So this isn't something they do often.

I wouldn't think so.....like i said they were playing catch up for nearly the entire game....i thought it was foolish to pull her that early. Last night they pulled her toward the end of the second and never put h er back in in the third except when we had a power play. I'm sure they thought they would wear Faechner down....but she's just tooo **** good.

I've seen coaches pull their goalie at odd points in the game before in many levels of hockey, and it never works. It seems to me to be a sign of a desperate team trying everything possible to catch up. From a coaching standpoint, it makes zero sense. It's awkward enought playing with 11 people in the zone, and would only make some semblance of sense if a team practiced it often and had a system to keep control of the puck. I've seen it defended in the past by keeping a defensive player hanging out by the redline. This draws out an attacker and allows the defensive team to throw the puck out of the zone easier without having to worry about icing as much. You see a 6-on-5 defended this way at the end of games sometimes. But, that's just my two cents. Seems like Point was pretty desperate to get at least one win out of the weekend.

I agree Bearcat. This kind of stunt can be demotivating to your team....it sends a message that the coach doesn't think his players have the talent and the character to battle their way back out of a hole. Its always better to focus the team on winning one shift at a time.

You're right hab...it sugests that results mean more than your play as a team....it casts such a negative spin on the game prior to pulling the goalie...very demoralizing.....it's like saying "you obviously can't play with this team 5 on 5...so we'll have to try 6 on 5"...I can see the logic, down by a goal, the season on the line etc....but looking at the box of that game is like being on another planet!!!

It kind of became a joke for the crowd at Wessman. It can't be to invigorating when the crowd is making fun of you. I kind of understood when they pulled her last night....but today it just made no sense....if we would have gotten our empty netters a little earlier....it would have put them away. The coach seemed very stubborn about it.

Thats strange cuz its not comin up there for me. HOw many saves does it say that Faechner had. It sounded like the announcer said at the end of the game that she had 49 saves...but i couldn't hear well...and that sounds like a lot?

Does anyone know how the "three stars" are picked for the boxscores on collegehockeystats.com??

I am looking at the RPI-Holy Cross game boxscore from today and it make NO SENSE at all...

just wondering:)

ooops...never occured to me that UWSP would employ the same strategy in 2 consecutive games...unbelievable.....I was thinking you were referring to yesterdays game......I've been watching and following hockey for nearly 40 years in Canada and the US..I've never seen anything like this.....

those are the three stars that are sent with the "box" to collegehockeystats...the home team sends the box....some teams award "three stars" and some don't....so you'll only see it from arenas that award three stars....

with regards to that goalie situation....very strange...the only thing I remember that even come close is last year MIT played an entire game in which they switched between their two goalies on EVERY STOPPAGE...it was MIT vs. RPI, but I think I remember hearing they had done the same in other games....the big difference here is that UWS and UWSP should be pretty evenly matched teams, or at least competitive teams, so the goalie pulling makes even LESS sense than MIT's.

I was somewhat surprised by the RPI-Holy Cross scores, does anyone know why Bloxson wasn't playing for Holy Cross?
