Lssu17...the Lakers sucked big for 5 years under Borek
Lssu17 ignores the fact that the difference between the Laker team Anzalone inherited vs the Laker team Borek inherited is like night and day...

NMU and LSSU?!?!? thats like being republican and democrat.. Its like being a colorado and a detroit hockey fan. Its like saying borek and anzalone are equally as good.. Ok, maybe its not THAT extreme.. but still, it just shouldn't be allowed...
Hey, I said Northern Michigan, Not University of Michigan...
The Lakers swept NMU recently so I don't think I should catch heck for this...

OK, so there might have been some extremely abnormal conditions involved which led you to do that, but I left them out just to stir up the pot.
Hey now, there were circumstances that caused that reaction.
But, (sniff, sniff) I've sinned against you....
(sniff, sniff) I'm a SINNER.... (sob, sob)
If you can see it in your hearts and minds to forgive Jimmy Swagart, you can forgive me right?
Anzelone got a second chance and so should I.:D

actually, it was only a win and a tie.. had it been a sweep, i woulde have let it go.
as a sidenote, i went to the movies today, and met a girl from northern.. once i found out she was from there, i started making fun of NMU. However, we ended up forming an uneasy truce when she agreed with me that both NMU hockey sucked, and that K-hole was one ugly looking goalie.

You have a point. NMU hockey is sucking it up right now and for sure, K-Wall is one of, if not the ugliest mutha's ever.
And yes, I forgot that it was a win and a tie. Please forgive.
So this girl... was she good looking?

Lakerblue I couldn't agree with you more that it's time to move on
with regard to Laker hockey
However, there are a few who choose to hide behind the past and blame it on the plight of the present---some 3 seasons later
This is just plain ludicrous
You ,among others, were instrumental in bringing Anzalone back.
Do you really think you're better off today than you were yesterday??? If revenue keeps falling that question may answer itself for all of us Laker fans
In the interim let's concentrate on sweeping Notre Dame
GO LAKERS!!!

Amen to that!
But as a "newbie" to this board, I have some serious questions for you. I am dying to ask them now, but I am sure everyone has been through this enough before I got here that no one wants to hear it now with the regular season finale and the playoffs coming up.
The Lakers matched up well against ND when I saw them in South Bend last fall, and they have only improved since then.
As Joe McGraff would say:
"OK boys, let's really try to win this one!"
GO LAKERS!!!

For the record, I was not instumental in bringing back Anzalone -- but I was quite vocal in my whole-hearted support when asked about the possibility. Frankly, though, people could have suggested bringing Rick Yeo back to replace Borek and I would have been almost as equally effusive.
Do I think the program is in better shape now than three eyars ago? Yes (obvious answer). Why?
Several reasons. First, Anzalone is building a program that will be more than a mid-standings team. Therefore, his emphasis these past few years has NOT been on winning percentage (although he does not likely suffer losing easily) -- his emphasis has been on building a foundation for the "way we do things around here." No team should settle for year after year of .500 hockey, waiting for the one year when you can finish 3rd behind MSU and Um and MAYBE make an NCAA appearance. That is the current CCHA model and it sucks. I am more than happy to sit through these lean years in order for a good solid base and attitude to be developed.
Second, the team is better now than it was three years ago because the play is not as sloppy, the players are in better physcial shape, the fan interest is slowly being renewed, the team is working harder and competing.

five goals on 11 shots doesn't make a wall..
i suppose i will let you slide on the whole 3 not 4 point weekend thing.
and if the girl was hot, do you think i would have started out with the prodding? I am not sure what the ladies are like out there, or how experienced you are with the females at lake state.. but she falls into the "lake state decent" catagory. cute face, but a little to "thick" for my liking..

Lakerblue you believe Anzalone is building a foundation "for the way we do things around here"
Doesn't it bother you just a little to see former Lakers Contois of NMU, Nightingale(Asst Capt) at MSU and Mushaluk (Asst Capt) at Maine wearing different sweaters?? Hardly Div 3 players as alleged by sm3pk
You also used to allege that the goalie was carrying the team and making the prior coach look good--past 3 seasons the current coach has been well served in that department too
My best wishes to the Laker team in the upcoming Notre Dame weekend
I would have to question anyone who considers an 11th place finish as great improvement after finishing in 12th the last three years. Borek is gone, he is a great guy, but as it turns out not the best coach for LSSU. Is Anzalone the answer, not yet, but the simple truth is that there is no one better to take the job. The season isn’t over yet, they could go an a 9 game win streak and win the national championship, if that happens Anzalone will be elevated to god status in my book. But for now I feel it is too early to tell one way or another.

Lssu17..whats nightengale now 25 years old...much older then most players he is playing against...on a far superior team then LSSU right now....and what does he have? 8 goals 7 assist. Now at what point am i suppose to believe that at 25 ..being on a much better team...8 goals..that he isnt any better then division 3...we have freshmen scoring that many this year on a 11th place team and they are not 25 years old. You have to understand something lssu. There are some of us on this thread that when we saw players quit,we didnt see that as character but just what the word implies and that is not what a coach or fans want to see on the team they follow and coach.Sorry Lssu, but the players who went to other teams, just are not tearing up the league.Matter of fact.I would venture to say their leaving never hurt the team either.

Thanks lssu17 -- your comments have been duly noted.
In fact, they were duly noted 3 months ago, and 6 months ago, and last year, and the year before. Often and repeated. While everyone on this page -- (and I mean literally everyone) -- has happily moved on and is, for the most part, supporting the team and Coach Anzalone's unique system for building a college hockey program, you have not. Bully for you. But seriously, I think we could probably cut and paste your bi-monthly posting and miss nary a thing.
Now those who follow the program understand the situation and look not only at the standings and W-L-T record to measure growth and success. We all know, for instance, that the program was in such a wretched state of disrepair and failure that Anzalone spent the whole first year cleaning house. He spent the whole second year in a combination of cleaning house and teaching anew. This year, Anzalone has a team stocked with freshmen and sophmores who are doing very well and -- I would be so bold as to proclaim -- getting better every week.
Next year, the team will finally have a larger amount of upperclassmen in the form of at least 8 juniors and 3 seniors -- and two very solid goalkeepers. Veteran leadership in a stable, pre-programmed pipeline system, is what will makes the Lakers a tough, miserable team to play against. Already we are starting to see this from the last few weeks. More to come.
The key has always been not to build a team for one shot every 4-6 years -- but to build a consistent machine. This takes time -- years -- and crying chicken-little about Anzalone is, and always has been, a waste of time.
The palyers who left could have helped the team -- and I don't know exactly why they left or were asked to leave. But I have played lots of hockey in my time -- and I know that players leave teams, are traded, cut, reassisnged, or quit for a vartiety of reasons at every level. Personalities are often the great intangible in forming a hockey team and a hockey program. I wish those player had stayed, but I am not not -- nor ever -- going to weep sobbingly for their loss. Something was amiss in the player-coach-school relationship, and thats all there is to that.
It happens every day, in every league, all over the world. Get over it, already.

Rome was not built in a day. Frank Anzalone is not a God, and I'm afraid a 9 game win streak is not in the cards.
11th place as opposed to 12th may not be a huge step, but lets look beyond that. How many games were the Lakers totally embarrased this year? Sure, a few times. UNO spanked them good early, the second game at UM was pretty painful, and a weekend shutout from Northern wasn't pretty. But overall, the Lakers were IN almost every game this year. They weren't the joke of the league, they earned respect wherever they went. Did you ever read what opposing coaches said about us the week after they played us? It was all VERY complimentary and they were always very happy to get out of a weekend series with us with any points they could.
This is not what was happening in the last few years. We were blown out regularly and no one ever said good things about us. Even if some bounces had gone the other way, and UNO had won a few more games and passed us, I would still be very pleased with this season. It's a long, crooked road, but we are on the way back. I'll be a Laker Fan for another 40 or 50 years, so I'm willing to take the slow succesful road back to the top, not look for some magic tonic or Pagan God to get us there.
I'd sure like to see double digit CCHA wins next year, and home ice one or two years after that, but we'll have to wait and see. Frank will get us there eventually.

Hey, I just called him K-Wall because you did. I'm sure it's much easier to spell than his real name. I always thought he was over-rated. When he came to NMU, there was this big thing becuase he had been scouted pretty hard by Berenson at U of M, but they passed. The announcers and the press over there would always talk about how Kowolski was extra fired up to play Michigan because of how they passed him by and all. I'd say pretty good call on Red's part.
When i was at LSSU, there were decent women, then I went to NMU and there were decent women. One thing I noticed was that although NMU had a few more hotties, they seemed to be slightly dumber too. Now Laker chicks, well, lets just say that it's a long, cold winter and bigger girls need lovin' too.
Beats Tech chicks. Nothing worse than a chick whose way smarter that you but as ugly as your dog's butt.:D

How about "cool" sports like intermural softball?
Or maybe a cross hockey/politics thread like Kerry has a much chance to be president as the lakers do of being national champs...
That ought to get some people's blood boiling.
(harmless joke btw... feel the love)
