Redhawkman, I assume this is a hyperbole here. No offence intended, but get serious. You think they should fire a coach that had you contending for a CCHA regular season title right down to the last few minutes of the season if they lose this weekend? Let's keep things in perspective here, it's not like Miami is the Duke of college hockey or anything. It's not like Enrico Blasi is having trouble dealing with the stress of continuing the long tradition of Miami Hockey Championship seasons. I think you are taking yourself a BIT too seriously at this point. ;)
Granted I have read enough of your posts this season to know that Miami is the most talented team in the country and that Brandon Crawford-West is nothing less than the Second Coming of the Messiah, but firing Blasi after a 20-12-4 season would be dumb, regardless of what happens this weekend.
Sure, Nebraska Football fired Solich after a 9-3 season this year, but Miami ain't...........well, you get my point.

I think we should cut redhawkfan some slack here.
Sure St. Patrick's day is Wednesday, not Thursday...
But don't Miami fans have a tendancy to celebrate things on off days? Things like CCHA titles?
I think I'll go start a LSSU/ Miami thread, so you'll have a place to post and we can ignore you. This is a Laker thread for Laker fans.

no, miami is on spring break next week during st. Pats day so they are having it this week, before the students leave for break...yea i know doesnt make much sense but its a tradition and always a good time....hell u cant pass up green beer and skipping class to go to the bars at 530 am can u?? lol
also mogger, never said miami was the best team in the nation, nor in the conference....michigan proved that to us when we went to ann arbor....and our non conference record isnt so hot, BUT miami has also beaten some very good teams, and CW has improved since being named the #1 guy.....and the reason i said he should be fired if they lose this series is because it would be the third home playoff series he would of lost in the last 4 years, two of them being the #2 seed.....with the team he has this year and the great senior class...if they cant pull out a win at home against lake st., he shouldnt be around...its as simple as that.....

michiganmidge,
The bars open *this* Thursday (March 11) at 5:30AM for St. Paddy's day. Actually we are way ahead of everyone else. Maybe you will catch up someday. You should try it. :) Green beer day has been a tradition here for decades. No matter when St. Patrick's day is relative to spring break, green beer day is the Thursday before spring break. Very controversial around here with the 5:30AM opening.
Two other things. I worry a lot more than Hawkman. Facing a hot goalie in the playoffs is not what you want (see Cey last year). Second, there will be very small crowds. Whether MU students are preppy (most college students are preppy, IMO) or not, they and most of the townies are out of here by Friday night. This town (of 10,000) empties out on Spring break like nothing you have seen. Last year we had about 700-800 for Notre Dame in the playoffs and they brought 100 or so! There is just no one around for home playoffs here. ******es me off, but true. Miami wanted to play Thursday, Friday, Saturday to minimize this problem.

no crowds . . . . excellent. Its all coming up Milhouse right now!!! What could be more demoralizing to the Redskins . . . er . . . Redhawks . . . then skating out to an completely empty rink? Brilliant! Let the good times roll!
Now I am not predicting a LSSU win in the series, but the boys certainly drew the most fortunate of the location of the top four.

there is a lot of truth to what redeagle is saying..but for some reason i think that some people will stick around...this team has created a lot of excitement this year and a lot more students are interested in miami athletics....mainly because of the football team, but hockey as well....i dont think it will be the near 3000 they had last weekend for the ohio st. game, but i think that they will have a decent crowd....i know ill be there lol

on another quick note...to all of you Northern Michigan women's basketball fans.....sorry for your dissapointment...i personally know you should of got into the tourny...i go to Northern kentucky and i know that our girls didnt deserve to get into the tourny....although they did play a pretty tough schedule they arent that good...not as good as your team from what i hear...i think it will be an early exit for the defending national runner ups this year....

uuhhhh, thanks I guess.......but there probably aren't too many NMU womens BB fans on this thread. (except for NMUDOC maybe, but I heckled enough opposing players at the Bud Cooper gymnasium with him to know that he is a Laker at heart). Now the LSSU womens BB team DID make the tourney as a second seed and will be playing Southern Indiana this weekend. Maybe we'll meet Northern Ketucky down the road somewhere. :p
I will cheer for the the Lake State women's basketball team for the rest of my life because of one incident back in the winter of 1997. NMUDOC and I were minding our own business in a downtown Sault Ste Marie establishment, when we were suddenly surrounded by the starting lineup of the LSSU womens BB team who insisted on dirty dancing with us. At that point in my young life it may have been the coolest thing that ever happened to me............
apologies to those who were complaining about BB talk during hockey shows/threads/etc. It will never happen again.
GO LAKERS!!! BEAT MIAMI!!!

yea sorry to keep talking about it as well....thanks for the compliment though i do what i can lol.....but southern Idiana isnt all that good...watched them play our girls and wasnt impressed....maybe we will meet but i doubt it...quincy is very good....
as too this weekends series....we all know lake st. has a good fan base and a rich tradition....and im all for rooting for you team...hell i know ive been doing it for years when miami was a cellar dweller....but im just here to but some reality back into your world....thats why im here just to be the kind soul to tell you that u wont beat miami....now im just a messenger and ur never suppose to shoot the messenger...lol

Good morning, Lakers!
I'm getting lots of looks this morning for wearing my Laker jersey here at the UM Law Library. I just had a conversation with a colleague who's a die-hard Bruins fan about Brian R. We're wishing you great success in your playoff games this weekend!
Here's my challenge: For every goal Lake State scores, I'll donate $10 to the Ruth Norvell Scholarship Fund. If Lake State wins a game, I'll donate $50. Win the series and advance, $100.
I'll be calling the Development Office when "business hours" to go on record officially. Who'll meet my challenge?
Go Lakers!

Alright, I'm in. I can't let someone who is (primarily) a Michigan fan go making us Laker fans look stingy! Plus I have to enjoy these last few months of actually having disposable income before I get married this summer and have to negotiate all financial outlays with a second party. :)
Though I specified the Marian and Raymond Chelberg Athletic/Science Scholarship Fund, as I took piano lessons from Marian growing up. I don't imagine that particular award goes to a hockey player all that often, but it's all Royal Blue and Gold deep down.
GO LAKERS!!!

Yeah Mogerfan! I talked with Susan Fitzpatrick and Tom Coates in the Development Office this morning, so they know what's up. You're right about the allocation: it all helps, and Tom would be the first person to tell you that.
Mogerfan, remember the "marriage credit" on your income tax. You're not gaining a spouse but a tax break. And donations to 501(3)c institutions are tax-deductable.
Go LAKERS!

oh let me tell u it was one hell of a time.....most of the afternoon was a blurr....i didnt know my name by noon.....for being in such a small town i love miami for everything its worth....about to head up to oxford for the game...good luck to both teams...and i will post my thoughts either tonight or tomorrow...
Not a good sign for the Lakers on the pre-game show. Bill C says the ref tonight is a young guy who likes to show he is in control by calling a lot of penalties. Let's hope he'll let them (both teams) play tonight and not be whistle happy.

Were you there at 5:30am????
GOOD LUCK LAKERS!!!!!!!!
Well Miami played great and the Lakers can't play any worse, so we'll see what happens tomorrow. Bill C doesn't pull any punches, and he was saying how bad the Lakers were playing right from the start, even when it was still 0-0. The only bright spot was Matt Violin's play in the 3rd period. Maybe it will get him the start tomorrow.

michmidge....yes i was....
and as to the game....it wasnt so much that the lakers played bad it was that miami forced them to play bad with their preasure, and speed....the lakers didnt know what hit them....it was like i said miami will come out quick and hit them hard and fast and thats what they did....i dont know of another D I team that has had less than 10 shots in a game before.....lakers couldnt penetrate the miami D nor could they break the puck out of their zone...miami's smoothering forecheck traped the lakers and put them on their heals....and violin played very well in the third making all 16 saves....at one point in the second it looked like miami was going to have as many goals as lake st. had shots.....pretty embarrasing night for the lakers and miami did everything that they needed to do and them some...they played extremely well....at times they got to cute with the puck, but when u are dominating a game as bad as they were...you can get away with it.....im not trying to knock the lakers and their program.....tomorrow night worries me....anzalone is a great coach and will make the necessary adjustments and hopefully miami wont get to over confident....

Sounds like the same game I saw at MI. So much speed that the Lakers were just smothered and never had a chance to do anything but watch the other team skate right through them.I think Jakaitis will be back in tonight.Last night it had nothing to do with goaltending, just an entire team overwhelmed with speed and much more talent and experience. Can the Lakers win tonight? only if somehow they neutralize the speed factor and make them play a Lake State game.
