I will venture to say that 99.9% of Shattuck graduates go on to college, and to top colleges. Not everyone is there for hockey; many are there for the arts and just the education. There is a high percentage of students from Japan and Korea and other countries that have no interest at all in hockey, just a top notch education. Yes, traveling and keeping up the academics provides excellent time management and life skills. My daughter was way more prepared for college and hockey than many other incoming freshmen. She was also enrolled in the honors program at her college and was at the top of the class compared to those coming from public high schools. Yes, it is a college prep school with emphasis on education. She recieved a much better education and was challenged far more than she was in her previous public high school. She was recruited by the Ivies, the near Ivies and the "little Ivies". For us, financially, we couldn't pull it off. The scholarship made more sense.

I have no idea how Shattuck compares to the eastern preps, but I know it is an exccellent school.

Feel free to start a SSM thread if this discussion is going to go on much longer. Otherwise, it gets tough to find the signings amidst the commentary.

ARM- sorry but I need to make one a couple more comments.

Ms. "H" - tell "M" we love her and miss her and we are proud of her keep up the good work at Brown.

BEAR- Hope you and yours are doing well also.

Dagies- thanks for the Info.

MattJ171- If you are going to add something to a thread, have some manners and make it constructive. It is never "Easy" to make it to Nationals. Shattuck is there because they are good. They have to beat teams in order to advance just like every one else in the Country.

Topshelf- look at what OBJECTIVEFACTS wrote and you will get the jist of my whole point. Just add that Hockey does not begin and end in the Ivy's, and middle of the road students can make it in college. Are you related to thumbtack???

THUMBTACK-
15 current D-1 players (Women) (16th on the way)
7 current D-1 players (Men)
4 NHL draft picks this past June
1 player currently on the Mens 2 time NCAA Championship Tm
3 MIDGET AAA National Championships.(Boys)
5 Semi Final appearances at Nationals (Girls)

Only down fall about these stats according to THUMBTACK is there aren't enough IVY league players coming from the school? Tell the College Coaches who have Shattuck players on their rosters about Shattuck's academic reputation. or maybe you know more than they do about College recruiting.?
"It is better to READ these posts and APPEAR DUMB, than to hit the letters on your key board and REMOVE ALL DOUBT.

Again sorry ARM

Comment away. I'm not the thread police, and I'd much rather have people post in the "wrong" place than not post at all.

One note here: Jubinville and Sales are current Bulldogs not, as the article states, "former".

Dont know if this has already been on here, but I would like to keep this posting going, so here it is:

To Minnesota State Mankato

1: Kristina Bunker F (Blaine HS)
2: Amanda Stohr F (South St. Paul HS)
3: Kerri Wallace D (Calgary Oval X-Treme)
4: Britni Kehler G (St. Adolphe's)

Two of the better forwards in Minnesota, one of the best goalies in Canada (represented Team Manitoba) and a highly skilled D in Wallace that signed last year but didnt come and now is coming. Sounds like a great class!!

It appears that there has not been a lot of early signing activity out of the East.
Is this typical?
Do the West teams generally do a lot more early signings?
If so, why?

I think they sign just as many early out east as they do in the west but they do not make it as public as the West. I know that UNH has signed at least 4 girls and they have not said who they are yet.

CONGRATS goes to UM, UMD, and UMM for signing some fantastick classes.

SSP line for the UM--that would be pretty cool...

ARM--I know it's inevitable that SSP loses sometime again, but do they even know how? The talent that that school has is deadly scary for all MN high schools again.

On the Gophers...they look really good again.

The early decision for Ivy schools is delivered in the beginning of December for regular freshmen. Because of the financial need of families, some players need to know earlier so they can consider the scholarship alternatives. Although I believe the coaches and recruits may know the admission info, I expect it may not be public until December officially.

Good recruits are still coming for visits.

In the relatively short history of MN girls HS hockey, there have been some schools that have cranked out more than their share of D-I players. Blaine had Jody Horak, Tiffany Hagge, Krista Johnson, Kristina Bunker, Andrea Jensrud; Bloomington Jefferson produced Bethany Petersen, Larissa Luther, Sharon Cole, and Ali Lehrke; Roseville provided the Brodts, the Curtins, Kelly Olson, and Autumn Conway. In the latter case, the Curtins were stars at a young age, so they helped make Rosevile a contender for years.

SSP is similar. They made it to state with a first line of Nelson/Young/Fisher when all were in 8th grade. So even though they have graduated players like Ashley Albrecht, Liz Funk, and Sammy Miller, they have returned a talented nucleus year after year.

Ashley Deeley (F, 5-11, Hamilton, Ont.) Stoney Creek Sabres

Ashley King (5-4, F, Winnipeg, Man.) Miles MacDonell Collegiate

Danielle Wilson (5-5, D, Gravenhurst, Ont.) Toronto Aeros

If anyone can give us insight to them, we'd appreciate it.

I'm kinda surprised that an earlier post that Taylor Palazetti has commited to UNH did not garnish any responses. That kid would rank as among the best 12th grade hockey players in any State or Province and I'm sure was recruited by every Div I program. It's rare in boys or girls hockey to see someone with so much talent - in addition, she has a good work ethic and likes to compete. UNH fans will be ecstatic a year from now.

I have not seen her play and wish her all the best at UNH. Yet, your commnet about talent, work ethic and likes to compete fits about 80% of the players already in D1.

I agree most D-1 players are talented & hard working but I used the word "rare" because you don't see many kids this talented. I mentioned her other attributes because many skilled players tend to play a "relaxed" game (i.e. Jagr, Lemieux) and don't seem to compete shift in & shift out.

I'm sure 80% of the players in the QMJHL are also talented and hard working also but most would agree that Sydney Crosby is a "rare" talent - that's the type of skill I'm speaking of.
