Bumping up the 2A brackets as section play progresses. Should be some excellent games this week starting Tuesday. I believe the lower bracket in section two that shows the St. Paul Blades advancing over Roseville is incorrect...I think Roseville's the winner there.

Some big games coming up in section play tonight. Section 3AA offers an opportunity to see three or four top players at one venue. Same could probably be said for each section.

Walpole is playing a JV schedule this year.

Their league (Bay State) has a number of JV teams. Including Framingham, Needham, Wellesley, and Newton North. I believe the only league member not participating at any level is Weymouth.

No kidding? Wow, to have those kind of numbers in Burlington would be great. Stinkin' cheerleading frenzy! What good are National Championships in cheerleading?

MIAA

Boston Globe Rankings

Woburn 15-0-0
Boston Latin 12-2-0
Dedham 10-1-1
Wakefield 10-1-0
Austin Prep 10-1-1
Wellesley 13-1-0
Canton 11-1-0
Mt St Joes 11-2-0

Goalies - Garnett, St Mary's 9-8 0.89, Teixeira, Wakefield 10-9 0.90, Sweeney Dedham 12-13 1.08

Rankings are of course open to question. IMHO, Top ISL team is Nobles, Lawrence # 2. But, their play-off's include New Englands real # 2 Berkshire, and Cushing and Pomfret.

IMHO, MIAA - Woburn #1, Austin # 2 Boston Latin and Dedham tied for #3.
BL with the edge in scoring, Dedham in net. After that, there is a pack of quality teams.

Has anyone heard of any new HS teams being added for next year? Currently there are 52. With nearly 350 cities and towns, and untold numbers of parochial and vocational schools, I would think that we would be seeing at least a few new teams added each year. Franklin moved up to Varsity status this year after being "club" for a few years. Some have conjected that this did not happen sooner because it would have resulted in Deb Spillane moving off the Boy's team, where she excelled (and is now one of the top freshmen in Hockey East @ BC!)
Good thread!

Here's the brackets for the big show, both 1A & 2A. A few surprises in 2A section play resulting in some unexpected state tournament entrants...perhaps.

Very interesting to me that Benilde got knocked out in their semifinal, though they only had one senior this year, I'd bet $$ they'll return next year.

I've never heard of Wright County Blades.. who do they consist of?

Looking at the Bracket for AA.. if they both play like they're capable of.. could see a rematch of the 2003 Cloquet/SSP title game, which would be a nice sendoff for Hakala and Ellison's last games.

Wright County is a co-op of 7 (?) schools. Next year, I think they split into two different teams. Buffalo is one, IIRC.

The SSP side of the bracket figures to be more difficult. But it is always hard to predict; there were quite a few #1 seeds knocked out in sections.

My picks:

1A
Alexandria vs. Hibbing/Chisholm; Winner: Hibbing/Chisholm

AHA vs. New Prague; Winner: AHA in a barn burner

AHA vs. Hibbing/Chisholm; Winner & Champ: Hibbing/Chisholm in another barn burner

3RD place; New Prague over Alex in a blowout

2A
C/E/C vs. Centennial; Winner: C/E/C with Ellison the difference maker

Wright County vs. Rochester Mayo; I'll go with Wright County

Wayzata vs. CDH; Winner: Wayzata (Should be an excellent game)

Anoka vs. SSP; Winner: SSP

SEMI
C/E/C vs. Wright County; Winner: C/E/C

Wayzata vs. SSP; Winner: SSP

FINAL
C/E/C vs. SSP; Winner: SSP (Not as close as their last AA title matchup)

3RD place; Wayzata over Wright County

CONS. Anoka over Centennial

I'll say for the championship game.... hate to pick someone to Beat Cloquet though. IF we (Cloquet) win it'll be another 2-1 game (2 OT.. maybe 3).. otherwise SSP 4-2. Look out in the next few years.. there's some goal scorers for CEC who will be around for a while, the questions are goaltending and defense. From what I hear there's a relatively large number of girls in the U-12 program this year who hopefully will keep playing in the years to come.

The Strib's 2005 All Metro selections, Metro POTY and honorable mentions. You can click the picture in the first link for an enlargement. Also a link to past "Metro Player of the Year" recipients.

The 2005 Star Tribune All-Metro girls' hockey team was selected primarily on ballots returned by 30 metro-area coaches.

This is the first time one team has had three players on the All-Metro first team. All three members of South St. Paul's first line made it.

While it will be a few days before we know the answer to the 2005 Ms. Hockey question, it appears the Mavericks have already rudely :p interrupted one long standing tradition by grabbing the "Metro Player of the Year" recipient...right out of the Gophers backyard.

Well, as per my earlier post with tournament picks, my prediction is they're ultimately going to be instrumental in the demise of all their tournament opponents. I hope for Johanna's sake C/E/C plays better in front of her than they did vs. NSP in the Schwan Cup. I think SSP can "bring it" stronger...substantially stronger than NSP...assuming both make the final of course. Watch out for Centennial. Although I didn't think they looked particularly strong in section play and they don't seem to have any "stars" on their team, they did surprise everybody and beat the #1 & #2 seeded team in their section.

It should be fun.., though I'm only goin down to watch Thursday's game.. can't go Friday/Saturday because of other commitments. Is ANY part of the state tournament televised? Last time C/E/C played in the tournament I was down there and don't remember if it was televised or not then.

KSTC, sister station to KSTP (Hubbard Broadcasting) is televising the semi finals and finals I believe. In the metro KSTC is known as KSTC45, Channel 45 although it's actually broadcast on channel 12 on my cable system (which may vary from one cable system to another of course). Should be great games. Hope the broadcast is statewide.
