There will be a lot of good senior forwards in the state next year. Obviously, they won't all go to Minnesota.
Hearing of that sure would wreck my day...gawd I hope I never see that happen.
:D it was just too easy.. I had to post that after seeing your Ellison and also your "Mad Cow" posts

Jones is a defenseman and would be a perfect replacement at UMD for Krista McArthur when she graduates.. and a great position to come into with 3 senior defensemen that seeason. If I remember right.. the Gophers will have defense turnover in 2 years?
brookyone would know better, but Jones was playing center when I saw her. Yes, the Gophs have four D who are juniors. There are one or two juniors currently playing the blueline for Minnesota high schools that I wouldn't mind seeing don maroon and gold. But I trust the staff will find talent somewhere. They've done alright over the years.

I'd just like to see Shannon Miller "steal" some of the cities talent.. who knows.. It's the same 2 years for Allison Lehrke's sister Meghan and she did play a nice game on defense for Holy Angels in the tournament this afternoon.
Just saw Ben Smith interview.. already talking about Cloquet's Sadie Lundquist.. 8th grader, who played the first line from about the opening game of the season this year. Her parents are like a "Hockey Factory," all their kids end up in the state tournament at least once. Her brother plays in the section final Thursday night at the DECC against either Forest Lake or Duluth East. Don't have a scoring update on the East/Forest Lake game since 710 shuts us out at sundown here.

Don't know why Chelsey Jones is always...has always been listed as D. She's always played forward when I've seen her play...probably nearly forty games over the last three seasons. Another 8th grader to watch, Jones linemate Callie Dahl. Good first period for SSP eh ? Wayzata doesn't seem to be moving the feet as well as I've seen them in the past.

Someone tell that Wayzata goaltender to COVER the puck.. or 'jump on it' or something.. if they swarm Johanna tomorrow night like they are this game it's gonna be interesting.. that's how Centennial scored on her Thursday. I definitely see overtime in SSP/CEC future (even though it's still 5 minutes left in 2nd period of SSP/Wayzata)
ok.. it's all set up.. and even though it's obvious Cloquet will be an 'underdog',' the game's gotta be played :D

I believe we'll be witness to a little Minnesota girls high school hockey history as well. Ashley Young currently at 103 pts., Maggie Fisher currently at 102 pts., Felicia Nelson currently at 99 pts. I read an article earlier this week that there has never been a 300 pt. line, or more precisely, a line with all three having 100 pts. I have a feeling we'll see that materialize tomorrow night.
Any Maverick fans that may have been able to see Young/Fisher/Nelson play for the first time ? Thoughts ?

Unless they get shutout.. she'll get her 100th point.... not a 'Mad Cow' fan myself and only second time i've seen them play (season opener last season).. They skated circles around Wayzata from what I saw..was remote control flipping tonight (watched the UMD men drop another game they had 2 goal lead in against Denver (4th time in a row against Denver.. also))

I would have liked to but we don't get channel 45 in Mankato. I did catch a few highlights. Just looking at last names on the SSP boxscore it appears they have some Maverick siblings, Stohr and Miller.

don't tell "Brooky" that  :D
5-1 SSP wins state tournament. Cloquet didn't get any production out of their 2nd and 3rd lines like they DID get in the playoffs until the championship game. .. SSP was amazing.. but I heard a rumor (didn't hear it on tv) that they're dropping to class A next year?????? Are their U12 and U14 numbers down that much?? I guess I figure with all their success, they might have a ton of girls wanting to play.
Look for Cloquet to return to the tournament next year, as was witnessed at the tournament.. they're young and have a huge upside. Paige Thunder is a more than descent goaltender, and plays the rebounds well, and has a lot of size. As long as they 'tweek' their system and play more offense next year they'll be playin at 'The X' next February.
OK.. now.. Bring on the "Goofers" "UMTC" "Yellow Rats" and all the other references to the Main U I can think of :D :D I see they got 2194 'paid' at Mariucci against 'Mad Cows'.. I guess I figured more people from the Class A game might visit the game after their game. Have to admit if I coulda got down for the Class AA final, of course I'd check out the U Women's game first.. even though I'd never "root/route(whichever)" for them :p

SSP is dropping down to 1A. Jeez, lose your big guns to graduation & immediately drop to 1A to enhance your chances of making the state tourney...a chickenexcrement thing to do in my opinion. Heaven forbid the poor poor SSP girls should have to face the possible reality of a down season or two after player turnover...like everybody else. If we can't dominate in 2A we'll just take our team to the small pond...what a load of...and a fine life lesson to be teaching your student athletes.
Since once again we've taken a detour from that UMD fan advocated "high road", allow me to respond, I'm ready for the Goondogs !!! Even with the regular season title already decided. Anyone want to speculate at what point of the 2nd period the Goondogs make the goaltending change next weekend ? :D :D I'm just hoping I don't forget to bring my boxes of d-con and rat traps to place around my seat next weekend. :D :D Should stick to matters of HS hockey in this thread IMO.

I'm aware of the Miller & Stohr siblings. Not to offend anyone, but if they wish to attend and play for MSU, that's fine by me.

Yeah.. I know.. stick to high school.. I just had to get one post in :) I know hearing the pregame on the radio b4 the game tonight they couldn't figure out why you go to state every year and still drop down.. but who knows.. watch them not even make it to the Class A tourney next year.
I'll bring the UMD/UMTC stuff next door to the UMD thread

Seems SSP, and the Mavericks have something of a monopoly on Players of the Year. Here's the Pioneer Press POTY pick...

Ellison named the AP Player of the Year in Minnesota:

A couple of apparent additions to this US selects roster. One a current junior and linemate of the recently named Ms. Hockey Gigi Marvin, Warroads Holly Roberts who figures to be one of the states top seniors next season. Also, from the state tournament championship runners up Hibbing / Chisholm, senior Kayla Hagen, who will play for the Wisconsin Badgers next season.
