Mercyhurst once again dominating 1st period of today's contest. 2 Goals by Colizza, both PP's, has Yale ready to board the bus. Drennen in goal again. SOG 12-5 I think in favor of Mercyhurst. Yale skating hard but not getting scoring chances they need to stay with the Lakers.

Yale got off the bus and played some hockey!!! Yale dominated the 2nd period and didnt allow Mercyhurst to generate any sustained attack. Other than Nugent's missed breakaway, Mercyhurst showed very little offense. Yale outshot Mercyhurst 13-8 in the period. Yale scores two goals, one on the PP. Howser and Spring scored. Should be a good 3rd period.

I think I just saw the Yale team that beat Harvard. Even though Mercyhurst outshot Yale 13-10 in the period I thought Yale may have outplayed the Lakers in the period. It was a good period though. Howser got the goal for Yale and Colizza scored her 3rd of the game to go along with Jones' goal. A loss today would have hurt the Lakers in the standings.

Now that I have had time to digest my dinner and think back on this weekends games I have just a few observations:
First-Courney Drennen in goal is long overdue in my opinion. With that being said, I dont think she played awesome but made some nice saves non the less.
Second-I never seem to notice Samantha Shirley on the ice even when she is on the ice. I hope she picks up her game soon before the Lakers make their run for a national championship.
Third-Jill Nugent did not play very smart this weekend. She was in the penalty box probably 3 or 4 times and could have been in a few more times. I saw her cross check a girl near the end of today's game that could have proved very costly. Her shot on the breakaway was poor to say the least. She didnt make any sort of move, just tried firing it in from the point. Hmmmm.
Fourth-I dont think it is easy to replace a Teresa Marchese but Valerie Chinuard is doing a pretty good job at it. Her goal yesterday was B-U-T full. I can't wait to watch her for the next 3 1/2 years.
Fifth-It's nice to see Julia Colizza score a hat trick today. She works hard. Keep it up.
Sixth-I have seen Pendleton play both the foward and defense position but I like her playing D. She has such a hard shot from the point and I like when she playes the enforcer role like she did at times today.
Seventh-They ought to rename the Ice Center the Train Station. With the 10 goals the girls scored this weekend and the 16 goals the men scored this weekend that loud train horn was blasting all weekend.

6 minutes into the 2nd period Mercyhurst up 4-1 on Robert Morris. Four different scorers, Erickson, Pendleton, Colizza and I'm not sure of the fourth. Hosier in goal. It's broadcast on Yahoo.com (there's a link from Mercyhurst news release on the game).

ROBERT Morris might as well be PHILLIP Morris because they are going to get SMOKED this weekend,.....growing pains for a new program to say the least,.....

You are probably right about Morris getting "smoked." Things are getting chippy in the third. Without seeing stats it sounds like Robert Morris has had quite a few penalities. Hurst had at least one short handed goal.

Lakers win 5-1.
Only 5-1? I'd consider that quite an achievement for Robert Morris, considering they had only twelve skaters; eight forwards and four D, assuming they all played their position. What's the minimum number of skaters you can play with before the rules dictate that you default the game?
PS No connection to RMU or Mercyhurst.

My guess is by looking at the score sheet is that Coach Sisti played a lot of 4th liners. Nothing wrong with that...it will only make them better down the stretch. Nice to see Leslie get her first goal of the year... I'm sure all her hard work paid off on this one.
I don't even think tonights is going to be close. The Lakers know they only have a 2 hour bus ride home so they will come on strong tonight. By looking at the SOG, Mercyhurst clearly dominated the game. You know, why guess about this game, I'll just see what MICZamboni has to say,.....

I think it was actually Leslie's first goal ever as a Laker. Wonderful for her. I think it might have been Emily Berzins's first point (as an assist), also. Congratulations to both.

Thats great for Leslie...she has worked and deserves the best. Here's to hoping she scores again today,.....this kid is quietly becoming an unsung hero with this talented hockey team,.....

Well you were right Mercyhurst is really going after Robert Morris. Two short handed goals (one on a 5 on 3 favor Morris). Score after 2 is 6-0 for Mercyhurst. Drennen in goal. Not many shots on her but according to announcers several good saves. At least one was a breakaway. Hard type of game for a goalie

Leslie McArthur #1 star against UCONN!!! Thats awesome. Lets hope she and the rest of the Lakers can keep it up tomorrow against Providence. I understand Camman will be in attendance tomorrow and I expect a full report of the game.
It is nice to see the girls played well without 2 very good offensive players in Stephanie Jones and Valerie Chouinard. Congrats to Courtney Drennen on her first college shutout. Lets hope she is in net tomorrow and pitches another shutout.

I got this from the Mercyhurst website. I understand she is a good one.
Mercyhurst head coach Michael Sisti announced today that forward Angelica Lorsell, a native of Sweden, has signed a letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Mercyhurst next fall.
Lorsell was born and raised in Lidingo, an island near Stockholm. She began playing hockey at the age of 5 and played with boys until she was 13. She joined AIK, a Swedish women's team, at 14 and participated with a number of eventual Olympians. AIK won a gold medal at the Swedish Championship in both 2003 and 2004 and captured four silver medals and a bronze in other years.
Her team won the European Championship in 2005 and 2006 and the Under-18 Eastern District Tournament twice in four attempts. Lorsell was named the best Forward in 2003 and 2004 and was among the team's top five scorers in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004.
She played her first game with the Swedish Women's National Team as a 16-year old. That team finished fourth at the World Championships in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 2004. All told, she's played nearly 25 games for Team Sweden and three games for Sweden's Under-22 team.
"Angelica is an extremely gifted player with tons of skill. She has played on the Swedish National team and brings a great deal of international experience to our team," Mercyhurst Head Coach Michael Sisti said. "We're very excited to add her to our team for next year and we're positive that she'll contribute immediately. We're also excited about her potential to continue her growth and development as a player here."
Although undecided on a major, she focused on economics studies while in high school.

Hey MIC,
Are you at the Lakers game. Schedule says it's to be broadcast but it's not coming in (and I've received the other broadcasts). Is the campus station even there? Hows it going? :) I see Livestats.
Thanks

I'm here today. I was at the Erie Otter game last night so I couldnt update. I will be updating after each period in this matchup. Should be a good one.
Drennen in goal today for the Lakers. Whoever was in goal yesterday for WSU is in again today. Sorry dont know the name, I just got here and I over heard the stat girl tell her mother she was in.

After one period Wayne St. up on top of Mercyhurst 1-0. Mercyhurst has pretty much owned the puck the entire period but not getting many good scoring opportunities. Mercyhurst outshot WSU 12-9.
Scoring:
Boal at 17:36 from King.

Sounds like WSU is playing with more confidence after surviving the tidal wave of shots thrown at them the night before, stealing a point in the process,.....interesting dynamics going on here, I'm sure, as Jim Fetter did work under Mike Sisti a few years back,.....me thinks the Lakers will find a way to score enough goals to win this game even though they are down by a goal after one period,.....
