6-0 Mercyhurst after 2 periods.
Shots in the 2nd were 15-2. Goals by Pendelton and Jones. I believe Agosta has 4 points so far. Also, MC had two off the post.

Final Shots on Goal were 58-3. Totally dominating performance by the Lakers.
Really not much to say here about the game. There were a total of about 4 pipes hit and many 4th liners played quite a bit in the 3rd. Still controlled play in the RMU end. Can't really comment on the play by Drennen as she didn't have much to do today. It was nice that the student section was chanting her name as the game ended.
Next week is Wayne St. I hope it's as dominating as today.

I checked around the attendance today and it looks like MC drew the largest crowd, 1400. Minnie had just over 1000. Congrats Lakers.

'Hurst's hoped-for title run starts today
BY RON LEONARDI

One win or tie against Wayne State this weekend is all that separates No. 1-ranked Mercyhurst College from winning its fifth consecutive women's College Hockey America regular-season title.
That would be the first championship goal for the Lakers (27-1-2), who host Wayne State(12-15-1) today at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Ice Center in their final home games of the regular season.
The Lakers will try to win their fifth straight CHA playoff championship March 2-3 in Moon Township. The ultimate prize - a Division I championship - could come March 16-18 at the NCAA Women's Frozen Four tournament in Lake Placid, N.Y.
"Longevity is the greatest measuring stick of a program," Mercyhurst coach Michael Sisti said. "Our season is all about trying to win championships. That's the way the program is and that's our barometer of success. If we're fortunate enough to win a conference title this weekend, it would be our seventh straight league championship. That's something pretty special."
Mercyhurst has won all four CHA regular-season and playoff championships since the formation of the league in 2002-03. Sisti's teams won Great Lakes Women's Hockey Association regular-season titles in 2000-01 and 2001-02.
The Lakers enter the weekend with an 18-game unbeaten streak (17-0-1), a 28-0-2 series record against Wayne State and a 33-game unbeaten streak (30-0-3) against CHA opponents dating to March 2004.
Mercyhurst, which is one win shy of tying its single-season record for victories (28-7-2 in 2004-05), defeated the Warriors 8-0 and 7-5 Jan. 12-13 in Detroit.
The first-place Lakers have a 8-0-0 CHA record and 16 points. Wayne State, coached by former Mercyhurst assistant Jim Fetter, is second in the conference with a 4-4 record and eight points. Each team has four regular-season games remaining.
"They're very good and I think Wayne State plays its best against us," Sisti said. "I'm sure when they list their season goals, trying to knock us off is one of them. Over the years, we've been down to them in some games and had to pull some tricks out of the bag to win."
The Lakers close out the home portion of their regular season this weekend. They end the regular season with a two-game series at Niagara Feb. 23-24, travel to the league playoffs, then expect to host a NCAA quarterfinal playoff game March 9, 10 or 11.
Sisti said it will be a rough stretch. Several of his players are fighting off colds and flu, and the Lakers will have the added pressure of having to deal with final exams most of next week.
"I think every team goes through a stage of their season when they have to gut-check it through some adversity, whether it's injuries or illnesses or losing," Sisti said. "This is our stretch. I think the kids need to get through their exams, brush themselves off and take a deep breath. We need to grind it out and play some tough hockey the next two weekends."

i've seen MC play 2-3 times and Wayne State 4 times this year and i think MC will win by a minimum of 4 goals. there is noway that Wayne State can play at the same level as MC.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a split or tie this weekend. I am sure Coach Fetter is tired of losing to his old team and wants to punch the CHA bully's right in the face.

one sees this every spring at the Kentucky Derby. somebody shows up with a bunch of ponies and wants to "RUN" on the fast track with the horses.
Fetter also wants all those Canadians he recruits every year to win something but always comes up short. i doubt it has anything to do with the exchange rate either.
the only "SPLIT" Wayne State will get is when they "split" out of town.

After one period MC up 3-0. Shots on goal were 10-4 in favor of the Hurst. Two pipes also for the Lakers. Bad day for WSU as not only are they losing but one of their trainers took a puck to the mouth during the period. Also, the Lakers have spent a lot of time in the penalty box. Wayne St. will start the period with a 5-3. Goals by Chouinard, Agosta and Jones.

Not much to report in the final period. MC had a goal disallowed. Apperantly the net was off its moorings but I didnt see it that way. It would have been Agosta. Anyway, Wayne St. played well enough to stay in the game and it will be interesting to see how they come out tomorrow. Most of the time teams don't play so well on the second day here for some reason. Maybe they are just ready to get on the bus and go home.
Congrats to MC for clinching the regular season title again with this win.

Agosta's breakaway makes it 2-0 after 2. I didn't hear the shots on goal but MC did better that period. The girls need to finish strong.

Schroeder scores for Wayne St. :27 seconds into the 3rd on the power play to cut it in half. This could be a good finish.
