Welcome to the board LakerMark!
I agree that it should be a fun season. I am hoping that one of the returning sophomores you mentioned will develop into that go-to goal scorer we so desperately need. I only made it to 3 games last year and probably won't see them play more than 4 or 5 times this years, but I am chomping at the bit for the season to start.

We'll need more than one player to have a breakout season in order to have any kind of significant move up the standings.

Rainville seemed to start emerging a little towards the end of last season. Campbell had a decent freshman season, and Smith also showed some ability to score as a freshman although neither had big numbers. Osman started great, but slowed down in the second half. Restoule still seems to be a big question mark, although Frank seems to think he has good potential; he is still young, so this season may give a better indication of what he can do.

OK, so now that school has started, does anyone have any info on how the new guys seem? How about the attitude of the returning players as they get ready for the season?

I've talked to a few of the returning guys and they are looking forward to getting the season started. A couple of the new guys have the excitement in their eyes. By the sounds of it they have been putting forth a great deal of effort during practice, with some new "activities/techniques" added by Frank to enhance their skills as well. The ice was put in the other day so they started practice inside. Definitely looking forward to this season. I hope that they start off on the right foot and keep the momentum up for the entire season! I think we are going to see great things from a couple of the returning players! GOOD LUCK LAKERS!! :D

Does anyone out there know if the Compass is going to update their website this year?

Yes, yes you do.. i sent you my address.. but got no reply.. i was actually logging on to see where you were.

There you are Eddo. I'm not sure if I still have the original email at home, but send your details to sendjunkhere@charter.net. It was one of those things that slipped my mind after the season was over, and one day while I was cruising the boards I saw the laker thread and it reminded I still had to pay up.

So let me know where to send those 500 aluminum cans, so we can put the past behind us.

and here's to seeing the the Lakers at the Super 6 *holds up imaginary beer*

OK, so we're getting reasonably close to the first exhibition game. Someone must have some news out of the Soo on how the team is looking???

I'm suprised no one has said anything about it so far...especially since it's been in the news...but considering 3 of the guys took it upon themselves to get arrested last weekend...2 because of minors consuming and the other on a felony warrant...things haven't been looking so good. The guys are keeping things pretty quiet as well. None of them want to talk about what happened. Frank isn't saying much either other than he hopes this gets behind them. I'm not sure at this point where things stand. These are just the facts (all of which can be verified on Sault Evening News website). I just hope they can pull through these issues and play a great season!

I am gonna state what I know about this matter. There were 4 arrests. 3 were freshmen that were picked up for minor comsuming. The 4th arrest was an aggravated assault charge. The assault was a player knocking down and choking a young girl who is not a student. The incidents stemed from the "freshmen party" which I am told Coach told his players not to have. All the incidnets took place on the same night altough the arrest for assault came on Monday. I am told that the county prosecuter has filed charges and the player has been since kicked off campus and the team. All this info was from the Soo Evening News and The Compass.

The team has also been kicked out for their locker room for some period of time. (How long I dont know) So they have to store their own equipment and shuttle it back and forth to the rink for practices. All the players are paying the price for this one. Their image on campus has been tarnished and they are gonna have to pay for it during practice as well.

This is an interesting time for the team. Hopefully they have learned a lesson and will try better to behave. I think Frank is none to pleased to and will be disciplining them thourughly. When the season hits the guys will have to put this mess behind them.

This is very disturbing news! This is a make or break year for the program (in more ways than one!) and this sad incident will no doubt have an impact on the team as the season begins.

Did they mention what freshman was charged and subsequently released from the team?

Its not a happy time for Frank, thats for sure. Then again its not like this is the only team that has had a problem like this. Am sure alot of infractions go on that have to be dealt with and this one will be dealt with as well and the team will move forward as always.

The person who was charged with assault was not a freshman but rather a senior. The freshmen were charged with the minor consuming and as far as I know are still on the team.

Alrighty, so we have made it through another weekend - and I am praying that no one else got kicked off the team! I have to say that I am not too upset about the situation, although it will be interesting to see how the team reacts. We are now down to TWO Seniors - one will be wearing the C, and there is little doubt who that is. The other is between the pipes, although only sometimes, barring a huge comeback, or Jakiatis getting hurt. That scares me a little, but what scares me more is what is going to happen NEXT year when we graduate HALF the team!

No doubt that this is a make or break year, especially for Frank. His contract was up this summer - does anyone know if it was renewed?? Or are we in wait and see mode?

To everyone back in the Soo, please let us know how the Blue and White game goes on Sunday, especially how Jakiatis looks. I am ready for these boys to take the CCHA by surprise this year! GO LAKERS!!!!!

Will do. I plan on going to the game. Although Im gonna be neutral and wear some Laker gold rather than Blue or White :) .

From the sounds of it the team has put the incidents of the other weekend behind them. They have been focusing pretty hard on practice. Hopefully they look good on Sunday and again when they play Toronto. We got a big test early in the season with UM. Go Lakers!

So the roster on the website has changed again. Gone is that Bahen guy who I was sort of excited about. In his place is a guy named Justin Gutwald from the Indians. Anybody know what happened to Bahen? Anybody seen Gutwald play before?

I wonder if the scholarship that the former Laker senior was using (assuming he was on one) can be awrded to one of the walk-ons, or if they just have to waste it for the year.

GO LAKERS!!!

I agree. I was hoping that Bahen would turn out to be a big plus for the Lakers also. If he's not on the team, that's a disappointment.

The CCHA held it's media day today and LSSU was picked to finish 10th in the Coaches Poll, and 11th in the Media Poll. I picked the Lakers to finish 5th in the poll I submitted. I'm always hopeful at the beginning of the season.

I talked to Bo a couple of weeks ago (before the weekend incident), and he told me the team was looking good and feeling good. My hope is that perhaps this could be a character building incident, and hopefully the players will lace them up and rise above this as a TEAM.

Got to see the team scrimmage a bit today in practice. They looked good, and actually had some nice plays out there. I hear Rainville has put on at 15-20 pounds of muscle over the summer....which he sure needed. Here's hoping that he can be the offensive player at this level, that he was for Jim Capy in the NOJHL.

Blue/White game is this Sunday. WSOO is broadcasting the game, but not sure if it will be on the internet. First Laker Hockey Show is on Monday, 10/4, from Moloney's Alley, also on WSOO.

I'm really getting excited about the start of the new season!

Yes it's exciting that the new season is starting, but I would feel much better if things had worked out such that Kasper and Bahen were going to be playing for the Lakers.
