What's with USCHO always shutting down our thread! SHEESH!
Apparently we have chatty fans...
Anyways, as for this two Derek Smith's situation, I think it will be fun for next year! Too bad the new Smith is a defenseman, or else we could have had the Smith Squared Line! Just think of the marketing opportunities....
Lets just hope that they don't give him Kremmers #16 - that will DEFINITLY throw off all the people in the press box!

Congrats to Kory Scoran for the Blueliner of the week award (even if its Weston who awards it). He deserved it. Let's go Lakers get some points this weekend.

Alright! Nine-thirty (Central Time) on Friday and I'm leaving work to head to BR for the games! Doesn't get better than a road trip to see the Lakers. Myself and (the always colorful :D ) NMU DOC will be in section "I" row "7" if any other posters are making the trip and want to say hello.
Let's Go Lakers!!!!!!!!

Sounds as if the Lakers lost a game they should have won.Got to bounce back tomorrow and put this lost behind them.Just another night where they could not score and that is still what is keeping this team from going anywhere.Lakers allowed too many shots in the third.

Somebody please explain to me whatever happened to this once proud championship caliber program. What lead to the demise of Lake State Hockey?

One Word: BOREK.
pmcdonald
As stated, Scott Borek.
Basically the program went steadily downhill when Jeff Jackson left LSSU and Scott Borek took over as coach. Borek is a nice guy, but was out of his element as head coach at LSSU. The program is just now begining to show signs of starting to turn things around, even though Borek has been gone for a couple of seasons now. Hey, they fell a long way.
Its tough to keep a good quality coach at a small school like LSSU for an extended time. Bigger opportunities always call.
I look for more noticeable improvement in the W-L record next season. Two seasons from now should give us a good idea of how their journey back to being one of the better programs is progressing.

WOO-WOO!!!!!!
Hey, I'll take a road split.
Listening to the Internet broadcast, it sounded like Bill C is getting really frustrated with two things: the Laker powerplay, and the general stick handling.

**** you Lakers! **** you!
This Jakaitis kid looks like the real deal. If the Lakers can get some offensive production next season, I see this team possibly playing at the Joe in March of 2005.
Eddo -
Send me your info so I can settle my debt with you. My email is sendjunkhere@charter.net. Be patient with me though. The old lady wouldn't be too happy if she knew I was making bets, so I'll need to stash some cash here and there so she doesn't get suspicious.
WEEEEE!!!!!! 50 dollars!!!!!!
haha. I tried listening to the web broadcast, but the media player was messing it all up.. so i settled for watching NMU/BGSU tie on fox sports detroit. none the less.. i have 50 bucks!!!!

Good deal Eddo!!
You know things are really looking up when one of the Lakers biggest detractors, Wiscy Willy, is talking about the Joe and LSSU in the same sentence!;)
Truth is things are really looking better. I think that last four games have proved that LSSU can at the very least compete with the lower to mid level teams in the CCHA. Add to this that they are a team mainly made up of 1st and 2nd year players, and one one can see why a sense of optimism is setting in.

Also the fact that Crawford said that the players signed to come in next season are not Doug Weights but still are very good players adds to the upswing in a possible big move up in the standings.

Jakaitis is the man. After taking the starting spot after the 8-5 loss to MSU, everygame has been a win, tie or a loss by only one goal. There was 2-1 Loss to MSU at the Joe then 3-2 loss to BGSU followed by yet another 0-0 tie to BGSU, then the 5-2 win and 2-2 tie with Northern then 2-1 loss and 4-2 win with Ferris. Jakaitis has been phenomanal. He is really keeping the Lakers in the game which helps give the guys a lot of momentum.
I think the Notre Dame series will be a big one. We tied them at Notre Dame earlier this season (with Jeff in net of course) making us one of only 3 teams they didnt completely sweep at home (the other being UAF who they tied and beat and BGSU who they lost one game to at home).
I think the Lakers can take some points this weekend. It will be interesting to see who we will play in the tournament. Looks like it could be Miami, MSU or possibly even UM depending on how the upcomng weekend goes.
GO LAKERS!!!!!!!

I am somewhat shocked to see that UNO beat UAF last night 7-4. I was virtually certain that Alaska would sweep the Mavericks. Drats! That gives them a boost in points, but since their CCHA season is over now, they cannot move up in the standings ... so we will NOT be bringing up the cellar .... woo-woo!!!!
I was also surprised to see that ND swept UofM. That amazes me. I guess ANYTHING can happen in college hockey.
Yes, next weekend should be exciting! I hope the boys are on their game and can give ND a run for their money. Jakaitis is CERTAINLY da man!!
The sad thing is ... the season is almost over ... :(
I really hate it when we hit that summer dry spell. Eegaads!
GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the season might be almost over.... but:
if jakitus does well, he can get like 9 shut outs in a row, and we will have a national title. which would make for a fun summer dry spell.
