Frank as always been a 5 on 5 playing coach. In his first stint at Lake State he did not want his team taking penaties.Frank knows he never gets the talent to be shorthanded,so he plays his system with 5 skaters and that is why you see them as taking fewer penalties then anyone else.If you think about, when they play 5 against 5 out there, they can play the other teams pretty darn good. Quick question...how many feel that Frank has been the right man for the job and do you think the team as been become a much better team then we have seen in last 7-8 years? There was alot of controversy when Anzalone was brought back on this thread and I am wondering how we all feel now about it.
5 on 5 the Lakers looked great against Ferris this weekend. They weren't flashy, but they just out worked and out muscled Ferris all weekend long. It was a beautiful thing. Also, not to take anything away from Jakaitis, who was great, but most of the shots the Lakers allowed Saturday were low percentage perimeter shots, so it is not like they played that poorly defensively in allowing 40+ shots.
I'm certainly not asking the Lakers to become a bunch of thugs who take cheap shots (you have the Greyhounds across the river when you are in the mood for that type of hockey), I'm just saying that they need to improve their penalty kill because there are some situations where you really HAVE to take the penalty. The Lakers just can't afford to take ANY penalties right now and it cost them at least one goal this weekend.
Frank Anzalone is the man. Thankfully I was out of the country for most of the Borek years and didn't have to watch my beloved team suffer in purgatory, but clearly Frank is bringing them back to respectability where they belong.
GO LAKERS!!!

I understand your jest ... and I'm assuming that this was your first time seeing the team play this season? If that's the case, I'm certainly glad you didn't witness any of the previous two seasons. They've come a long way, but have a ways to go. It's been a long, slow struggle ... but they're getting there.
I started with Laker hockey durig the 93-94 season and we all know how that ended.:D
That was the first of four years of solid hockey that ened for me with the dissapointment of the beginning of the Borek time. Going out in the first round to Bowling Green really left me bitter.
The next four years, I watched them from a few miles west of the Soo, hence my screen name...
I think we all agree that we're just waiting for the day to come when the "little school in the U.P." once again leads instead of follows. Guess I'm getting a little anxious.

So are you a Northern fan as well?
I grew up in the Soo and have followed the Laker's since high school. I went to a Big Ten school - also in the CCHA - but NEVER cheered them on in hockey ... EVER. Just couldn't bring myself to betray the mighty Lakers!
I'm very anxious as well ... but, I've also learned patience. It's very important - especially now.

Yep I am an NMU and LSSU fan...
When they play each other I just cheer for a good game. Since I went to both schools, I think I'm entitled.
Honestly I think LSSU is coming back up, while NMU might be headed down for a little while.
NMU and LSSU?!?!? thats like being republican and democrat.. Its like being a colorado and a detroit hockey fan. Its like saying borek and anzalone are equally as good.. Ok, maybe its not THAT extreme.. but still, it just shouldn't be allowed...

My brother got degrees from both LSSU and Northern and likes both teams but he still loves LSSU the best even though he lives in Marquette.I guess the town we grew up in,that being the Sault, will always be home.NOw,extreme would be bring Borek back and tell him what a mistake we made letting him go.

Don't worry Doc, I won't tell anybody that you passed up a ticket to the Lakers win at FSU, so you could go sit in a bar and watch the Northern game on TV..........
OK, so there might have been some extremely abnormal conditions involved which led you to do that, but I left them out just to stir up the pot.

The Soo is a proud area enriched by wonderful, wholesome folks----some rabid about Laker hockey. As there are everywhere, there are despots who concentrate on tearing down others rather than accepting what they to a small part created
The 2000-01 Laker team, according to a Blue Liner communication,
had only 3 players play in all 36 contests and 115 man games were lost due to injury and/or illness. Playing the CCHA major tier they finished in last place with a 13-22-0 (8-19-0 CCHA) record
sm3pk has indicated the Lakers were all Div 3 players and that's why the current coach disbanded them. Pause and reflect on the names that played---including those still playing Div 1 hockey. This coach has every right to formulate this team in his image. Let's have the past be just that, with various folks in the Soo
having their respective opinions
Let's judge the current coach on his record in the 3 seasons he's been behind the bench. Thus far, in playing against the lower tier,
he's 8-17-7 (6-15-5 CCHA)---with Notre Dame coming to town
GO LAKERS!!!!
