Frank will likely not say much about the situation except that they violated rules. There are a bunch of legal reasons he cant say anything. However I will try to listen to the show (although I will be busy tomorrow and may not get the chance) If I do I will let you know what he said. If anyone else could listen in case I cant that would be great.

Well this really stinks.
The split against a very sweepable NMU (Cat fans' feeling notwithstanding) was merely "ok." We played a great, Laker-hockey-game Friday, and then left the energy and toughness in the locker room on Saturday.
But the worst is the recent spate of player situations. I have to admit it really got me down. I thought we had all this sort of stuff settled. The team is playing well, starting to put up league points, coming together as a team. To have this announcement at this time in the season is troublesome and irritating.
Don't get me wrong, I support Coach Frank 100%. I think he is a coach who maintains, and in turn demands, high standards for his players. But its just getting old -- this player-go-round. Is it the University? Do some kids come to LSSU thinking its an easy touch academically and the wild-west with no discipline? Are the parties really THAT out of control? Or is the administration just taking a harsh stance? Or is it the administration at all?
Anyone?

Sorry, I couldn't disagree more.
Look at the standings...
The Lakers played well on Friday, but the Cats didn't play at all.

I agree that this is really troubling. Right when the team seemed to be putting things together after years of struggling. Then, bam, there goes half the defensive corps. This not only affects this year, but is a huge speed bump in the whole rebuilding process. Instead of having a seasoned and experienced blue line next year, we will have to once again rely on freshman that we bring in to play key roles. Not to mention that we are getting a late start on the recruiting game to pick up three blue liners. I imagine coach Roque will be busy traveling over the next few months.
I thought we'd have heard at least some rumors by now? Any of you students hearing anything? This seems like a time when having your AD and your on air media guy being the same person is a bit of a conflict of interest. You'd think an independant media person would have let SOMETHING slip, but Crawford is completely quiet.
Still, they played a GREAT game friday and there are some positives for the weekend. Bemidgi is coming at a good time to give some experience to our new blue liners before we head to Omaha.
GO LAKERS!!!

As a student, I've heard nothing. I'm pretty sure something will be in the Compass this friday though. By then I figure someone will have something to write about, but my guess is it won't be much. They are doing a good job of keeping this hush-hush. Oh well, nothing anyone can do about it, the Lakers just need to keep strong and focus on what they need to do w/ their losses! I know they can pull through this like the last incidents. We saw this with their incredible win last Friday night. And, if nothing else, they might even become stronger as a team from it.

Its frustrating for sure but we all seen what it was like under the Borek years when there didnt appear to be any discipline and players were just going through the motions out on the ice.Its got to be tough on everyone for sure but I have to think the coaches know what they are doing and whyWe get Scoran and Reid back and we will have experience back there and Smith seems to be doing a good job and even the other freshman with g starting his name seemed to have played real well. If the players were involved in a matter that involves the courts then that is public knowledge and we will all find out.If they broke some university rule, then we probably wont

Crawford did say on Friday night that due to some student information privacy act (I don't remember what he called it specifically), they can't say anything about what happened. And, having been around for awhile and knowing how info tends to 'leak' outta the university - this one is pretty air tight. No one is saying anything, and that is weird. I doubt it involves the law. I'm sure it's a university/team rule that these guys broke.

p.s. incase you are wondering you will be able to pick me out of the crowd, I have a BSU flag I am bringing to the games as well and we will all be wearing BSU jerseys as I am sure we will stick out. ;)

BeaverStudent will be the one sticking out. Mr. Bob and myself will be "incognito" unless the Beavers are leading!!! :D :p :D
Looking forward to the days off from work and watching some road games. THere is some history between these two teams, although it goes waaaaaayyyyyyy back to the NAIA days of the 60s and 70s.

Anyone out there have the gossip on Birkeland, Mark Adamek, and Nogatch? I noticed that they have been dismissed from the team and that the University has taken them off the roster that is on the website.

No information on the town / alumni front.
That hasn't stopped the speculation from running wild in the bars. After hockey last night, plenty of the boys had their ideas -- some of the more absurd notions suggested foul-play and a set-up by the Sault Police.
The most common feeling was that both Coach Frank and the Administration want to run a tight ship, and indiscretions will be dealt with severly. What is odd about this situation is that nothing was even mulling around on the rumor mills. It seemed to catch literally everyone by suprise. I mean, nothing in the police blotter or the Evening News or Star or anything to suspect criminal behavior. And usually the Evening News doesn't miss much -- especially from the Hill.
Lets consider this: There is a three-headed-monster involved here (at least as per my speculation): Anzalone, the Administration, and Crawford. Who is pulling whose strings and is behind this behavior crack-down?
Is it Anzalone, whose job performance in the W-L department has been poor, and whose attempts to sell the team (and by through that tickets) has had limited success? Is Anzalone's job being threatened such that he needs to make some very bold moves to show "somebody" that he is actively trying to get control over the hockey team and its vaunted position as a social center for on-campus weekends.
Is it Crawford, who job as AD has been ham-fisted at best? Who has been clearly less-than-glowing in his coverage of the hockey team on the radio? (Its funny, thinking about Crawford's radio calls during the glory years and how much a screaming homer he was . . . to where he has fallen lately. Is this an indication of where his heart is moving?).
Is it the academic crowd, who loved Borek, dislike the hockey team, and really hate Anzalone (always have)? A group of professors who liked the academics-first approach of Borek and who, mostly, never followed the hockey team anyhow?
Is it the President, who would like a more media-friendly head coach at the University's most public post? A president who has fought against LSSU's "party school" image in the past year? A president who has taken some flak from the academics, Crawford, and the town for some decisions?
Or is it more likely that nothing is brewing -- that this is merely a one-time situation wherein some players broke a serious team rule -- and nothing more.

Nice speculation laker blue but I think they must have broken some rule that was not to be broken and they are gone.I think the fact that Adameks brother is still on the team and still playing tells you that he agrees with what must have happen and his brother done wrong . Otherwise I think blood is thicker then water and both brothers would be gone, but thats not the case. Also I think last Fridays game was a good indicator that the team was rallying around Anzalone and not pulling away from him.You dont have big upheavel on a team like that and then go out and play your guts out if you feel the coach was way out of line.Look at Bowling Green, they suspended all those players for just reasons and the team is playing their guts out for the coach there. This is a bad situation but in life you have bad situations and they will get through it and will be a much stronger team for it.

First of all, the lack of information on this incident has to do with a federal student privacy act that the University must take very seriously. They wouldn't be handing out info on ANY disciplinary action involving ANY student (not just hockey players) ... so that explains the lack of info floating around.
Secondly, my speculation is that these players had probably broken the alleged rule before ... gotten a warning ... and then were stupid enough to go and break it again. This would leave Frank's hands tied as far as disciplinary action is concerned - leaving him with no choice but to dismiss them. Anything less would portray him as someone handing out hollow threats. Not to mention that it would look bad for the University to be providing scholarship funds to individuals who can't even follow the rules.
Furthermore, IF this was something involving the law, it would be public record and we would all know about it.

Taken from Lake State's student handbook:
"Disciplinary Records: Disciplinary records are kept in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, as amended. Thus, disciplinary actions are recorded on the student’s "personal record" and are not placed on the student’s transcript. These disciplinary records are retained for a period of one academic year after the student graduates or after the student withdraws from the University. After such time all disciplinary records are destroyed. At all times, these personal records are confidential and are not available to outside investigation agencies unless permission has been granted in writing by the student whose record has been requested or when records are subpoenaed by a court of law."

It still could involve the law...for now, all speculation until all findings and facts are in.
For instance, I read in the Police and Fire section of the Soo Evening News about an incident that happened Nov. 22nd that may have broken the law but no names are listed...I suppose until further investigation or findings are
substantiated.
Did come across the Police and Fire section of the Soo Evening News last June that Birkeland had a charge of minor consumption.
Yeah.. the privacy act. Dr. Youngblood sent out an e-mail a few weeks ago about that privacy act.. it was mostly in regard to the students wanting information on the Ryan Reid incident.
I haven't been out much lately (i had arm surgery a little over a week ago, and i think i am getting the flu or something).. but has any of the other students on here seen the guys around campus? I know that everyone got up in arms when Ryan was allowed to still live on campus, and he is only suspended.. I would think that if they broke a University rule that involved leaving the team, they would be removed from campus too. I heard that Nogatch moved out, since he was planning on doing the jr. hockey or whatever, but i haven't heard anything about the others.
I have heard a couple of rumors.. but they were the same rumors that i heard about last year, and nothing become of them.. so they are probably just that.. rumors. If i hear anything concrete, i will keep you all informed though.
and laker-blue, be nice about the bill comments. I posted a comment about how it feels like youre listening to the other teams broadcast in the colgate forum, and i he called me up and had me come to his office to personally discuss it. I think its a conflict of interest. He tries to be unbias, but i think he over-compensates too much. He didn't sound bad last friday, tho.
Also, to any students: I talked to the director of security today about some of my concerns with the student section (namely, drunk frat guys cheering for the other team, and nothern fans sitting in the student section, and throwing things).. He said that the Student section is for ALL students, no matter the school.. I also heard that there were Adult NMU fans sitting in it though.. he agrees that it should be an LSSU only student section.. he said he would talk to stacy swanson (the building director) about the issue.. However, i wasn't at the NMU game, so i don't know what fully went on.. If you have some details, i'd appreciate having them. And if nothing becomes of it, i will try to start a formal sort of a complaint, with petitions and things. Thanks.

First of all, the Reid situation is still in the court system ... therefore, until there is an outcome, he will remain 'suspended'. So, there still could be a dismissal or a reinstatement involved there. I'm not saying it's right that he's simply been 'suspended' however, we're all innocent until proven guilty in this country.
My feelings regarding the 3 dismissals are the same ... I'm inclined to believe it didn't involve the law. There are more leaks with the Sault PD than a silicon breast implant - oooh, that was bad - sorry ... so we certainly would have heard SOMETHING had it involved legal action. Anyways, I think that our former players were caught doing something for the second time after having been warned. I also read the new campus alcohol policy, and it seems to me that there are many, many ways that one could end up being non-compliant with it, especially if under the age of 21.
Lastly, the 'adult NMU fans' you spoke of, eddo, who were sitting in the student section were none other than Mojo and the Puckheads. There was another group of them (lead by nmu_27 I think) sitting on the completely opposite end of the rink. Both groups seemed to be going heavy on the artificial noisemakers, which I found to be somewhat annoying - especially when the play was in action. But, that's another story entirely.
