What I thought was an interesting article regarding Minnesota girls high school hockey and hockey tournament origins as well as a "where are they now" article involving some of the standout pioneers of girls high school hockey.

Duluth newspaper reports CEC/Centenial tied at 1 after 2.

Update: 2-1 CEC sometime in the 3rd . . . (they're just showing the score, nothing else!).

The Kelly Kegley mentioned in the 2 St. Paul Pioneer Press articles provided by Brookyone is the older sister of Erin Kegley who is a sophomore at UW-Superior.

FUN game.. a little stressfull, but now makes me really wish I could get down there Friday and Saturday as well.

The last 2 seconds was the dumbest thing I've ever seen. We (Cloquet) missed the open net from behind the red line which shoudl be called icing. The Ref waves it off as it goes through part of the crease and hits the side of the net. AFTER Cloquet's mobbed Ellison and the teams have started to shake hands, the other Referee stops the handshakes and talks to both coaches saying they messed up and need one more faceoff with 2 seconds left. They made the right call but dang, state tournament officials are the 'cream of the crop," and still blew that one?

Ellison played a good game.. though in the 2nd period had one go through her arm and almost in, then missed a "flutter puck" 20 seconds later that almost found the post. Other than that she handled everything thrown at her and some major scrums in front of the net both the 2nd and 3rd period.

I'm curious how the last minute sounded on the radio up here, as Scott tends to get almost as excited as Kerry when doin the game.

Cloquet/SSP Saturday I hope.. since there was no regular season matchup I'm still gonna say 4-2 SSP or 2-1 (overtime) Cloquet..... hopefully Cloquet

ONE MORE THING: I ***HATE*** Ridder Arena. Terrible sitelines etc and the only way to actually SEE the game is standing along the railings or up in the press box/private boxes. I'll take the DECC over Ridder any day. At least you can see the game and you don't gotta walk halfway around the arena (usually) for a concession stand. Oh and no 'Kudos' to the Papa John's pizza people, who ran out of pizza before the 1st period even started for the noon game, and then ran out 4 minutes into the second period. The lack of daytime parking I can deal with, the Washington ave. ramp is nice place to park even for a 4(or 5?) block walk.

:D

You're in Duluth area right? all 3 Cloquet games, whether they win or lose are broadcast on either AM 1230 OR FM 96.5. AM 1230 almost positive Friday and 96.5 Saturday night because the BOYS get the AM dial Saturday afternoon at 4:30. Is KBJR/UPN pickin up the Friday/Saturday games for hte girls tournament? I couldnt' find it on the net and don't have a tv guide.

Northern Minnesota girl honored by hockey publication
Associated Press
February 17, 2005 HOCKEY0218
Johanna Ellison of Cloquet-Esko-Carlton has been named Senior Goalie of the Year for girls hockey, Let's Play Hockey newspaper announced Thursday.

Ellison will be honored at a banquet Sunday, when the Ms. Hockey award will also be announced. She started for the Lumberjacks as a seventh-grader and was a first team All-State selection by The Associated Press as a sophomore and a junior.

Ellison is headed to Boston College next fall. She brought a .954 save percentage and a 1.23 goals-against average for Cloquet-Esko-Carlton in this weekend's state tournament.

The Semifinal games **ARE** on UPN 9 at least via Mediacom, presumably charter etc also.. up north :)

Kayla Hagan just got stoned on a breakaway by alexandria goaltender.. tied in OT 1-1, and now Alexandria got a huge scoring chance.. Wish I'd thought to check the tv when the game started.

Game over..Hibbing wins. Hagan scores on a 2 on 1.

Very nice overall game by Hagen. Hit a crossbar earlier, then buried the gamewinner just after being denied on a nice rush in OT.

Still kickin myself for not turning the TV on earlier.. though the 2 pm Benilde game should be fun to watch.. cause I've never seen them play.. I'll get to see about 2/3 of the game.

oooops? haha just an obvious reaction after their many years, hadn't paid any attention to the Class A bracket... AKA Brain Fart

Just got a Metro Edition of the Star Trib.. front page shows Centennial goaltender.. but then you gotta go all the way to page 12 of the Sports to see any of the 'coverage' of the tournament.

The good news is that they had two reporters there, as opposed to the "from news services" briefs they usually run for college games.

AHA vs. New Prague; Winner: AHA in a barn burner
Not quite the 'barn burner" I predicted. AHA impresses me again as they did during the Schwan Cup. I believe they're going to be a handful for Hagen & crew in the final and to be totally honest, I think the accuracy of my championship prediction could be in jeopardy. We'll see, as is often the case in close games, that marquee player frequently makes the difference...as was the case in the Hibbing / Alex game. Kayle Hagen is quite a player. Should be a great final.

Should also mention, after watching the AA quarterfinals, Wayzata may not be quite the longshot as I initially thought in their semi matchup with SSP.

Cloquet lost to Wayzata 2-1 back in january.. assuming (yeah yeah.. i know what happens when you assume :D )Cloquet holds the 2 goal lead they have right now.. EITHER team they will play Saturday will be a great game
