Well, here is one poor sap stuck in Southeastern michigan who is hoping the Lakers bring it all together. With the Wings out of action, there are going to be a lot of mouthy UM and MSU jokers who are quasi-knowledgeable about college hockey. And from what I recall about the Lakers of the 1990's, nothing ticks off a barely-informed UM college hockey fan more than "that school" from Up North.

Well, I am going to have to take offense to the comment about "mouthy UM and MSU jokers" and the implication that I am a "barely-informed UM college hockey fan" . To the contrary I actually attended LSSU for my undergrad. But for my masters I attended U of M. And to that certain WSUmudlots: This barely-informed hockey fan has LSSU's past to prove what I am talking about. Their fluke national championships (that were almost given to them) is nothing to bring up today, as the team hasn't finished better than last or second to last place in the last 4 years, and there isn't much more depth or skill on this years team to make me think they are going to surpass their past years records. Oh and we will see how "that school from up north" performs on Oct. 21 & 23, when they meet my boys!!"

How can you call 2 National Championships in 3 years a Fluke especially when they won one of them 8-1 in the final? And how can you also say they will not even win 2 CCHA games? They won more then that last year and didnt finish in last, last year either. And I know there were a several players that had 10 CCHA points. And this team is better then the one they had last year.
And the reason this team has not had the best record is because they are in a rebuilding stage. I know what you are going to say. Thats a long time to rebuild. BUT IT DOES TAKE TIME. Each year this team has gotten better. They will finish higher this year and will probably be back towards the top within another 2 or 3 years. Anzalone has a class that are all recruits of his. He is putting together a team that will win games.
You cant base this years team on the past. Especially when that past is from a different coaching era.

I just have 2 comments about Uof M hockey fans.. I took a buddy to a game for the first time to see Mi play Lake state. My buddy was a big MI fan.Halfway through the first period he was cheering for Lake State.I asked why the change and he said there is noway I am going to act like a punk just to fit in with these fans.Sat next to bus driver for the Western MI team one night during a game and we were talking and he asked me if theses fans were always this bad,I said you have not seen nothing yet.One of the referees got injured, went down and most the stadium stood up and cheered. The bus driver wanted to know how so many punks could show up at the same time for a game...lol..As for the Lakers being given championships...you really need to get off the drugs you are using.

Yawn. Another stupid troll from a troll. And I suspect WSUmudlots wasn't saying anything about the troll's posting -- but the troll took the imaginary bait anyhow.
But its a few days until the real action starts, and there is nothing wrong with getting a good reminder of why the fine people here in the UP hate UM -- so lets all sit back and see if bonzo-the-wonder-simp can come up with more gems . . . maybe next he'll break out the always-clever "redneck yooper" remark. Maybe if we're extra special good he can thrill us with more goodies like "goon hockey" and "never deserved their championship" rancor!
Its been too long since the chuckleheads in southeast michigan spouted off, lets see if they have anything new -- or if they are like their hockey fans -- yammering the same tired chants and same tired songs over and over and over and over and over and over . . .. . . . .

After reading several pages of posts, I have come to the conclusion that you guys simply worship a hockey program that has let you down year after year. This is maybe the same chant that you have heard about LSSU, but if LSSU hockey fans are tired of hearing them, maybe the chants aren’t the problem – maybe it’s the program.
I have a few comments I would like to address about some disturbing posts that I have read:
LakerBlue – You may think I am a stupid troll with stupid ideas, but at least I know failer when I see it. Your fairytale like opinion of the program is just setting yourself up to get disappointed for yet another year. Why don’t you root for the Chicago Bulls? Sure they are one of the worst teams in the NBA, but they did have some championships in the past, if we wish hard enough they will magically become the best again. But remember those wins were in the PAST!!!
LakerFan24 – I think your mistaken comparing LSSU’s failing program to Notre Dame’s football team. When I was a student at LSSU, the students gave the players no respect. They were known as party animals, cheaters and womanizers. I feel bad for Norte Dame to have their name mentioned in the same sentence as LSSU. Even though I don’t care for Notre Dame, at least they can be respected!
Sm3pk – Are our hockey fans scaring your opponents? Because the last I noticed we can fill a stadium and make it intimidating for other schools to play here. I was a friend of a player here and he said that playing at LSSU was like a practice – work hard and you know you will win, he also said the players enjoyed going to LSSU because it was two easy victories and they got to do their homework on the way there and back.
I would advise you all to take off your rosy colored classes that you are looking through and wake up and see what Laker Hockey truly is: A failing hockey program, with no end in sight

who is lake state...no...your fans are not scaring the opponents.your fans are showing everyone that it is possible just like the bus driver said to get that many punks together at the same time for the same game....its good to see that the program at lake state under anzalone has you worried and it bothers you that laker fans still love the game and the team.....and one other thing.....class is something you either have or dont and mi has never had and will never get it..sorry kid.....but nice try in putting lake state down...when you get older you may get more wise...nah

It seems odd that a person would randomly troll - it always has. But such as it is: lets see if the little nipper has anything more fun to say! Gee, what amazing insight into the recent state of LSSU hockey! WOW! "LSSU Hockey has been bad." Obviously you NEED a master's degree just to have that sort of in-depth knowledge. Oh,and here is a great item for all of us to chew on: "LSSU Hockey is going to stay bad." OOOOh my, such an in depth and scortching indictment of all things associated with the Lakers. If we wait, perhaps our blooming future Steinmetz can enlighten the simple, ignorant, silly people of the UP as to other such enormous intellectual explorations, such as "The sky is blue," "Grass is green," "I like cheese," and "Michigan fans are really crazy because we -- gasp -- swear! In Public."
Its funny how success breeds band-wagon simps. As a young man, I recall watching a few Laker games at crumbling Yost, and there were less than a few hundred random people (mostly parents) watching Michigan hockey. Does our trolling friend's enormous college hockey knowledge stretch back beyond those foggy ancient memories of the late 1980's?
What would make anyone side with Michigan after spending any time in the Great North is a mystery to me -- but I have never felt any interest to cheer for the snobs and arrogant children of privildge who generally support that place. What happened to this troll? Did a deer give him a dirty look? Is he just prejudiced against Native Americans and blue-collar working class people? Did a professor give him a "C" when he deserved a "B"?
But really, as you're either new or a bitter troll looking for a little spite-filled fun prior to the season getting underway, you should know this: Part of being a fan is look at the bright side, to get excited for the upcoming season, to be interested in our Alma Mater and support her through thick and thin. "Only the weakest of mind and poorest of sould turns their back on their own home when the vane lights of the whores of the city lure them into decadent debauch." -- J.G. Whittier. On this site, we Laker fans gather to discuss the team, the history, the joys and failures of OUR school. The readership and contributors to this discussion are made up of loyal LSSU alumni and fans who wish for nothing more than the success of LSSU on (I assume) all endeavors -- including hockey. I'm sorry you're either too shallow or too dim to appreciate these modestly higher endeavors. You probably do not -- and never will -- understand. Bandwagon simpletons never really do.

Well said Lakerblue. Well said.
That being said lets get back to what this board is all about...Supporting OUR LSSU LAKERS. Im looking forward to this season. I especially expect to see something out of the juniors. Jon Boras, Nathan Ward, Kory Scoran, the Adameks and others have all been getting progressively better. Boras had got the speed and is undoubtedly one of the best players on the team. At the Blue/White game on Sunday his goal was awesome. He got the break-away and put it right past Matt. There are very few goalies that would have been able to stop that shot he took.
If Frank continues on the way he has with picking captains (a senior captain and junior or sophomore A) it will likely be Cheesman. I cant see any other logical choice. As for the A there could be a few choices. Ward, Boras, Rainville, Osman Campbell are all good choices. I could see two As this year acutally in Ward and Rainville. Any other LAKER FANS have any thought on who it will be this year?

Well I definitely don't call that a game...I call it a SLAUGHTER! The guys played so well. I saw great improvements in almost all of them, and the new guys didn't take long to get into the action! They played the boards really well. I have to say I saw a TEAM tonight that could PASS, keep the puck out of their zone, and SCORE!! They spent some "valuable" time in the penalty box while still keeping control of the puck. PowerPlays were killed exceptionally well. I'd say a 15-1 WIN is a great way to boost the team's spirit! This should encourage them for the rest of the season...the smiles on their faces as they rang the SWEET SOUNDING VICTORY BELL were amazing. CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT WIN LAKERS!! Looking forward to a great season.
Bo CHEESY-#2 star -ON FIRE w/ GOALS!!
Steve McJannet-#1 star!! great to see him score a couple!!
Jeff Jakaitis-the man with ALL the MOVES!! He can stop most ANYTHING!
Colin Nicholson-actually spent more time on his feet than falling down!!
Mike Adamek-definitely got his stick on the puck whenever he could, he seemed to be everywhere!!
Jon Booras-SPEEDY!!
Trent Campbell-THE PUNISHER! gotta luv his brutality and scoring ability!
Kory Scoran-star #3 with his numerous assists
GREAT JOB TO ALL THE OTHER LAKERS AS WELL!!

It was nice to see so many goals and the big difference i think is that if Lake State had been playing Toronto for the last 6 7 years in a row now they might have beaten them but it would have been 3 to 2 or 2 to 1,nothing like this...big improvement

Yes jnacc Bring on Michigan Especially after this game of ours andthis game (http://www.uscho.com/recaps/20042005/m/10/08/um-nu.php) of theirs. Way to go Northeastern.
And this is a box score (http://lssulakers.collegesports.com/sports/m-hockey/stats/2004-2005/ls-to108.html) I think we'd all like to see more often. Except for the penalty minutes that is. I think we had more penalty minutes in this one game then we did in like 3 and 4 game stretches last year. They are really crackin down. Nice to see the guys go 7/12 on the power play though and 1/8 on the penalty kill.

um . . . .wow.
I don't think and analysis is needed when the team wins 15-1.
Not 3-1, not 6-1, not even the hoped-for 9-1.
FIFTEEN.
That was, uh, um, wow.

If exhibition games are any sign of how the season will play out the CCHA may be interesting especially after Northern tying with The USA Under 18 Tean and losing 1-0 to York. The USA Under 18 Team also beat Michigan Tech 6-2 (maybe USA Tean is just really freaking good this year). It will be interesting to see how MSU plays against Toronto tomorrow.
Yes, an impressive win, if nothing else than from the standpoint of hopefully providing the guys with some confidence that they can score. But until we see how they do in some real (Div 1) games, I don't put a lot of meaning into this game as a precurser to the season.

I thought that they might have posted the score wrong. Great to see the team put up a respectable score in their exhibition game this year. The real test will come next week, that’s when we will know if this team is for real or not.

Am I the only one who looks at the captains of the MI State team and see its the Nighengales and think is Comely trying to rub something back into Anzalones face? You would think the captain would be at least someone who came their from the beginning and worked for 3 -4 years to be name captain. That was just like Maine. We lost that defenseman to them and first year he is there they make him assistant captain.Am I seeing too much here?
Hopefully Ciccone never plays in a meaningful game.
if my memory serves me correctly., willie only allowed two on the night, in the second stanza he allowed one, and was later replaced by matt, who allowed three relatively quick ones late in the game.
