It is pretty quiet around here considering the Evil Empire comes to town tomorrow.

No one caught the radio show on Monday? Any word on Fauci's injury? I don't think he was expected back yet, but it would be a nice bonus if he was.

GO LAKERS!!!

Didnt listen to the show but from what I hear Ren is feeling better. Hard to say whether or not he will play. If he's healty he will definetly. However I think that if there is any doubt that his knee is not better Coach will sit him. I dont think Coach would want to risk him hurting it more and possibly losing him longer.

Defense sounded decent again Colgate. If they can keep that up they can probably keep the games close. However, the offense has got to show up and score some goals to take some pressure of the D and Jakiatis or whoever Coach starts.

Interesting story I found as I was lurking on a Michigan thread, as posted by E. Gray:

"I think the team deserves its #1 in the CCHA at this point. Certainly on paper the Wolverines have, I think, as good a chance of going all the way (Frozen Four) as they've had in the last 2-3 years, with Monty in goal. I have nothing but good feelings about Nystrom as captain. More than anything, though, my eye is on Werner. I think there's a lot of potential there, and I'm deeply happy that he won his way back onto the team after that slight academic diversion.

On a related note, given tonight's opponent ... I had the pleasure of chatting with one of the current captains of Lake State on Sunday, at Moloney's Alley in the Sault. I was sitting under their 1988 championship poster, talking to the waitress about LSSU, and was told that a player was in the other section. I asked to extend compliments to him, on behalf of two fans from Ann Arbor ... and I was mightily surprised when this gentleman came striding up to our table, teasing: "I heard some Michigan fans were over here trashing Lake State!" The big smile gave him away.

On the contrary, we talked about the glories of Lake State in the 80s and early 90s and how Ann Arbor trembled at the sound of busses arriving from SSM. He talked about recruiting, the coaching transition, the erosion of the fan base in the Sault as the team's w/l record sagged. We said that we remembered the old Lake State, where Coach Anzalone is aiming for now. Told him that yes, we're Michigan fans, but that LSSU epitomizes the small school/tough competition that we admire in college hockey programs. Told him, It's a *Michigan* (state of) thing.

We shook hands and wished him very well."

I thought this was a nice compliment coming from a fan of our big blue nemesis.

well, from down here in Huntsville it sounded like the Lakers should have won this game. The penalties killed them. Sucks to hear that Jakaitis is injured.

The box score says Michigan scored all 4 goals with at least one Laker in the PB. Only one goal was even strength 4x4.

All in all an excellent showing by the Lakers who could have easily won this game. They started off real strong in the first period, suffered a meltdown of sorts in the second but rebounded well enough in the third.

The officiating was BRUTAL!!! The idea that penalties will be called to thwart obstruction is a MYTH! Many of the Laker penalties were caused by good old fashion physical play and hitting and SHOULD not have been called!

Hopefully Frank can take the many positives from this game and re-inforce the belief to his players that they can indeed play with Michigan and even beat them! (providing they're not robbed by the stripe bandits!)

What happened to Jakiatis????? The summary on the website says he was injured, but thats it. If Violin starts and Willie is the backup for Saturday, I'm scared...(sorry guys) - I just remember all too clearly the 5-0 loss two years ago at the Joe...

Even though I was only able to watch the game tick away on the gametracker, I am very happy to see that we got three past the almighty Montoya. Too bad they came back because of some bad calls - Berrinson must have been having flashbacks from the playoffs a few years back! But lets hope that some adjustment will be on Coach A's mind, and we can pull off a big win at the Joe Saturday.

What happened to Jakiatis?????

Confused us at the game also...it wasn't his fault. We were guessing unnoticed injury.

Penalties did not determine the game.

I like Taffy Abel, but not the traffic directing cops )-:

Moloney's rules, as does Lauren.

It's BERENSON.

how can you say that they didn't determine the game?? jakitus had an awesome save, which had to get the good ole review.. which the judge said didn't go in.. and then U of M miraculously goes on a power play.. and not just any power play.. but one where our guy shoves someone, then gets knocked on his back.. and gets a five min penalty out of it.. whereas the guy who pushed him gets 2 min.. MICH got two goals on the five minute major right there... if that didn't determine the game, i don't know what did.

I have to admitt that I am very impressed with the game the Lakers played last night. Hopefully these penalties aren't going to kill them in any more games. Poor Jakaitis is suffering from a groin injury apparently. SAD. Well it's off to mighty Detroit for the weekend, here's hoping MATTY V can help the Lakers pull off a great win!!

MICH got two goals on the five minute major right there... if that didn't determine the game, i don't know what did.

Lets see... as you said, your guy shoves someone, our guy shoves back, another small melee ensues and Mike Adamek basically wrestled Brandon Kaleniecki to the ground with Kal laying on stomach while Adamek was ripping at his head. The rest of the players grabbed each other and stayed out of it. Adamek got five minutes, Kal got two. Go figure... I wasn't surprised at the call and was expecting at least a double-minor on Adamek, just like I expected U-M to get an extra penalty earlier in the period during the first scuffle.

But of the two goals Michigan scored after it, only ONE was on the power play. The first one by Kevin Porter was during four-on-four play. So your penalty argument doesn't hold up there (or you basically make it sound like Michigan had a five minute power play, which they didn't).

Too bad about Jakaitis. We were wondering what happened to him since he was having a great game.

how can you say that they didn't determine the game??

Because I don't think they did. I've been to 10 games in the last three weeks. They're all getting called like last night's game, with the penalties being reasonably even in distribution*. You can't say penalties determined a game just because the other team scored on their PP chances and yours didn't.

Lake State looked much improved out there. Be happy with that. I know I am...I've got a bet on them (-;

*No, I have not checked the box score for every game.

So how did Derek Smith (frosh d-man) look? It sounds like he was out on the Laker pp a lot and had a goal and assist to show for it. The Lakers have lacked a good offensive d-man for a long time, and my mpression has been that Smith was recruited to help them in that area. But from someone who was actually at the game, how did he look?

Crawford seems to like him. Said Smith looked like he had been in the lineup for a lot more than 3 games.

Penalties most certainly determined last night's game winner! The Laker's had 13 for a total of 29 minutes ... and that is coming from the team with one of the lowest season penalty minutes in the nation last year.

When a team comes in and plays like Michigan does (read: dirty), the Lakers had to respond. Unfortunately, that response resulted in too many penalty minutes at critical times ... and we lost the game. The Lakers (or any team for that matter) just cannot withstand a 5 on 3 situation when the opponent is Michigan.

However, I doubt Michigan came to town expecting the game they got. The Lakers played very well - with last year's non-existant powerplay showing incredible improvement. I'm very excited to see how the rest of the league play rolls out.

GO LAKERS!!!

I was at the Joe last night and did the lakers play good? Yes,they played very well and I even heard some MI fans say it was a very good game with no one really outplaying the other. The Lakers just seem to make those couple of mistakes that cost them goals and games still. This is probably the best I have sen the Lakers play in a number of years and thats good. The downside though,is that after a while you just get so tired of watching them get swept week after week and I am sure Anzalone and the players are about fed up with it as well.We need a couple players who can score and we need the defense to stop giving up the mistakes that are costing goals.I was planning on going to Bowling Green but am so tired of watching them lose that I am not sure if I will go now.I guess the sad part is that I have been watching the Lakers since the 60s and now not so sure I want to go to a game. They seem to be going the way of MI Tech and thats not good.

I think you should go to Bowling Green, sm3pk ... show your support! It's a long road back to becoming a winning team, but the boys are getting the job done and you can't stop going now!! BELIEVE!!!
