Why this weekend's sweep of Dartmouth is significant for Mercyhurst.
Assuming that the ultimate goal is to win the NCAA championship...
1) We have two wins against a team that will likely be a "Team Under Consideration." That's two points in a direct pairwise comparison to Dartmouth, and helpful against everyone else. Since our conference schedule is usually light on TUC teams, Mercyhurst needs to pick up wins when it can. This result greatly increases the probability of receiving an at-large bid to the tournament. Since the CHA has no auto-bid, Mercyhurst needs to be in the top 5 to be assured an invitation.
2) Winning a 1-0 game against a quality team like Dartmouth gives a big mental boost to Hosier and the defense. The confidence will be up when we travel to St. Lawrence (for two games) and to New Hampshire.
3) Winning after being down 0-2 to a quality team shows how this team has improved from years past. Finally, the offense is there to makeup for lapses in the defensive end or for great plays by the other team.
Bottom Line: If Mercyhurst wins the games it should, the games against St. Lawrence and New Hampshire shift from "A win or a tie and we are in good shape for getting a bid" to "A couple of wins and we can host a quarterfinal game."
Go Lakers!

Teams are out on the ice warming up. Looks like Hosier in goal for the Lakers and Bugden for the Fryars. I will try and update after each period.

Colizza redirects a Payne shot from the high post to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead after one period. It was a power play goal after Fryar goalie was called for interference at 7:26.
Shots on goal for the period were 13-10 in favor of Mercyhurst. Mercyhurst controlled play for most of the period. Providence's power play is pretty good but that is really the only offense they could muster. Hosier made a nice save on a breakaway with about 6:20 left in the period.

Bourbeau just made it 2-0 on a goal by Bourbeau. She skated up the right side and just flipped it up over Bugden. Assists go to Pendleton and Payne at 1:13.

Thanks Mic. It is really great to have your updates. Looks like lots of checking penalties against Mercyhurst. Are they really checks? Your thoughts?

Not sure what is going here. I think Coach Sisti put a tape of Slapshot on between periods. This is the most undisciplined effort I have ever seen out of these girls. I think we just took our 4th roughing/checking/check to the head penalty of the period. We are fortunate we are up 2-0 right now. There is about 5 minutes left in the period.

Bonnello scores on a nice feed from Colizza on a 2 on 1 to put the Lakers up 3-0. I hope the scoring continues and the penalties stop.

After 2 periods Lakers lead 3-0. Shots on goal in the period were 13-11 in favor of Mercyhurst. The shots could have been worse for Providence if the Lakers didn't spend some much time in the box.

Sorry for the long delay.
Nothing really happened in the 3rd period. Score ended 3-0 in favor of MC.
I really think they will have to play a little better on the road next week.
Good luck Lakers!!!

Anyone from Colgate at game tonight? Live stats has the Mercyhust logo over stats for Brown from the last game. Hope it changes at game time in about one half hour.

Hurst over Colgate 4-2 on goals by Agosta, Chouinard, Jones and Colizza.
Also saw that Dartmonth and Harvard won.

Interesting penalties in this game. A Colgate player was called for a Deliberate Injury call and Pendleton was called for "CTH ROughing". What is that?
Hopefully Mercyhurst gets a more convincing win tonight. Also, I see Hosier gave up 2 goals on 5 shots in the 1st period. I really hope she picks up her game soon or Coach Sisti makes a change. I realize she threw a shutout last week but even then she gave up a ton of rebounds.
I think "CTH Roughing" is for contact to the head.

Thanks hab. I don't know why I didn't see that.
Its almost 2:20 and no stats up on Colgate's site. I was hoping to follow the game.

MIC hope you have stats now.
More than half way through the third and it's 3-1 Mercyhurst. Hosier has had 14 shots on her so far.

Game over. 3-1 Mercyhurst. Some Major penalties. 10min. on Jones near the end of the 2nd. and a 5 min. on a Colgate player near the end of the third.
Jones ended up 2nd star of game.

The officiating for the entire weekend at Colgate was just plain awful. I cannot even begin to describe. Ugh!

Can you elaborate?
Looking at the box score for both games it looked like it was getting chippy.

I feel lost without Laker Hockey this weekend. However, it's good for the ladies. Good Luck to all the team as they go into finals next week.

Personally I think the Deliberate Injury (if that is intent to injure) call should be the one call used more often. Slew footing, blind side hits, slashing to the hands and head. That sort of thing.
