Who's left ?
The two at the top of my list would be Ellison from C/E/C and Hagen of Hibbing. Because of my roots, I tend to be partial to those from "up north".

Verbal commitments: Elk River's Erin Olson will make a nice addition to the UMD team next year. I also agree that the 3 SSP players should meet up with their old teammates. Will the name of Mankato Mavericks soon change to Mankato Packers? I think alot of young SSP players from the team will eventually end up down there. :)

Brooky, that's a registration link. Can you give us a synopsis of what the article says???

The article is titled "Packer trio to stick together" and subtitled "South Saint Paul's Fisher, Young, Nelson to sign with Minnesota State (Mankato)

They're having a signing ceromony at 2:00 PM today in the SSP school cafateria. The story notes how incredibly prolific the line has been throughout their career with over 700 points between them...arguably the states best ever.

It all started with Amanda Stohr visiting and subsequently signing with MSU last year. When she returned she told coach Palmquist she "wished she could bring her whole team with her." Unfortunately, Fisher, Young & Nelson were underclassmen at the time. The basic theme throughout the article is that the three had pretty much decided they wanted to continue playing together, where ever that may be. Fisher and Young went on a recruiting trip to UND together. Fisher and Nelson took a trip to SCSU together. Bottom line, they've all played together for a long time & wanted to continue playing together. So today, Amanda Stohr gets what she wishes for. The decision, according to one of the girls was actually made in the car during the drive to Mankato, when someone just said lets all play at MSU & the others agreed. When they arrived they told coach Vizenor they wanted to play there. They asked for a package deal & Vizenor quickly obliged. My opinion, good move on his part.

The article notes how the season started for the SSP girls in their opener last Saturday, Nelson had six points with two goals and four assists. Young had a hat trick, plus two assists for five points. Fisher scored a goal and set up two others in a 9-3 nonconference victory over Fergus Falls.

Could be the next "terrific trio" line playing at MSU.

I'll get to the pre season rankings and players to watch in a subsequent post.

Maybe this link to the full article previously mentioned will work better, if only for a limited time. If not, let me know & I'll delete the post.

Thanks for posting that I was wondering how they were doing, that is pretty good for the first 6 games, you add those three with the young women they have right now and they could have some good years down the road here. Have you heard how Hewitt and Herold are doing at all. GO MAVS!

Great bunch of teams playing in the Schwan Cup Holiday Tournament in 2004. Should be an excellent tournament with many talented players. Worth a trip to the local arena if in the Mpls. / St. Paul metro area & time affords.

Both Blaine & Anoka a little conspicuous in their absence from the girls varsity tournament.

I hope it happens.. but I don't think Cloquet(Esko, Carlton) can defend their title this year. The scoring is coming and we still have the 'class' team up north but I dunno about defending their Schwan's Cup title..

I just looked at the brackets and we (Cloquet) are set up for a rematch of the Stillwater game shutout loss 3-0 on the 13th. That COULD be the game of this whole tournament. Of course that's a longggg month of hockey away.

Stillwater's goaltender is a 4'8" or so 7th grade girl who stoned Cloquet with a quick glove so many times in front of the net it was almost unwatchable as a Cloquet fan. Of course they've still got that one girl who gets 80% of their goals (my bad.. her name slipped my mind again).

I'll be getting home from a DRIVE to Kansas for Christmas the day of the 2nd round at Mariucci(first round at Ridder, top of bracket 2nd round at Mariucci).. so I won't see anything except maybe the championship game if they get to it for the Blue division.

One thing I'm not sure of.. do the Division winners play each other after or are there just divisional champions and that's it?

The Maple Grove thanskgiving tournament starts tonight, btw, and We (Cloquet) get a chance at revenge over Burnsville if both teams win first round games there.

Cloquet plays Hopkins and Burnsville plays Maple Grove, so I'm set to say Cloquet/Burnsville for that 'championship.' The first Cloquet/Burnsville game here in Cloquet was the opener for both teams I believe and Cloquet was doing major tinkering with their top 2 lines. Now with their top 2 lines basically set I think they'll win and defend this tournament, and not just cause I live here :)

I hate to sound like an a---hole but HOW many *good* teams have they played *this* year now? I know they're a "cities" team but in their 7 games.. they've only played ONE good opponent, Stillwater on Tuesday night and lost 4-3. Before the Stillwater game, they'd outscored opponents 53-8.

I still am disappointed they're not on the Cloquet schedule this season..

They lost to Stillwater 5-4 in OT. It was an excellent HS hockey game to watch. Two good teams with Stillwater being better than I expected. You're right about SSP's strength of schedule, or lack thereof thus far. I'm going to go out on a limb & predict those three continue to score well throughout their schedule, which is about to become more challenging, regardless of opponents. Time will tell...but my opinion is collectively they're the best line in the state.

You're earlier comments regarding Stillwater's 7th grade goaltender vs. Cloquet apply to the SSP game as well. She was a huge factor in their win with many big saves against SSP's top line. That line consistently creates more quality scoring chances than any girls high school line I've ever seen personally.

The Stillwater player you're referring to (who gets 80% of their goals) is Chelsey Jones, but she's not required to supply that percentage of their offense this season due to a better supporting cast. One is another 7th grader Kristina King who had the hat in the SSP game. Jones will still score goals...she tied the game with just over 30 seconds to go in regulation vs. SSP. It was King with the game winner in OT.

Cloquet beat Hopkins 5-0 and Burnsville beat Maple Grove 2-0 setting up the rematch Saturday at 3:15 pm. I'd like to get to Maple Grove but the weather won't be quite good enough.. icy trip home from St. Cloud tonight.

I'm stayin home and goin to the DECC to watch UMD/OSU women instead of the UMD men gettin swept in St. Cloud.

In Minnesota high school holiday hockey tournament action, two top ranked class A teams, Benilde-St. Margaret's & Warroad battled to a 3-3 tie in the championship game which was ultimately settled by a shootout after a scoreless overtime. Benilde-St. Margaret's won the shootout. Highlights—Gisele Marvin had a hat trick to rally Warroad to a tie. Sarah Windhorst stopped 42 shots for the BSM Red Knights. Gisele "Gigi" Marvin has signed a national letter of intent to play for Minnesota in 2005-06.
