lessard
University of Minnesota Duluth - Senior - Forward
St. Joseph deBeauce, Quebec
Lessard, the Bulldogs’ alternate captain, has become the seventh Bulldog to be named a Hobey Baker finalist. Lessard came away with top honors this year at the WCHA banquet by securing a spot on the All-WCHA 1st Team also taking the illustrious honor of WCHA Player of the year for 2003-04. Lessard helped the Bulldogs advance to the Frozen Four for the first time in 11 years. He was rewarded for his efforts by being named to the All-Regional Tournament Team. He leads the nation with 61 points and in goals with 30. He was the WCHA co-scoring leader with 19 goals and 20 assists in league play. The last Bulldog to accomplish this was Hobey Baker Award winner Chris Marinucci. He also ranks tied for second in the NCAA in power play goals with 12. Lessard ranks fourth in the NCAA in points per game at 1.46. His prolific goal scoring has helped secure UMD to its highest (second) and the best regular season finish (23-10-4) in 11 years. Not withstanding his scoring ability, he has a +21 plus-minus on the season. Pursuing a degree in English.
Zach Parise
University of North Dakota - Sophomore - Forward
Faribault, Minn.
Parise is the only returning Hobey Baker finalist in this years crop of outstanding players. He was named All-WCHA 1st Team and the All-WCHA Academic Team. He ranks third in the NCAA in total points with 55, second with an average of 1.49 points per game, and third in assists with 32. He currently ranks 52nd on UND’s all-time scoring list averaging.1.49 points per game in his 76 game career. Parise took time off this season to compete on Team USA in the 2004 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships, where he was named the Tournament MVP after leading the tournament in scoring. His brother Jordan is his teammate as a freshman goaltender for the Sioux. He is enrolled in Pre-Business. Parise was drafted 17th overall last year by the New Jersey Devils and on March 29 he signed a contract with the Devils. Parise’s father, J.P, played for 13 seasons in the NHL.
