WHRB is the Harvard radio station that would carry the game. The Quarterfinals are listed in the online guide as a potential piece of programming but no guarantees. Best advice is to head to WHRB's site (link below) at game time and try both the "regular stream" and "low bandwidth" links.

So, MIC, are you going to watch the game against Harvard next Saturday?

If so, I hope you'll take with you all the best wishes, prayers, and cheers from all of us fans who can't be there. We will be listening to the game, though! I assume someone will broadcast it ... ?

Exciting times for the Lady Lakers!!!

Unfortunately, I will not be attending the game. I am not part of the program so I can not travel with the team. If there were any way I would. If Mike Rutter (Lakersfan) is going I am sure he will be happy to take those best wishes, prayers and cheers with him. Winning is doable. Moving on is a possibility so I hope the girls play there absoulute best with passion and intensity.GO LAKERS!!!!

Here is an update on the play of recruit goalie Courtney Drennen:

Courtney and her team did win the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League championship on Saturday with a 6-1 win over Loyldminster. It was the same score the night before. Coach had the other goalie play Friday night and Courtney on Saturday. The score was the same both nights. Courtney finished the playoffs with 9 goals in 5 games that included one shutout against Bowness Bruins (who have a goalie going to Princeton and two more players going D1 (Colgate maybe).

I would guess Shirley would be the captain. Assistants I'm guessing Lansing and Pendelton. Maybe Bourbeau.

Coach Mike Sisti had his contract extended through the 2008-2009 season. A nice reward for being named Coach of the Year.

While awards/recognition are always nice, there is nothing like a little job security. Congrats to Coach Sisti.

Now that I have way to much time on my hand I picked up on something in the Lethbridge Herald.
Mercyhurst recruit Courtney Drennen has been named to the Southern Alberta High School Rugby League Girls All Star Team. She played for Catholic Central High School in Lethbridge which she was allowed to do since Warner doesn't have Rugby. That probably makes her one of the few who have been named to an all star team in two countries while in youth rugby! She was All State (and MVP for state all star game) in rugby in Colorado last year.

I heard Courtney was very athletic and this may prove that.

Desi Clark to play for the Telus Lightening of the NWHL this coming season.

Team mate Teresa Marchese will join her if she has accepted the offer to play with them.

Latest tidbits from the Erie Times News. No link on their webpage, but I guess we should just be thankful that they actually ran a story, on the backpage.

1. Maria Lewis promoted to Associate Head Coach. According to the article, Maria had an offer to join BU's staff, but decided to stay at the Hurst. Congrats to Maria, and great news for the Lakers.

2. Senior forward Samantha Shirley will be playing for the Canadian Inline team at the World Championships in France (lucky Sam). She will be joining ex-teamate Terease Marchese on the team that won the gold in 2004. Good luck to Sam and T, but go USA :).

3. Incoming freshman goalie, Courtney Drennen, has been taking part in the 17/18 USA select festival in Lake Placid.

The schedule was also released (http://www.mercyhurst.edu/athletics/schedule.php?id=54), but it has been on the web for a while. Can't wait for the last two weeks of October.

I understand they are putting ice back in at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. It wont be ready for this weekends series with Mankato but very soon after.

As for this weekends games to be played at the Erie Civic Center: I have to believe Mercyhurst will be to much for Mankato. The Lakers traditionally start off slow but I think this year may be different. I plan on being there but I wont have access to a computer while there. I will try and give my best analysis of the saturday game as possible. I will not make the friday game but I think Lakerfan will be there. Keep us posted LakerFan.

Same as last year. The girls cant find the net early. They have to stop doing this. No excuse for getting shut out when you put up something like 44 shots. They better rebound tomorrow in a big way.

MIC,

.....relax, you sound like the owner of the NY Yankees,.....I dropped in to the game last nite and the only person who had a really bad nite, was the guy in stripes with red arm bands,.....MSU has some quick players and they played hard all over the ice,.....there's no question their goaltending was a great help to winning the game for them,.....that position will always be a key to any team's success,.....I was impressed by the quickness of the game, but disappointed in the frequent whistles for penalties that disrupted the flow,.....officials have to realize this isn't girls midget hockey; these are women who play the game with the same athleticism as collegiate men, and there is going to be more contact,.....many of the more successful women's teams play with an edge, (including Mercyhurst), and I think both coaches would agree that penalties are part of the game, but calling games too tight ruins the "show" for everybody, especially the players,.....look for Mercyhurst to rebound today, although there's a good chance it won't be easy,.....

Wow. What a big win for MSU! And a big loss for Mercyhurst. I don't think Mercyhurst can afford a repeat today, since few people project MSU to be in the top half of the WCHA. How much did Mercyhurst miss Marchese? Also Camman, since you mentioned how quick MSU looked, wouldn't the number of whistles actually have worked to Mercyhursts advantage, slowing MSU down a bit?

Part of the 0 for 44 can be attributed to Mankato's style -- they give you a lot of shots, but limit the quality scoring chances. The Gophers shooting percentage was often not great against them, despite having players whose ability to bury the puck wasn't in question.

Also, there tends to be a lot of penalties in Mavericks' games. They cover all over the ice, so there is usually a lot of contact. I'm curious to see if they alter their style now that they have more scorers. So far, it appears like the answer is "no".
