not sure on Rainville, he doesn't seem obviously hurt :) Hopefully he'll be back on the ice this weekend! It was interesting to see Jeff Oke out last Friday night!
I did have a post last weekend as well, but apparently it too got "lost". Congratulations to Eves for his first collegiate goal!! Glad to see Colin getting his game on! I'm nicknaming Mike Adamek KILLER, I swear he was out for blood last weekend! The guys were sooo excited and happy when they rang the bell Saturday!! They weren't just running out to the bell and slapping hands, they were jumping all over the place with huge smiles plastered on their faces! Here's hoping this happiness continues w/ a great series vs. Northern!!

Judging by the comments coach Anzalone made during the Laker Hockey show, Rainville was what best can be described as a healthy scratch.
Hey, can anyone give me a ride from home to the game?
Or now of anyone that might be going through Grand Rapids on the way to the game?
Here's a real question for you folks in the Soo. When will LSSU stop giving away a home date (playing at the Joe) against Michigan and truely experience the effect of home ice advantage against the Evil Empire?
Why not save the Joe experience for the Super 6 and make Weasals stay for a couple of days in the U.P.? I'd be very upset if NMU gave up a home game to play at the Joe and allow the advantage to swing over to UofM.

Ah, its a dirty deal having to play the Scum of the Earth (eg, the University of California in Ann Arbor), (eg., Michigan) at the Joe. But for one game per year, its worth it.
Its payback (literally) for the Illich's helping finance the rebuilding of the stadium in the Soo. I don't think the idea was to play Michigan every year, though. That is more of a financial choice (playing Miami Ohio in the College-Hockey-Dead-Zone of Detroit would draw about 455 people). When the deal was made, LSSU was riding high as a major national power . . .
Speaking of UM hockey and its place at the top of satan's heart -- did anyone else read the article in USCHO about the "elite teams" (Minnesota and Michigan mostly) not hitting the road. Michigan simply doesn't play NC road games unless its once every few years for the absurd Big Ten lust-fest of the "college hockey showcase." They are buying home dates from other teams rather than reciprocate travel. And Beresen (a first-class cry-baby going back to his professional years) is still whimpering. He gripes about the UAF weekend. He gripes about the LSSU trip that he has to make every two years. He gripes about going to Northern. I even read last year where he was making comments about having to take the long bus ride to Oxford Ohio. The man is, had been, and will probably always be an elitist whimpering schmuck.
I think there should be a real push in the Soo to rid themselves of playing UofM at the Joe. How many actual LSSU fans attend anyhow? Make those filthy, whining, scum play in the U.P. and like it!!!
I'm tired of people coddling the UofM program. They have everything handed to them on a silver platter and still have to gall to complain about certain road trips!!!
As if we need more reasons to hate them. At least I can find solidarity amongst the many U.P. faithful hockey fans (no matter allegiances).
Best of luck this weekend Lakers...lets just hope its a clean series with lots of hitting and action.
With that said...better luck after this weekend!!! Go Wildcats!!!

I see tonight that one of the freshmen 'D's, Nogatch, returned to play with his former junior team, the Northern Michigan Black Bears according to the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League website game summary. Anyone know why?

And speaking of Northern Michigan Black Bears.....I see that they have decided to wear jerseys that look exactly like the University of Alaska Fairbanks Nanoks' jerseys. Or at least thats what the Evening Snooze..err News shows, and we ALL know that they are correct 110% of the time.

I have no idea why he would have left LSSU! He was pretty impressive for a freshman and was receiving ice time so I can only assume it was becasue of his grades.

I know that possibility exists for any player but I'm wondering if it was something else...this kid supposedly got a scholarship from LSSU and had a high school GPA of 3.7. Does anyone know if he is going to continue his freshman studies at LSSU(if it is a grades issue) or did he drop out?
If he does drop out....This does raise an eligibility question....since going back to the junior team and not fulfilling a full year at LSSU...will he be eligible to play at another DI school next year, if he chooses to do so, or does he still have to sit out a year.

BlueLineDad:
Can you post a link to the game summary you are referring too? I "googled" Nogatch and NOJHL, and got a bunch of game summaries, but they were all from Oct/Nov of 2003. Hopefully you were mistakenly looking at year old game summaries. Friday will be my first live game of the year, but listening on the radio it has sounded like Nogatch has been exceeding expectations on the ice so far.
There was also a nice article about Restoule on the NOJHL website, FYI.
GO LAKERS!!!

NOJHL Regular Season Game Summary
November 24, 2004
Northern Michigan 6 at Soo 5
The Northern Michigan Black Bears roared back from a 3-0 first period deficit to edge the Soo Thunderbirds 6-5 in Sault Ste Marie Wednesday night. Kyle Jacobson paced the Bears attack with a pair of goals with Ben Biddick, John Nogatch, Mike Hebert and Ryan Behnke adding singles. Wednesday’s game marked Nogatch’s first game back after dressing for Lake Superior State Lakers the first two months of the season.

Thanks for the link. I guess it was just wishful thinking on my part that you were looking at a year old summary. This seems like bad news. With Reid, Birkeland and Nogatch out, we are really depleted on the Blue Line. Not to mention that Nogatch seemed like he was going to be a solid Laker defenseman for the next 3 1/2 years.

If anyone listens to the game tomorrow let us know if Crawford says anything about the Nogatch situation.

I agree with you totally. This is most strange. I hope that Crawford does give an explanation. Since I'm going to the game and not listening to the radio, will someone please post the info if Bill gets into it? Thanks!

All you Laker fans... I've heard from a family that knows the junior team and what little info I received, is most definitely not good. Out of respect to the LSSU, I too would prefer to wait for an announcement from Crawford or the team.

According to an article in the Sault Star, Nogatch lost his scholarship due to an off ice incident over the weekend.
From the sounds of it, it doesn't look like he's coming back.

What in the HELL is going on up in the Soo these days??? The boys seem to be doing well on the ice - but when they step off all hell breaks loose? The Reid incident was enough embarrassment to last the season, let alone the freshmen getting cited with MIP's,apparently supplied by senior leadership, and now this?
I will be VERY interested to hear Bill's explanation as to what is ailing our team this fall...

Maybe the boys are becoming 'the Laker's' of days gone by. Seems that years ago their off-ice reputation was smattered with bouts of bad behavior. Hope this isn't the case, but you never know.

Another recruit gone assunder. Obviously, whatever act the kid committed himself or whether it was guilt by association that got him booted off the team...one should be willing to be humble about the situation... but now to hear that the kid is glad to be out of there and has pointed the blame squarely on the head coach's character. Even if there was a question of a coach's demeanor....is that worth blowing a scholarship and walking away from your teammates? As much as this is one more act that tarnishes the team's image...hopefully the rest of the players can band together and stay focused on doing their best for the team on the ice and for themselves off ice.
