Unfortunately for the Lakers, John Grahame was one of the talented players that chose to leave school early during the first couple of Borek years, probably seeing where the program was heading.

I just thought it was cool to see a goalie I scored on win a cup.

Granted, it was during one of LSSU's promo things and I think he was letting them in on purpose, but I dropped one in over his shoulder.

I tell anyone who'll listen how I once scored on an NHL, Stanley Cup winning goalie.

Life is good.:D

This article is on the LSSU website:

Now, aren't there some mistakes there? Granted I was drinking an awful lot of beer in the mid 90s, but I don't ever remember Doug Weight winning a Cup. He was on the Rangers in '94, but he was traded for Esa Tiikanen (sp) at the deadline. They left off Jim Dowd from the list of Laker Cup winners too. Whatever LSSU freshman Journalism major who was in diapers when Jimmy Dowd was here, probably got the two confused when he wrote that article.......

OK, they fixed it, they are forgiven.

GO LAKERS!!!

Anyone know if Jim Wiley is still coaching anywhere? I know he coached in the minors for many years.

Found this on Google:

Yikes, I used to think of myself as a salty old Laker Fan, but I had never even heard of this guy before. How did I ever miss a former Laker being an NHL coach? Looks like he is in Memphis now.

The current Lakers could really use a Center like Jim Wiley was. He didn't have great speed, but he was an excellent stick handler and had good moves.

One down:

Two MOB bosses from last years team have announced they have signed deals with two ECHL clubs. Luke Molotouski signed with the Las Vagas Wranglers, and Kris Kasper inked A three year deal with the Peoria River men. Good luck to the boys in the future and play hard.........

DRAT!!!
I had high hopes for Kasper.
So I assume he couldn't make the elgibility requirements?

Losing Kasper does hurt. Anzalone stated repeatedly that this was a risky pick but had it panned out, Kasper would have had an immediate impact.

All is not so gloomy, however, because one of the incoming Laker recruits is starting to draw some attention. Eves is featured on hockeyscouting.ca, a pay for service website that writes articles on the best up and coming players. Here is the link (you can only read the first paragraph but it does sound promising)

I too have heard good things about Eves. I hope he can step in and make an impact early.

Hopefully Eves is a young guy who can come in and develop into a solid D-I player. He seems so young, but they must see something in him if they are bringing him aboard.

That article made him sound good, but isn't hockeyscouting.ca a client based site? (ie, Eves's parents are paying hockeyscouting.ca to market him)

I read an article about Malcom Gwilliam (MTU recruit) on there a while back which made the kid sound like the second coming of Gretzky, and I don't remember Gwilliam even cracking the top 150 prospects on Central Scouting.

Only time will tell I guess.

GO LAKERS!!!

It may very well be a client based site but someone who is a subsciriber has told me that they do a pretty decent job in evaluating talent. This is not to suggest that Eves will be a premier player at the D-1 level but rather that he has the potential to develop into a good college player and lets face reality here folks, that is what Lake State has been lacking for the better part of 7 years.

They've been recruiting some younger guys lately in addition to Eves. Rainville and Restoule are both young. They're bringing in some really young guys with potential, now we'll have to see how they develop. But there are no quick fixes on the horizon. The big question this coming season will continue to be, where are the goals going to come from? And perhaps secondarily, how much will the penalty kill improve?

Agreed.

I wasn't trying to sound negative. I'm just trying to bring my hopes/expectations up slowly so I can be pleasantly suprised by people like I was with some of this years freshmen.

How many months left before hockey ? I am anxious to see how well the team conditioned itself over the summer.

sm3pk,

The roads over here aren't that great. Like just about everything else, they don't make them like they used to.

With Kasper being gone, I suspect the Lakers are beating the bushes to see if they can find one more good recruit (forward) before the season starts. I think they are to the point where they won't sign anyone else just from a numbers (of players) standpoint. They kind of did that during the first couple of full recruiting seasons that Frank was back. So presumably anyone else they may sign will be someone who they really feel can help the team.

Bill,I think Frank had no choice his first couple seasons and so much so after his first when half the team left.I think you are also right now in saying he wont just recruit to have the players on the team. They have to have something he needs or he wont sign now.

Colgate fan here...I see we host you guys for two games in our home openers in early Oct. What should we expect from your team? It's been a long time...I think 1990.
