Although I am disappointed in the Lakers' performance this weekend, I think a weekend off will do them some good. Also, it was good to hear some of the players stepping it up. Mike Adamek seems to be doing great after missing much of the season last year. I'm also glad BJ is getting the opportunity to prove himself. Matty Restoule seems to be taking the ice by storm....I heard his name more during the games than anyone else's!!

I talked with Ren Saturday and if all goes as planned he will be back playing for parent's weekend vs. Alaska Fairbanks! It will be nice to see him back on the ice, he's pretty anxious to get back out there as well.

Restoule got a lot of playing time at the game I saw on Saturday. I believe he also got a lot of time in Friday's game from what I could tell listening to the webcast. And he got a goal and an assist to show for it.

Defensively and in goal they are playing pretty well, although a full strength BG team would have given them more trouble in Saturday's game. I thought the defense was a little sloppy and lackadaisical handling the puck at times, although BG wasn't able to take advantage of it.

One of the humps they have to get over to become a better team is to show that they can sweep someone, regardless of whether at home or on the road. The inconsistency on offense is making that a difficult chore.

No one can expect to go 3 on 5 with Michigan and NOT get scored on. Geez. The answer to the loss is PENALTIES, plain and simple.

Check the box score for the last 5 minutes or so of the 2nd period, Ferris at Michigan Friday night. Game, set, match...ME.

You seem to have some sick obsession with being right ... rather, anally obsessively correct. Very interesting ... ;)

Nice-sized group of Lakers fans this weekend, glad you could make it.

I always enjoy the LSSU games. One reason is that both teams' supporters can appreciate good play, including great checking, without crying to the ref whenever one of their guys takes a hard hit.

I think that the talent (such as it is) with this years Lakers is clearly in the Sophomore class

GO LAKERS!!!

OK, so less than a month later, the top five scorers are in the Junior class and the Sophomores have accounted for one goal in six games. Good thing I am not a scout.......

Well,

Personally I am not too upset about the weekend. A split on the road is never a bad thing. Could the Lakers have won on Saturday? Probably.

But I had a sneaking hunch that the BGSU players and coaches were pretty mad at themselves for the Friday night game -- and I knew that team was going to come out hard and play tight, tough defense. The Lakers were not getting quality plays but some credit must go to BGSU for altering their defensive scheme for the second game to offset what the Lakers were able to accomplish the night before.

1-5 to start the season, but they have also only played one game at home. Plenty of home dates are on the way in the near future. I think this weekend showed that the team can take league points on the road (suspension-limited team or otherwise).

I thought Hall called a lot of cheap penalties, although it evened out both ways. He called very few of the interference penalties that supposedly are a point of emphasis. He called a lot of stuff that was just guys following through on a check. I didn't like the game he called. If college hockey wants to cut down on interference, fine start enforcing that, but let the guys still play a game where they can check each other.

Hall is my favorite referee to despise. I also noticed that he was calling things other than interference and obstruction. I can't exactly complain when penalties are called by the book, though. That said, I'm not really observant or expert enough to judge. HOWEVER I have seen Hall make some horrendous calls. This time, I don't think Campbell deserved a major, much less a DQ, for checking from behind. Heck, I didn't expect a penalty at all on that play.

I saw the check from across the rink.....he left his feet. Whenever that happens a major and a DQ will be called.

I found it rather odd that, on Saturday, Hall called only penalties against LSSU in the first period, and only against BG in the second. Talk about distinct advantages by period. That tactic is just wrong, IMO. Worst ref in the CCHA.

Hey! This is a political-free zone, sm3pk ... don't go sayin' that stuff! ;)

Did you guys see the thread titled "Jeff Mushaluk"? If not, check it out. It's worth a grin or two.

So I'm out at the offices for Soo Township, doing that voting thing we do, and who should I run into but a couple guys off my Downtowner hockey team.

Both of these guys follow the 'Hounds more than the Lakers, but they said this year they had a good feeling about LSSU. A tough early schedule is over . . . and now the team can settle down to some home games, some lighter opposition, and hopefully some much-needed momentum.

Always nice to know the die-hard Greyhounds fans are still praying for LSSU, too.

I saw that Midge, made me laugh my butt off.

As for the politics, vote early, vote often, just don't vote for someone who is going to get me killed in SWA.

I was a pretty big 'Hounds fan when I lived in the Soo, though the Lakers always came first. I probably made a dozen or so 'Hounds games a year. Adam Foote, Joe Thornton, Chris Simon.....it was good hockey. Plus occasionally you got to see people drop the gloves and pound the heck out of each other (which may not be good for hockey, but it sure was worth the price of admission).

There really are few places with more hockey history than the War Memorial in Sault, Ontario.

Although nothing beats leaving the Norris after a Laker win, the snow falling, the Corner Pub calling for the second half of Hockey Night in Canada's double-header . . . . a close second would be a Tuesday night Greyhounds game against Sudbury, middle of winter, bitter cold snap coming through, some TimBits and the hot chocolate from the rink (best hot chocolate in hockey . . . better than the Pullar).

I always suspect that the peopl who bad mouth our little city and out little school never really found an appreciation for the little things that make SSM special. Yes, its a "dirty little town filled with dirty little people," to quote one of my disgruntled LSSU professors (who has since, mercifully, left to no doubt find greener pastures). Yes, the city looks much better with a good three feet of snow covering it. Every now and then you run into somebody who really didn't "get" SSM or LSSU. We had a guy like that online here recently -- he either trolled himself out or was banned. Bitter and confused as to how anyone with any brains could fathom thinking LSSU or SSM were "Great places!"

Granted, its a much nicer place when the Lakers are winning. But for my money there isn't a more incredible place in Michigan. Personally, I could not for the life of me understand how anyone could think anything in Southeastern Michigan is attractive -- its the ugliest part of the country, up to and including Gary Indiana.

Frank talked about how on Saturday they just had trouble scoring. On Friday they had a lot of guys shooting good shots at Sigalet and on Saturday they didnt have a lot of quality shots on goal. Frank said that is just the way it is sometimes and its something they are going to work on. He said they have two recruits they are looking at, at the current moment who apparently are scorers theyre looking for.

Frank talked highly of Restoule and a few other players. He also talked about how a few of the scorers from last season need to step it up a bit. It was a good show.

From what Bill Crawford indicated on last Fridays' web broadcast, someone would be signing with the Lakers during the upcoming (Nov 10-17) early siging period. Did Frank say if one of these guys they are looking at will be signing shortly? I expect they'll also be signing a goalie for next season, somewhere along the line.

The Laker's off weekend coincides nicely with my plans; heading to Florida's Gulf coast in the morning for a week of R&R at the beach.

Frank had no news about actually signing anyone but he did sound opptimistic that these two guys he mentioned would. He talked a little about goalies but didnt have much to say. He said that they are looking around but it sounds like they really havent gotten into the full swing of it yet.
