Final: Bowdoin 1, Gustavus Adolphus 0 SOG GA 25, Bowdoin 23

In a game between No 5 Bowdoin and No 10 Gustavus Adolphus. the Polar Bears prevailed. The first period saw Bowdoin skating hard and controlling the play, for the most part. Though, the best chance came from GA on a near break away from Andrea Peterson when she rang one off the post. The second period was dominated by GA and Bowdoin appeared to be on their heels a bit, though fatigue may have been a factor, being their 4th game in 6 days. The third period was even for the most part with Bowdoin tallying a goal from Marissa O'Neil at the 7:09 mark. Gustavus worked hard for the remainder of the period and were helped by several power play opportunities, but could not get the equalizer. This Gustavus Adolphus team is for real, as evidenced by their play tonight, and earlier victories over Stevens Point and River Falls. All in all, a great game which easily could have gone the other way.

sounds and looks like a great game...HUGE win for Bowdoin and a tough loss for Gustavus...kudos to them for coming out her though and taking on some eastern teams....Hopefully we will continue to see more of this next season as the West and east barely ever play each other except come tourney time and its really a shame....money is the biggest factor and thats a very big factor at the D3 level...also time away from classes probably doesnt help the cause either since D3 schools are supposed to be academics first and athletics second.

Thanks for the PB/GA summary, PB2! It appears that the Bears had, just enough, gas left in the tank to beat a good western team.
'Kudos' to the "Gusties" for representing themselves & the MIAC well and to the PB's for prevailing to conclude a busy, but, successful stretch of games.
Noting that GA, apparently, doesn't have to travel all the way to Williamstown for its game vs. Williams (per the recent "post" about the game being at Nobles' rink ...), I'd have to revise my earlier forecast and predict (for what it's worth not having seen any of these teams in person ...) that GA will knock-off Williams & head-back to the midwest w/ a 2-1 "road-trip" record.
Once again, thanks for this game report and earlier ones about the Polar Bears!

Interesting how there is no talk, anywhere about how Colby gave Gustavus a good game. The only mention I saw was that one poster left GA out of thier rankings because of a bad showing against Colby. Then today what a good team Bowdoin is for beating them during a busy schedule and how good GA is for playing the polar bears tight.

Not saying anyone here has said anything wrong but that no one mentions that it might be possible that Colby played well. I just think it is interesting.

No...I agree completely...the team i saw tonight should have beaten Colby on the order of 7 - 1, or so....Colby has some good sketers....perhaps not enough of them...but a team with the likes of Heather Devito and Kete Sweeney, et al....deserves alot of credit for playing GAC so tough....they are probably the best "bad" team in the country....i.e. their skill level is far better than their record...

Glad to hear it. I was thinking the same.

By the way..I talked with some of the GAC parents tonight, and they were very impressed with Colby...this may be a team coming into their own a bit too late...and Bowdoin faces them at Colby a week tomorrow....

I think that it's evident that Colby's playing better than they were earlier in the season. I guess that I'd like to w/hold judgment on whether a close loss at home to a quality team (GA) is, in fact, an accurate barometer of a "corner being turned" in terms of consistent better play. After all, I assume that the Colby goalie must have played extremely well to keep it a one-goal game while being out-shot 31-10. If Colby can get consistent netminding ( no team can expect its goalie(s) to provide the type of play that the Mules got vs. GA on a night-in & night-out basis{other than Kristen Steele @ Conn ( & even Gabby's proven herself to be somewhat human in certain games this season ...)} and can get some offense generated , also on a consistent basis, then I'd judge them to be a better team than they've shown to date ... Perhaps this weekend's pair of games @ Hamilton might be a better indicator of how the rest of the season will go for the White Mules.
I, for one, would definitely like to see Colby's improvement continue as it's good for them, obviously, but also for the NESCAC and women's hockey in general.

Did GAC play poorly or did Colby play great?
Did Bowdoin play poorly or did GAC play great?
Did Williams play great or did GAC play poorly?

You gotta love this year in D3!!!!

Gustavus was probably pretty tired out after those first two games and didnt come with their best against Williams...not to take anything away from Williams as beating a top 10 team is definitely a good win no matter what the schedule worked out. Williams still has a lot of work to do in NESCAC play and in the tournament if they wanna snatch a Pool C bid here....
