'gate 3 'Hurst zip on 14 shots!

Mic, what happened? Usually Des needs 113 shots to give up two goals!

Any insight?

That one loss could topple them out of the top eight!

Please!!!!

It didnt matter how many saves Desi stopped considering the Lakers didnt score any goals so come up with something else. You have tried over and over to put Desi down and your argument is no good.

Easy MicZam! It sounds like he was complimenting Clark "usually takes 113 shots for 2 goals".. that's a 99% Save pct.

Didn't sound like he was gassing her at all.

Sensitive are you?

WSU- After rereading his post I deleted much of what I wrote. The reason I wrote what I did is due to previous posts Strapped has made about Clark. You are right, it does seem like a compliment, and maybe it is, but it is no secret he hates (his words, not mine) Mercyhurst and has gassed Clark in almost all of his previous posts.

Yes, I am a little sensitive :D

The first goal was scored from a bad angle and went right through the 5-hole...the second goal was a breakaway the Barre jammed through the 5-hole and the third was an empty-netter. The story of the day was the Colgate goalie who made 43 saves in her first start in 7 games.

hamilton is right in that both goals were through the five hole, clark looked a little shaky especially on the first one. colgate goalie made at least 2 breakaway saves in the third period alone and 3 or 4 total. game was a lot closer than the shots would indicate, mercyhurst just ran into a hot goalie.

one question, why was jones not dressed for the lakers in the second game, did she get injured on saturday?

I hate when Mercyhurst runs into a good goalie. Seems to happen a lot.

Jones left sunday morning before game 2 to join the Canadian Under 22
National Team for a tournament in Germany.

Take is as a compliment. Teams get "up" when they play the better teams and Mercyhurst has proven to be a consistent top 8 team all year long.

It seems that goaltenders keep getting better. Over the course of this season, I've seen a large number of great saves for every soft goal allowed. Even some of the games where goalies have given up 7 or 8 goals, they have been the only reason that the damage wasn't far greater.

Mercyhurst seems to run into a number of hot goaltenders. Since I typically keep shot on goal statistics for Merychurst home games, I have always thought that Merychurst takes a low percentage of quality shots. Here is some "statistical" evidence for this based on the top 10 teams in PWR.

(Table always looks better when you edit it.)

Team Opp. Save. Perc. Opp Schd. Strength
Dartmouth 0.848 0.5117
Wisconsin 0.868 0.5454
Minnesota 0.870 0.5640
Minnesota-Duluth 0.878 0.5436
Harvard 0.892 0.6001
New Hampshire 0.895 0.5243
St. Lawrence 0.904 0.4973
Providence 0.908 0.5281
Mercyhurst 0.914 0.5222
Princeton 0.922 0.5605

Merychurst has the third easiest schedule but ranks 9th in shooting percentage (1-Opp. Save Perc). If I had to pick one reason why Merychurst is underachieving this year, IMHO, it is their knack to completely lose the ability to put the puck in the net for long periods of time. Great defense, great goaltending, but they have trouble finishing. Note, this could be a result of me inflating the number of shots of goal that Merychurst has during home games, but I would like to think that is not the case.

If anyone at collegehockeystats.com is reading this, please add team shooting percentage to the national statistics page. Making these tables by hand is time consuming.

Tonight's game is on Brown radio, in case you didn't know:

don't have to pay anything, but you do have to sit through an annoying 2-minute add.

Critical victory for Mercyhurst today to finish off a sweep of Brown. Mercyhurst just has to keep winning with Cornell, Quinnipiac, Wayne State and the CHA playoffs left to play. Roll on.

I would have to think that Laura Hosier must have played awesome on Friday night to get the nod in saturdays game between the pipes. Desi Clark is obviously a great goaltender (and from what I hear, a great person too) so this speaks volumes for Hosier. Hosier hasnt lost a game this year and has played against good teams so it isnt a case of playing Hosier against weak teams. This bodes well for the Lakers for the next 3 years.

Actually , listening to the games I think Hosier was tested more on Saturday and passed the test with flying colors. I think that Sisti is just comfortable with either Desi or Laura between the pipes. He counts heavily on the Lakers to help the net minder and keep the quality shots down. One unfortunate occurance from the weekend is McDonald's injury. Lets hope things go well with the medical exam of her knee on Monday.

I saw Sara at the rink on Sunday with a knee brace on. For the sake of killing the power play I hope she is ok!!!

I agree that Coach Sisti is comfortable with both netminders. He must be to sit a Patty Kaz nominee. I understand Desi Clark is the appitamy of a team player and I am sure she is ok and is Laura's biggest supporter.

Mercyhurst off to a very good start. After 1 period the Lakers are up 2-0. Goals by Sarah Kurth (1st of the year) and Bourbeau. 2nd goal was power play. Marchese has assisted on both goals.

Shots on goal 17-2.

Good start == who is in the net? I see that Brown beat St Lawrence last nite , I wonder what impact if any it will have on the polls.

Clark in goal. Brown winning is good for Mercyhurst. Polls should be slightly different on Monday, although todays games have yet to be played.

After 2 periods Mercyhurst continues to dominate. Samantha Shirley's power play goal at 7:25 put them up by three.

Marchese assisted again to give her 3 on the day.

Shots on goal for the period 19-5. Two period total of 36-7.

Its nice to see Leslie McArthur playing a lot more. By the looks of her play she has deserved the extended ice time.

Mercyhurst wins 5-0 with goals coming from Shirley and Marchese in the 3rd.

Shots on goal 16-8 for the period, 52-15 for the game.

Another shut out for Clark. Keep rolling Lakers!!!!
