Between tonight and next weekend they have to pick up some points if they hope to get home ice for the first round. The games in hand won't help them if they fall too many points behind in the race for home ice. I have no idea what's going on with the team internally the past few games, but they sure haven't been putting out much in the way of effort or played like they have much desire.

Just when your frustration with the team is about to drive you nuts, they play a good game like they did tonight. They need to play at that level all the time and not go on such a roller coaster ride that they take you on..Good game guys and lets play with that intensity all the time.

The Lakers looked pretty good last night (1/22) against State, particularly from the second period on, the penalty killing late, especially in OT was excellent. Just one request from this spartan...take this snow back up north with ya eh?

Much more exciting game last night...LSSU corrected their problems of not hitting and staying back on their feet and then they didn't look like they were playing in slow motion. It'd be nice if they bottled that up and brought that every game, but still saying that Vicari let in a softie after thinking the play was broken up for the Lakers' second goal. Like everyone has been talking about for awhile now, they really do need some guys who can consistently put that puck in the net.

I was listening to the Laker Hockey show and there was some mention about something Ron Mason has said about the Lakers. Does anyone know what it was?

Well we were about to slip to page #3, so I had to find something to talk about.
The Lakers were killing penalties much of last weekend and seemingly hardly ever on the power play. It occured to me that for a team that was supposed to take the fewest penalties in the CCHA, it sure seems like we are short handed a lot more than we are on the power play.

Looking this info up on the USCHO stats page, I found out my suspicion was correct.

http://www.uscho.com/stats/conf.php?season=20042005&conf=1&gender=m

Despite the fact that we take the fewest penalties in the league, we have still taken more than our opponents have in head-to-head play by a 85-91 count. Most teams have had 110-120 PP opportunities, and we've had only 85!

I wonder why that is? With our PP unit clicking at 12%, you'd think teams would feel free to take some penalties against us. Is it b/c we lack real speed, so teams don't have to hook/interfere to slow us down?

My guess would be that there is less obstruction type penalties when you play the slow moving grinding type of play that the lakers play.

haha...if it is warmer there!? ... I just got back from road trip to State last weekend...I have to play catch up on homework. Plus our campus winter carnival starts this weekend! 2 weeks of craziness for those of us on the student activities board! Otherwise that would be one heck of an awesome road trip!! I would love to go...chances are I never will...

From lssulakers.com:
LSSU, which has not been swept by any opponent this season, will have to equal that effort to take any points at UAF. The Nanooks, who swept Ferris State in two one-goal games last weekend, are 5-2-1 at home. The Lakers are 2-8-1 on the road.

I really don't understand this paragraph at all. What about Colgate, Michigan and St. Lawrence? Can I write these things on that site? A few weeks ago they had "dramatic" misspelled for a day.

I'm glad they finally have a site that is updated after dealing with the old lssu.edu/athletics that never seemed to have much of anything, but geez hire me - I'd do it for nothing.

be careful what you say about the Sports Information Department, they have been known to spend a good protion of their day on this board. I have been saying for years that it would be great if they just posted the weekly realase on the web like just about every other school does. Something like this one: http://www.gonanooks.com/artman/publish/documents/UAFWeeklyNotes01.18.2005-FSU.pdf

But for now the best information can be found on the opponates website:

off topic but the photo on the evening snooze website today is funny as heck. Love that someone actually attempted to feed the meter.

I hope they do read this and correct their problems.

so anyone have any thoughts on this weekend? The Lakers have a team that I am finding really hard to predict day to day. After UAH and the first MSU game I thought that Frank may have lost the team and things might be falling apart, but then they have a respectable game against MSU and they throw me for a loop. Well, I think that the travel is going to get to the Lakers this weekend, and they will drop both games at UAF.

Sports Information 'Department'???!?! That would insinuate that they are made up of more than one person. Well, I guess the student employees/interns count as well.

Well, at least they got one point tonight - and almost pulled off the win.
