End of one. Mercyhurst outshot Yale 16-12. Great opportunities by both teams. The goal was really pretty. Barch was getting roughed up pretty good in front of the net and backhanded it in.

Clark just came up with two huge saves on giveaways in their own zone. A Laker made a perfect centering pass to a Yale player all alone in front and Clark made a beautiful save. Seconds later another Laker did the same thing. Great job by Clark. All in the first minute and a half of the period.

Yale on another power play. Millar off at 5:57 for holding someone who was on a breakaway. Good penalty but I am not sure it just wasnt a good play by Millar.

Mercyhurst just killed off another penalty and then another one back in the box. Sisti is blowing a gasket on the ref.

OT time.

SOG in the period were Mercyhurst 19 Yale 7. Mercyhurst had a lot of chances in the last 7 minutes of the game. They are starting to play well.

Game ends with a flurry of quality shots from both teams. My opinion is Desi Clark is number 1 star. She had to make many good saves.

Yale is a good team. Many times people, myself included, will say "well, we just didnt play well". Well, Yale played very well. All I knew about Yale was they had some team speed. They definately had speed but I was impressed with their heart. Class team. Also, I thought Barch, Lansing and Clark played exceptionally well today.

I see the Yale goalie Love got the number one star. I wont disagree with that but I really thought Clark had to make harder saves. Yale had their season share of breakaways and mini-breakaways that Clark stoned them on.

Next up is an important weekend with Providence and New Hampshire. I think Mercyhurst is going to have to play a little better to win but I think it is very possible. The Lakers are going to have to put the puck in the net a little more though. (Obviously if they only scored one goal today). If Clark can continue to play at the level she is playing she will keep them in both games.

I only made the first period of the game today so I cant say a whole lot about the performance today. Providence dominated the play but didnt have many scoring opportunities IMO. Providence was a little quicker than Mercyhurst. The Mercyhurst goal was a real nice looking goal. Providence thought the goal went in off a skate but the referee allowed it. The second roughting penalty by Providence in the first period was one of the hardest open ice checks I have ever seen.

A wins a win. We will take it.

I got to talk with someone who was at the womens game and they told me that the game was a lot closer than the shots make it out to be. I believe Providence had 15 shots on goal in the 2nd but they only had one scoring chance the whole period. That was pretty much what I saw in the first period. Alot of the shots were due to the two 5 on 3 chances the Friars had. I feel a little better after hearing that. They will have to turn in a good performance tomorrow against New Hampshire to get another win. Good luck Lakers.

Which would be the story behind just about every Providence game this season.

It was Providence's game to win. They shot the puck like crazy, played good defense, but couldn't get the puck past Desi Clark. Mercyhurst tried really hard to lose this game by creating two 3 on 5 penalty kills for themselves. The first ended when Providence was called for obstructiion-holding, the second ended in the second Friar goal. I was very impressed with Providence, and I am suprised that the have such a poor record. They remind me a lot of Mercyhurst two years ago, they hustle, gets lots of shoots, but can't put it in the net.

Each team had a goal taken away due to the net coming off the "pegs." Providence also had one hit the post, fall straight down, and just sit there for a second before a Hurst defender swept it away. A very physical game as well. It was fun to watch.
