I am working on calculating RPI. I have a couple of questions for those in the know.

1. What are the weights this year? For the men it is 25%, 50%, 25%. I am assuming for the women that there is no "quality win" bonus.

2. When calculating a team's opponent's win percentage, do you include the teams own record? Here is an example. I am calculating Mercyhurst's opponent's win percentage. They have played two games against Yale, so I add 2 wins, 6 losses, and 3 ties into the Mercyhurst column twice (2 games). Now one of the losses and one of the ties came against Mercyhurst, so do I have to subtract those back out (twice)?

It seems to me that is much easier to include the games against yourself, calculation wise. On the other hand, we are trying to determine the strength of your opponent based on the other games they have played. I know in the overall scheme of things, it makes little difference, but I would like to get it correct.

Two years ago the men's and women's criteria were the same, then the men switched and the women did not.

I'm pretty sure the women's weights were still 35-50-15 last year.

The tournament handbook for this year still hasn't been posted, which is strange.

Women also drop up to four games that hurt RPI in each team's calculation and any postseason games that hurt RPI. I know that's new this year.

RE: question 2, I found this link. Again, it's nothing official.

USCHO definitely does NOT count the games against a team in that team's SOS when it calculates RPI. Whether or not the NCAA does, I don't know.

Thanks for the information, folks. I will be adding RPI (at least my version of it) to my web page next week. Again, it won't be the "Real" RPI, but it should be an educated guess.

Again, thanks for the help.
