The updated list of scoring leaders in Minnesota girls high school hockey. A little late this week due to some statistical errors for some players, now corrected...

MagicHound Any updates on the Mississauga Tournament?
Another source of information is http://www.network54.com/Forum/283026
This is a forum that cover womens hockey in Ontario. As the teams and players go home more information will be posted. All the scores are posted along with other information.
WOW.. I guess I didn't miss too much not being home the past week.. Cloquet went 1-2 and got 'smoked' by North 6-1, beat Hill Murray .. and lost to Benilde 2-1.. darn..
Once again.. the Brackets are at http://www.superrink.org/schwan_cup/schedules.html and have been filled in/updated as far as I can tell.... I am curious if anyone watched.. and if Hakala played after her injury 2 weeks ago.

I understand that the Woburn High team is stacked with talent, including several D1 prospects (Colleen Sanborn being one), and could again run the table in Massachusetts.
They are probably as good a pick as any to take it all again.
Sanborn is a D 1 prospect, as is Martin, a junior defencemen.
Sanborn is dedicated to hockey and a very hard worker. She has spent time working with current, and former National Team members. She probably holds the record for most games played in the Northeast Womens HL and will adjust well to the more physical college/mid-west game.
Martin has interest in other sports, and has turned down prep school transfer opoortunities. She needs to add some muscle if hockey is going to be her chosen sport. She has great feet, and is a real good kid to have around.

Sounds like Elk River was battered by a severe "Thunder" storm.

The Kaposia Classic holiday tournament ends with a matchup between the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the state for the title. SSP appears on a mission to improve on last seasons disappointing (for them) season, and gains a little revenge in the process.

6 weeks until the State Tournament.. any predictions? I don't know if Cloquet can return to the tournament after a year away, given the lack of scoring lately. Duluth Denfeld/Central might end up at the state tournament this year under first year coach Shawna Davidson.
I don't know that much about Section 2AA but will South St Paul go again?

Myself, I see SSP as a pretty clear favorite in AA to win it all again this season. They've beaten top teams Wayzata, Blaine, Eden Prairie and North all fairly handily. Since their early loss to Stillwater they've clearly turned it up a notch...or two. The future Maverick line (if kept intact) is playing exceptionally well but the Packers are getting quite a few points out of 2nd / 3rd lines too. A pretty deep team.
In class A, which I know less about, my guess is Hibbing, Warroad, BSM, C/E/C are all contenders...perhaps New Prague too, and others I may not be aware of...My pick, I think it's Hibbing this year.
It's been pretty interesting watching the see saw battle for top scorer between Marvin, Hagen, Keseley & the SSP girls. I think alot of HS hockey fans view this as closely resembling the battle for the Ms. Hockey award as well.
C/E/C has always been an AA school in the past. I think BSM is the favorite to repeat in A, but they have a tough section with Holy Angels and Blake to name a couple. It is probably SSP's tourney to lose again in AA.

CEC will always be an AA team as long as Bartholdi is coach (maybe 1 more season after this year at most).. most of us here hope the program stays AA.. though overall numbers up here in the north aren't as high in the schools etc.. with jobs being limited as they are

The "Mavs" would be udderly (ok.. bad, but they did pick beef for a mascot) stupid to separate that line.. at least the first year.. keep them together and see what they can do at the next level.. we could see Mankato in the NCAA's with them together.
I haven't seen Hibbing play, but it seems they're always making the trip down hwy 53 to 33 to 35S... There's only 5 Class A sections.. correct?

Yeah, I don't know why I always think of them as single A, especially having watched them against SSP & other double A teams in the tourny. I'm curious as to the enrollment of Cloquet/Esko/Carlton co-op. Is it a single A size per enrollment ?
Also, I should have included Roseville on the "good teams SSP has beaten" list.
The MSHSL website lists our Cloquet 10-12 grade enrollment at 562, ESKO as 266, and Carlton as 170. Total of 998 10-12 grade students. I don't know if they use k-12 (I don't know the K-12 numbers)for making decisions or the 10-12 that they have listed for schools on the website. My senior class 12 years ago at Cloquet was somewhere around 140-150 .. it really fluctuates per decade around here.. right how the avg age in Cloquet is close to 50 I believe.
We've had the 'oppurtunity' to move down in basketball etc.. but they said they would have to move down in hockey as well and that wouldn't go over well in this town. We have a large industrial area opening north of town off of Hwy 33 that should help bring the population back up at least somewhat when it starts employing people.

Update of leading scorers as of 1/10/05. Will anyone break the 100 pt. barrier ? SSP sharpshooter Ashley Young apparently out for awhile with an injury.

Some nice exposure for the women's game in the other hockey hotbed, Massachusetts. This from an article that appeared in the Boston Sunday Globe.

And I think tomorrow is the first day rankings and stats will be out for hockey in the Bay State.
