I don't know if anyone watched the Colorado-Vancouver game, but about half way through the third Todd Bertuzzi grabbed Harvard alumn Steve Moore from behind, knocked him out with a suckerpunch, and then drove his head face first into the ice. Moore was bleeding profusely and taken off of the ice on a stretcher with a neck brace, eyes open, with his arms strapped to his sides. Thoughts and prayers with Moore, his family, and the Avalanche organization. As for Bertuzzi, he ought to be suspended for a real long time.
Terrible. Think they're bitter about the Naslund hit?
Totally unacceptable from Bertuzzi. There's a certain amount of vigilante justice in hockey, but this is way overboard.
Here's the article from ESPN. It says he was "suspended almost immediately": http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=1754540
I didn't see it, but often when someone gets their head cut, it's a lot of blood for a tiny cut. Not sure if that was the case with Moore.
I would've paid to see Granato jump Crawford, though.

Total cheapshot and an attempt at payback that went way too far. Bertuzzi should be burned at the stake.

My thoughts and prayers are with Moore. Bertuzzi is such an idiot. The hit Moore gave Naslund 3 weeks ago was perfectly clean, Naslund got a concussion, but sometimes that just happens. Moore had already fought Matt Cooke earlier in the game and paid his dues.
Bertuzzi should not play again this season, playoffs included.

News on Moore is he's got a fractured neck, a concussion, and several severe facial lacerations and abrasions. He's still in Vancouver right now but will be moved to a Head trauma rehab center in Denver as soon as possible...Vancouver police are investigating to press charges against Bertuzzi

I think I speak for all Cornell fans when I say that, sure, we still hate Harvard, but nobody deserved what happened to Steve Moore, and we all hope for his speedy recovery and return to the game.

I can't help but think about how Dominic Moore wrote about how great it was to play with his brothers at Harvard in last year's ECAC championship programme. This has obviously got to be a tough time for the whole Moore family, and they're in my prayers.

Add my best wishes and condolences to Steve, his family and friends
The awful irony of the whole situation is that Steve was an individual who made it to the NHL largely on the dint of effort and discipline. He was not a great natural talent in terms of professional hockey, and that was a large part of what led to this incident. The whole tone of the the Canuck's outrage over his check on Marcus Naslund was that it was a fringe player hurting an NHL star.
As much as Bertuzzi deserves every bit of unpeasantness possible for his actions, Marc Crawford has to be held accountable as well. He more than anyone is responsible for the events which led up to the incident last evening. Crawford fanned the flames and set the table for what happened.

Crawford was less than impressive last night. The entire tone of the game seemed premeditated and as Steve Moore laid face down on the ice with a pool of blood surrounding him, the TV camera panned to the Canucks bench, where Mark Crawford was caught on tape smirking. Phil Sauve was physically restraining Tony Granato and Rick Tocchet, who were irate, screaming obscenities at Crawford's general direction.

My heartfelt prayers goes out to Steve Moore and his 2 brothers Mark and Dominic who played with him at Harvard and the rest of his family. Steve was a true leader his senior year. He may not have been a real super star but he always gave it a 110% on the ice and this will show in his determination to make a full recovery. As for Bertalluzzi he should be banished from the NHL. As for Marc Crawford he should be penalizes for not controlling one of his players from doing what he did! This kind of conduct should never be instilled in any player period and should never be allowed to happen! The NHL did the right thing in suspending him immediately until further revue.

I know that the NHL doesn't want to hear it, but when a player is jumped from behind and beat to the extent that Moore was beaten, the player causing such injuries in guilty of assault and should be arrested and tried for that crime.
There is no place in hockey at any level for the kind of actions that took place last night.
Assault charges have been brought before for a players actions in a hockey game and they should be brought again this time.
This was not standing up for a teammate it was not payback.
Bertuzzi should have faced Moore and challeged him if it were payback, lord knows he is big enough without jumping a guy when he is not looking.
My thoughts and prayers are with The Moore family
As for Bertuzzi...

Get well soon Steve!
I'm sure Bertuzzi will get what he deserves once his suspension is over (Peter Worrell, I'm looking at you).

I only met Steve Moore once when I was in school with him, it was when he walked me out onto the ice for one of those stupid shoot-the-puck in a puck-sized hole contests. What I remember most about that experience was how kind and polite he was throughout. Totally encouraging of me despite how awful I performed.
That this happened to him of all people is revolting. Get well soon, Stevie.

I want to add to the wishes of others for a speedy recovery of Stevie.
I also had the opportunity to become well-acquainted with both Dominic and Steve. Really, two very stand-up guys with a tireless work ethic. I remember how excited the Harvard Hockey family was upon hearing that Steve had broke into the Avs rotation. I can't express how completely appalled and disgusted I am after hearing of this incident.
If this happened anywhere else, the guy would've been arrested on the spot. Disgusting.
Best wishes to the Moore family and, Steve, we hope to see you back on the ice soon!

Prognosis on Moore seems fairly positive. The vertabrae in his neck were cracked, but not displaced, so I think it is mainly a case of immobilization to give them a chance to heal.
