Spoken like a homer zamboni driver. Please re-read my comments. The "true talent" comment was directed at Ribble, the "luck in the Ohio State game" comment (I haven't seen her enough to comment otherwise) was referring to Clark. Besides, the entire comment was complimenting the Laker defense which I think is awesome! Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers Daddy-o!

What's your deal? You compliment the defense ... well last I seen the goaltender is an integral part of the D. If indeed they were bad angle shots what's a goalie to do...all you can do is stop what comes your way. Everything I've seen says M-Hurst is a top ten team from top to bottom.
And lay of MicZ... I enjoy his updates (even those of us rooting against them, like Wayne State)

Same as with T-Bone last year, very little true talent, just good "D" in front of her.
Well, I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt so I reread your post. I was right, you are an idiot. Same as with T-Bone to me means Desi is like T-Bone. By the way, T-Bone was invited to the National Team for practices and tryouts before the last Olympics. Not bad for a girl with very little true talent. T-Bone had many compliments from the Olympians on her talent. Your goalie had a better game because she was facing shots all day long. The zamboni driver didnt even have to cut one end of the ice after the 3rd period was over.
Sounds like their are issues you are dealing with that need to be addressed. Mercyhurst is 2-0 this year over the Ohio State Univ. Mens and womens teams own you.
Your team was outplayed, outshot, outcoached and beat today.
Believe me, I am not shouting. I am laughing.

I made the trip up to Erie on Saturday to watch the game as I was expecting an entertaining game. Overall was not disappointed.
I agree with your assessment of the game in all facets except one. I thought OSU out played the Lakers the entire first period not just the first 10 minutes The Lakers were clearly the better team in the second and third periods. Don't know what happened to the Buckeyes, how they can play so well in then first and then nothing as a team in the second and third. Was impressed with the Lakers and how they continue to come at you and I think a big part of what happened to OSU was them buckling from the continuous pressure applied by the Lakers. A few of the Lakers that caught my eye were Shirley, big player and strong in front of the net. MacDonald (sp?) great speed, don't think she got any points but seems always to be a threat. Lansing on D, great poise and has some offensive skills as well.
Only a few Buckeyes seemed to show up for the entire game. Laaksonen was her consistent self on D and was the only D I thought who consistently able to move the puck up to the forwards. Also thought Harrigan played well, again seems to be a consistent performer game in and game out. I don't think she gets the recognition she deserves. Glaser also played well in goal. Don't know if she is a better goaltender than Clark but on this night, Glaser had the more difficult saves to make. Was disappointed in Creary's play.
Based upon this one game the Lakers are a better team and deserved to win the game. It wll be an interesting series in a couple of weeks when the Lakers play Princeton

Would have liked to have met you on Saturday. Great and fun game to watch.
I thought OSU totally dominated the first 10 minutes of the game. IMO the next 10 minutes was more even but I will not dispute your opinion.
Samantha Shirley is my personal favorite player. I enjoy watching her play for the reasons you gave. Lansing was a big pick up for Coach Sisti last year because she is such a good D. I like the D's they brought in this year also. As for McDonald, I have enjoyed watching her play also over the last 3 years. She has great skills and very good speed. I think I was expecting more from her this year in the way of points but that is not very fair of me to get down on her like I have this year. Her role may have changed this year. Her chemistry last year with Jeffrey, Ireland and Pilger may have been the reason she scored more. With the addition of Marchase-Del Monte this year there isnt as much pressure for her to pick up the lost points from last years seniors. She is very fun to watch skate though.
After watching the Buckeyes play for the first period though I honestly thought the Lakers were doomed. Just a feeling I had. The play of Glaser kept the Buckeyes in it the whole time. That is exactly what Clark has done for the Lakers almost all year. I was impressed with the play of Glaser.
I wish the Buckeyes were playing in the CHA next year but obviously that isnt going to happen anymore. That would make Mercyhurst a better team having to play them 3 times.
The Princeton series should be quite intertaining. Wish I could make that one.
with 8 minutes left in the game its Mercyhurst 6 -- Wayne State 0

I am worried about this weekend's series with Findlay. They have been playing quite well and have a very respectable team. Their power play scares me the most. Mercyhurst will have to stay out of the sin bin to win. I dont think Mercyhurst will have a problem dominating the play but I think they may have a problem scoring. If Mercyhurst can get out to an early lead and keep the pressure on Findlay they stand a better chance of winning. Good luck Lakers.

I've gotta tell you, I looked at the box score of the Wayne State game and for Wayne State to hold Mercyhurst to 1-0 midway thru the third.. and take into consideration that Wayne State took them to a scoreless overtime earlier in the season... my money is on Findlay earning a split this weekend. There's no way the Lakers should be rated higher than Princeton, New Hampshire or Brown who DON'T beat up on the likes of Niagara, Colgate and Quinnipiac.

Beyond the fact that Wayne State is coached by an ex-Mercyhurst coach, Jim Fetter, doesn't the score from the day before 6-0 mean anything? Mercyhurst has the second best defense in the nation, in terms of goals against, and they don't need to score a lot of goals to win. And Coach Fetter knows that team better then anybody, save the current coaching staff, so I am suprised that Mercyhurst won the first game 6-0.
As for being overated compared to Princeton, New Hampshire and Brown, Mercyhurst is ranked higher in every poll/ranking system out there (please be aware of the fact that I am responsible for two of those systems). We tied New Hampshire, and we will see what happens in two weeks when Mercyhurst takes on Princeton. Of course the last time that Mercyhurst visited an ECAC team, they tied Dartmouth. I expect a better result against Princeton.
Turning to this weeks games, I was more worried about WSU, given the Mercyhurst connection. I think Findlay will be tough, but I think we will win the pair with one shutout. We won't win 8-1, but we will get the Ws, and that's all that really counts.

Really? Well, I assume by better result you mean 3 or 4 points at Princeton. I think split is a much more likely and reasonable projection. Mercyhurst has never swept a team of Princeton's caliber - the most respectable single weekend performances they have are sweeps of Colgate and Findlay. And they took 3 points from Yale, 3 points from Providence and UNH which are both examples of weaker competition than Princeton (UNH is pretty comparable with Princeton while Providence is probably weaker). So I see little from the past results to support that they'll sweep Princeton... three points, maybe. Split still seems most likely.
And looking more at matchups, neither team gives up a lot of goals. You have to respect Princeton's experience, a lot of seniors at key positions, esp. Anderson, in comparison to Mercyhurst's youth. In its games against top 10 offensive teams, Mercyhurst gives up about 2.5 goals per game. Then again, except for the Harvard game, Princeton has struggled to get goals against the top defensive teams it has played (UNH, St. L, Dartmouth). Lot of this is because their power play is shockingly bad. So they have been a bit inconsistent. Anyway, it is pretty close.

Dave,
They must sweep Princeton to have any chance making the top four in the PWR. I think the trip and the two losses to Minnesota helped this team out. Given how young this team is, I think it showed them that they need to play sharp for sixty minutes, every game. In their last five games, they have given up two goals (one of which deflected off a Mercyhurst stick on a dump in that snuck past Clark with less then a minute to go in the game against Quinnipiac). Yes, four of the games were against below average teams, but the 2-1 win against Ohio State was huge. I think the team's confidence is building, and on the road, they will pick up at least three points, if not all four. Assuming they sweep Findlay this weekend, their whole season will come down to the Princeton series, and I think they will be ready.

Period is over with a flurry of shots from Mercyhurst. Shots on Goal for the period were even at 13-13.
Thanks for the update MIC

Not much went on in the 2nd period. Mercyhurst outshot the Oilers 13-4. McDonald had another great scoring opportunity but was drug down. Not much happening out of the Shirley, Marchese Del Monte line. More to follow.

Shirley deflects one in at 17:20 from Millar and Marchase Del Monte. Looks like their line has showed up finally.
