This is a reminder that questions related to policies or decisions concerning the Fan Forum should be addressed to the Forums administrators by email. The Forums are not the appropriate place for these topics.
Earlier Sunday, Jan. 25, an administrator attempted to respond to a user who had written in with a question via the report feature. Upon sending the response, the message bounced due to the user having an invalid email address. As is the policy when invalid addresses are encountered and there is no other way to reach a user, the user's posting privileges were then suspended in order to get their attention and take care of the matter. That process is still underway.
A number of other users then engaged in incorrect speculation concerning the reasons for the suspension and personal attacks. Neither are appropriate topics for the Forums. After removing posts that fell into this category, a couple of people persisted with additional posts, and no choice remained but to suspend their posting privileges in order to stop this. They have been emailed or are being emailed and given an explanation for the suspension along with an opportunity to have it lifted if they agree not to do this again.
We would also like to draw your attention to an issue which has arisen through a number of emails we have received. That issue is thread derailment, which occurs when people make it difficult for others to discuss a topic by jumping in with inflammatory comments and the like. This falls under the anti-flaming portions of the board guidelines and may result in action if necessary. Please do be aware of this.
Thank you for your time and effort to make the Forums a positive environment for all members of the USCHO community!
