Apparently LSSU has recruited another player from the Eastern Division of the OPJHL. I don't seem to be able to find him on the NCAA recruiting board.... Anybody out there able to confirm or deny...

I would like to see the Lakers sign at least one more forward, preferably a Center with good speed and puck handling skills.

That's the link to the NCAA page that lists signing periods. There's men's hockey right below Women's Gymnastics.......

The Cheisenber site guy posted today that he is working with AOL to clear up the bandwidth issues. If he can't work it out he will find a different way to post recruiting info.

Before the Cheisenber site went down for the day, I saw that defenseman John Nogatch has been added as a fourth Laker recruit. Earlier this year, there were some rumors that the Lakers were looking at someone who could possibly really help them offensively, but this unnamed player had some eligibility issues he was trying to resolve. I'm not sure if this is someone that still may sign with the Lakers or not. I haven't heard anything about him in quite a while.

Are you going to the dinner? If so let us know what you are hearing about next year's team and its recruits.

Thanks

In talking about recruits and what we all think the Lakers need for next season, I think we're over looking something...

Sure, they could use some speed, and they could use a defenseman who can score and lead the plays on ice...

OK, so maybe the goalie is really the only solid position we have...

But I think the key to getting back some of the zip and the fire and the jump is atmosphere.

Think about it, when the Lakers were winning big in the hay-day of the team, the atmosphere was awesome in the rink, even in the Abel... And road games too for that matter.

The last few Laker games I've been to just felt dead.

I honestly think there is a connection to atmosphere and the team's performance

Besides winning and getting the powerplay together, what do you all feel the school, the team and the fans can do to restore the roar to the LSSU atmosphere?

  :D

Some information on two of the new Laker recruits:

Nogatch, Defensman. Big kid, nasty-mean and tough -- and a good pair of hands. Considered a work-in-progress but has the poise and attitude to be a big-time PP QB. Last year with Northern Michigan (St. Ignace) of the NOJHL he played 44 games, with 7 goals, 32 assists, and lead the team with 108 PIM.

Kasper, Forward. 2nd line-center with Ft.McMurray in the AJHL. played 30 games with 13 goals and 12 assts -- and once again a team-topping 167 PIM. Tough kid who never ever quits on plays, is a demon in the corners, and has a very nice shot (or so says my cousin in Ft. McMurray). He is one of only two Ft. Mcmurray players going to the NCAA this season (the other is heading to UAF).

Lakerblue,

The two of them will need to tone down their chippiness until the Laker penalty kill improves.

NMU Doc,

I think it will mainly take winning to liven up the place.

In general, I think a lot of younger fans aren't that interested in sports any more, not just hockey but any sports. Where I live, baseball used to be a big draw, but not anymore. You don't see many families with kids and teenagers at the games any more. Sadly, they'd prefer to stay home and play video games.

Did the UAH games replace the earlier-rumored Bentley games?

Two trips into upState New York -- Colgate could be a good indicator as that was a pretty solid team last year. SLU before the break should be a good Christmas send-off.

I see no Christmas tourney again this year . . . thats too bad.

So the NC games are two CHA teams (UAH and BSU), and two ECAC teams (St.L., Colgate). A little soft.

Michigan State avoids a trip north, but the lakers also avoid a trip to Yost . . . so not bad.

Does anyone know if anyone quit the team now that the season is over and how is Matt feeling now that it looks like maybe he has been replaced as number one starter? Any chance Cgris Gordon may become goalie coach now that he isnt coaching Sault High now?

Personally I've heard nothing except that players are happy and dedicated to a tough summer program and a big season next year.

I remember a quote from a Laker back in the late 80's (possibly Dowd, although I can't attribute it to him because I really don't know for sure). He was asked about playing for such a demanding and difficult coach like Anzalone, the players said (roughly):

"I read a quote last week in the Hockey News by Larry Robinson who was asked a similar question about Scotty Bowman, and Robinson said, 'you hate his guts 364 days out of the year, and on the 365th day you smile and pick up your Stanley Cup championhsip ring.' That is bascially my feeling about Coach (Anzalone). I don't hate him, but he certainly doesn't give you warm feelings. All he does is make you a better player and does whatever it takes to get the team to win."

It was Kremblewski and Kautz who quit the team at Christmas, correct? So with the four seniors that makes six people gone from last year's starting roster, but only two that played a regular shift.

Looking at the final stats there are the sophmores Pelkey and Gibes who played only 8 games between the two of them. I would think they might be having second thoughts about coming back unless they had injuries or whatever that kept them out of the line up.

So is anyone hearing anything about how many, if any, more recruits the Lakers will sign for next season? Something tells me there will be at least one more forward signed.

Looks like I will make the Saturday night game in Omaha. (I wonder why the Sat-Sun series, perhaps a Creighton BB game at the Qwest Center on Fri). Hopefully I can make it to Kalamazoo in February and also catch the NMU game while home for Thanksgiving. No chance of making it to Colgate though......

Here is a question. The INCH website lists goaltender Justin Labrie as having signed a letter of intent to play at LSSU next year. Wasn't he the guy that for whatever reason was supposed to come last year and didn't, which is why we went out and got Jakaitis sort of at the last minute? I don't trust INCH as much as I do USCHO or Cheisenber, so it could just be an error. Anyone know what the deal is?

GO LAKERS!!!

Mogerfan,

Yes, you have it right about Labrie. The Lakers aren't exactly in need of any goaltending help (unless someone is leaving that we don't know about), so this recruiting info does look kind of shakey. The INCH site also fails to show Derek Smith as a recruit, and we know he has committed to Lake State.

Anybody know since they're hosting Bemidji next season, if that will mean they'll be going to Bemidji in 2005-06, or some time in the next few years?
