Sounds like it was a hell of a game.

MIC-
I'm hoping you were at the game and can share how it played out?

Sorry, wasnt there. I am not sure what happened but I hope Lakersfan was there to fill us in. Sounds like Hosier didn't look good and they had to bring in Drennen.

She has played both foward and D. I think she is a better D. Very offensive minded.
After starting the season in the back, Miss Prough has played the last few games up front. Tonight, she started on a line with Agosta and Chouinard. What a line combo that is. And she tallied her first goal…which later turned out to be a very much needed goal for the Lakers. I wonder if Sisti will continue to switch her up depending on who the opponent is.

Comments from the game:

It was a night in which the power play ruled. Mercyhurst (3 of 5) used the only two power plays in the third to pull out the victory, while BU (4 of 7) got three power play goals in a row to tie the game in the second. MC dominated the power play, controlling the puck in the BU zone for much of the time. BU was not as dominant, but shot from the outside when they could, and chased Hoosier after two .

Goaltending was not great at either end. Chouinard (MC) was the star of the game with the hatrick, while Seman (BU) was the playmaker for BU. A player to watch for BU is Anderson, who had numerous rushes to the net. She also ended up in the net about six times, which is probably why the game got a little physical near the end.

If BU has faith in both goalies, then I see Wilcox starting over Haber today. Haber had a bad goal go off her glove and did not look sharp. Coach Sisti has a big decision to make: stick with Hosier, who can be brilliant but lets in some strange ones from time to time, or go to Drennen, who has never lost a game in her career. Drennen made a great pad save sliding across the net to stop BU from going up 6-5.

Notes:

A BU assistant coach took a puck off her head late in the third. Hope she is doing well.

The BU bench was not happy with one of the linesman and his interpretation of icing, especially in terms when it should be waved off because it was a pass attempt that just missed. I have seen this linesman (I won't mention his name, oops) make these type of calls before, but one call was very liberal and it indirectly led to a Mercyhurst goal. Now the puck came out of the zone and was brought back in before Prough scored from the top of the circle, but I could feel the coach getting very angry (I can't see him since he is below me).

Merychurst had a bagpiper (a freshman apparently) play while the team was coming on the ice. Very cool.

BU has great road jerseys for numbers (makes my job easier). Now if I could just get number 11 to untuck hers...

I won't be there on Saturday, but rest of the Rutter clan (Natalie, Isaac, and Alix) will be. So if MIC is not there, I might have some key points. Of course, since my wife is chasing a 4 and a 1 year-old around the rink, she may miss some things. GO Lakers!

Which one? Was it Kerstin Matthews (the blonde) or Erika Silva (brunette)?

Hux, I'm sorry, but I don't recall. I asked their student manager about as I was leaving and she said she was doing OK.

4-1 (http://collegehockeystats.net/0708/boxes/wbu_mrc1.o13)

22 minutes spent in the box tonight. The Lakers basically played a whole period one man down...and did a very good job as they weren't scored on. To boot, Agosta scores a SH goal. 24 saves for Hoiser, so she had a much better game.I guess it should be noted that the Terriers did spend 16 minutes in the box as well. Still, it looks like there were at least a couple of times when MC had more then one player in the box at the same time giving BU a few 5-3 opportunities.

Agosta had four-point game; Sisti wins #200 (http://www.cstv.com/sports/w-hockey/stories/101307aaa.html)

..."The Lakers' power play remained red-hot as MC went 3-for-6 with the man-advantage. A day after BU scored five power-play goals, the Terriers were shut out in 10 opportunities. Mercyhurst went 6-for-12 on the power play over the weekend..."

I think it was the dark haired assistant. She wore sunglasses in the arena on Sunday.

Mercyhurst women get playoff rematch

BY RON LEONARDI
ron.leonardi@timesnews.com

Mercyhurst College senior goalie Laura Hosier remembers that feeling of overwhelming shock.

Riding a 24-game unbeaten streak last season, the Lakers entered the NCAA Division I women's hockey tournament with national championship aspirations.

Their run to a possible NCAA Frozen Four appearance ended March 9, when Minnesota Duluth upset the No. 2-ranked Lakers 3-2 in overtime in the NCAA Division I quarterfinals before a standing-room-only crowd of 1,350 at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

"For a few days, it never really sunk in that the ride was over because we had been riding this wave of emotion for so long and, all of a sudden, it came crashing down," Hosier said. "It took a while to sink in. It was an absolute heartbreaker."

For Hosier and the Lakers, it's rematch time. The Lakers face off against UMD today at 4:07 p.m. and Sunday at 2:07 p.m. at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center in Duluth, Minn.

"I've definitely been looking forward to these games a lot," said Hosier, who set a single-season school record with 27 wins in 2006-07. "After last year, that was obviously a crushing defeat for us. I've used it as motivation to work harder over the summer and make sure I got my game up a lot better than where it needs to be. If you talk to the freshmen about it, they understand what's on the line for this series. At the same time, it's a new team and a new year and we're trying to look at it as a clean slate."

With a 5-0 record, the Lakers are off to their best start in the program's nine-year history. They rank No. 2 in the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Division I polls. UMD (4-0) has shut out every opponent and ranks No. 5 in both national polls.

"We worked so hard last year, and as much as that playoff loss hurt, life goes on," Mercyhurst sophomore forward Meghan Agosta said. "This season we've set new goals and I really think as time goes on, we're going to have the team to do it. We definitely have a new team this year. Whatever happened in the past, happened in the past. This is a new year."

Last year's playoff game marked the first meeting between Mercyhurst and Duluth, which won NCAA Division I national championships in 2001, 2002 and 2003.

After upsetting the Lakers in the opening round, Duluth advanced to the Frozen Four and lost 4-1 in the finals to two-time defending national champion Wisconsin.

"Realistically, we're both very different teams," Mercyhurst College coach Michael Sisti said. "Both of us might have lost 10 players. We have tons of young talent. Last year was an NCAA playoff game at the end of the year. This is an early season matchup between two programs with great traditions. We're excited to play Duluth because we've never been there and we always wanted to play them. The nice thing with our team is we've always been really excited to play at new places or play great teams. I think that's what it's all about. It's the competitor in all us."

After 2 periods.MC 1 and UMD 0. MC outshot UMD 14-0 in second (28-8 after two periods). Martin is doing great job in net for UMD.

Final 1-1 after overtime. UMD came back strong and MC played very well in the third and in overtime.

Just a reminder to everyone who has depended on Live Stats -- You can get a fairly decent quality live video and audio feed for many of these games on B2. The price is $6.00 charged online to your credit card. I watched both UMD games on B2 (although B2 screwed up the start time on the Saturday game and I missed most of the first period). I think it's worth the six bucks. Anybody else try it yet? The URL is www.b2livetv.com

I watched the game as well. It's great to be able to sit at home in NH on a Wildcats off day, and clean house, do laundry... while watching women's hockey on TV (via S - video connection from laptop) I also watched Wisco - St. Cloud game 2 (lots of laundry;) )

I watched them also...was bummed by failure of B2 to adjust the start time when it was changed. Announcing was so, so...when I watched MC vs. Maine the local MC announcer was much clearer and seemed better informed (and more neutral). The only other challenge is the lighting in the arena. It varies and in those arenas that have better lighting on far side you see the team boxes a bit better (if they are opposite the camera). My opinions. It was certainly worth the $6.

Agreed. on all accounts. I recommend it. But not to anyone that has a slow(er) connection.

The lighting was definitley better in one of the two games. I can't remember which. I didn't get in from mowing my lawn until the second period of the game with start up difficulties. I'll stop kicking myself in the butt for bad timing:)
I watched the BC - RPI game the week prior. They had some audio issues too. At first none, then earsplitting, big dog scaring loud very suddenly! Once they fixed that, it wasn't bad. All in all, I'm not spoiled enough to complain yet.
