I heard she was a good player. Can you compare her to any of this years freshmen for an example. Is she "rare" to the tune of Lindsay Wall?

Palazeti played boys hockey in Calgary. Calgary Minor hockey would not permit the underage players play NWHL. On the X-Treme, players that are underage have come from out of the city or rare grandfathering. Hopefully this is changing but there has been a total lack of exposure for some of those Calgary players, like Kaley Hall who is now on the U22 team. Taylor P like Kaley is a goal scorer and loves to set up a teammate when the goalie is forced to make the impossible save. ie she has lots of assists.

IMO she is a player that is not like 80% of the Div I players she will be in the top 10%. I expect you will all know her name but she isn't a person who seeks the limelight in anyway. I am only posting this because I said UNH fans should be happy and I will stand behind my prediction. I am not going to post about her until the end of next season, if then.

Not trying to be negative about this young lady but was she at the Canada games last year? Alberta did not have a great week and not to many players stood out. Actually I think it was there worst finish.

She was in New Brunswick for the games but I was not so I cannot comment. I serioulsy doubt her performance impacted Alberta's dissapointing final standings.

They may have had their worst finish but the word that came out of the tourney was that Alberta's talent was in the top three alongside Ontario & Quebec.

Six players from that Team are playing NCAA Div 1 this year with 2 more so far committed for next year and likely more to come.

No all I'm saying is that the Crosby kid was dominate still at the Canada games even with a bad team and I think this young lady had four points in the tournament. Yes I agree on paper there was high expectations from the Alberta team that for what ever reason did not show.

My 4 kids are 2 D 1G and 1F and I am Canadian. This may explain my reaction to equating stats to quality of players. I notice that for some persons, hockey and sport in general is all about stats. Hook&hold may know more than the stats.

I totally agree that stats never tell the tale. I posted them to show that there were no runaway players on the Alberta team and that the scoring appears to be well spread out. I have seen Taylor play once and I was impressed, particularly with her work ethic.

What I was trying to bring to this person attention was that you should not rate a player as a player like the Crosbie kid because it adds alot of pressure on them, and also that there was maybe one or two kids that stood out at the Canada games that I can remember who would maybe be close in women's hockey and I have not heard that name of this girl before.

Congrats to Palazetti and UNH. I have seen the kid play and it would be a understatement to say she is nothing less than the female version of "rare" like a gem.

I think that the only player in this year's recruiting class that I would even dare to compare with Sidney Crosby would be Sarah Vaillancourt.

That being said, I think Taylor Palazetti has all the tools to be a very solid Division 1 player. From a pure skills perspective, she certainly would rank high in this year's recruiting class.

The one kid from Alberta in this year's recruiting class who I think has superstar potential at the Division 1 level is Tia Hanson. Any idea what colleges she is looking at?

Let's be honest, Sarah Vaillancourt, Tia and Taylor are great players but they had a weak division at the CWG. Stats that they did have mostly came from 26-0 and 18-0 games. Ashley Riggs and Meaghon Agusta who played for Ontario are the ones who showed well when the money was on the line. Ontario was told to hold back on scoring against weaker clubs. Sarah did not dominate and I'm not even sure if she even got a point in the championship game. Ontario defence was to strong. Don't get me wrong these are great players but they are not players like a Crosbie.

on that alberta team, the top 3 goal scorers scored all their points against Yukon...Mikkelson had 6 or 7 points in that game, and the bottom line is that their top line didnt show up for any of the games in that tournament except for the blowout against Yukon. And stop comparing these girls to a Sidney Crosby. There is not one girl in Canada or the states that stands out and dominates like he does, so lets not get ridiculous on these comparisons. These girls havent played a game of college yet, why dont we just wait and see what happens when they step up to the next level.

Afraid I don't know anything about the C W Games but I do agree about the stats issue. the defenders who get all the accolades seem to be the Ruggers, Bredins, etc. who score the most points. not that they aren't deserving but somehow there should be a category for defensive players pertaining to defense (e.g. the WNBA has a defensive player of the year award). Someone has to mind the fort while those players who are rushing up ice and crashing the net! defensive-oriented forwards are often key players who get overlooked as well.

I am enclined to agree with you. At this point you just have to let these girls get to College and see what they do there. I think it would be an understatement to say that things get alot harder once you get to the D-1 level.
If you could pull up the press releases from last year on every college, you would see that the compliments the Coaches give their recruits say pretty much the same thing each year.
I don't think you will ever hear a college coach come out and compare a female to Crosby. Besides, we have our own game. l If you are gonna compare females make them comparable. Let's say like to Granato, Potter Wendell and even a few of the Canadian women. ect....

At about this point in the season, the "typical" freshmen start to look a little more comfortable on the ice. At first, it looks like everything happens a little quicker than they are expecting and the puck or the opening are gone just before they get there. Also, the players they go up against are much stronger than those to whom they are accustomed. By typical, I mean those who do not have a lot of experience playing international or high level boys hockey.

Also, I've seen the sophomores make a big jump in play in the last few weeks. It seems they have to think less and can react quicker to what they see.

From the WCHA website:

Ohio State has announced that Shelby Aldous from the Windors Wildacts in Ontario has signed a NLI.

From the write up, she was on the Ontario Provincial team for the Canada Winter Games.
