Congrats to Mercyhurst Asst. Coach Maria Lewis. This will only help her in her recruiting and eventually as a head coach. This came from today's Erie Times News.
'Hurst hockey assistant heads for Select camp
Mercyhurst College assistant women's hockey coach Maria Lewis has been invited to coach and manage the U.S. Olympic Select 17 camp Sunday through Friday in Lake Placid, N.Y.

It was reported on the news tonight in Erie that Aaron Kemp, formally of Canisius, is the new assistant coach for the Mercyhurst Lakers womens hockey team. Kemp was an assistant for the mens team at Canisius for the past two years. He handled the defense and special teams for the Griffs. He also did some recruiting. He comes highly regarded from what I have heard. Good luck Aaron!!!

Sister Damian, "The Nun", who sits behind the west end goalkeeper with her cowbell and holy water passed away yesterday at 83. She suffered a heart attack getting ready for work at the switchboard at the college. She will be sadly missed by players, family, coaches, staff, and fans.

Quinnipiac came into yesterdays game a little shorthanded. Looking at the roster on collegehockeystats.com, there were many empty spots. Todays game should be a little different. I didnt make the game but I will today.
Parents and fans, I know some of you have asked me to continue updating the games as the game is on. I have taken on a new responsibility during games so it is harder for me to update during the games. If I can get a free moment I will though. No promises.

0-0 after the 1st period. Shots on goal favor the Lakers 16-4. Many penalties on the Bobcats but the Lakers have nothing to show for it.
Thanks MIC
From the stats it looks like the Lakers got off to a slow start yesterday too. Hope we see them finding the net in the 2nd and 3rd

Final 2-1 Mercyhurst. Goals from Jackson and Jarrell. QU played very physical and had quite a few penalties.
How do you win 11 - 1 one day and 2 - 1 the very next day??

It's fixed. The problem was a leading backslash being left off of the URL, so it was going to www.uscho.com/women/news instead of www.uscho.com/news. I check that stuff and had fixed that before, but I obviously must have replaced the front with an older version. Oh well. Next time. Email me right away if there are ever broken links there.

The better question is how do you lose one day 11-1 and only 2-1 the next day? The answer to both questions would be that QU played with a little more enthusiasm on Sunday. Mercyhurst skated around QU like they were pylons on saturday and then forced them to work on Sunday.

Mercyhurst can't afford many more loses if they expect to make the NCAA's. This would have been a good weekend if they escaped with at least one win. It is nice to see the freshman and sophomores contributing so much already. Keep it up!!!

1-0 after one period. MC goal by Bourbeau with 1:09 remaining in first.
Thanks MIC
I'm thinking the game must be almost over by now if not in overtime. Any more scoring?

Looks like 2-1 final Lakers. Clarkson has to be very happy with this result against an established program.

Yes, final 2-1 Mercyhurst. Sorry, I got real busy afterward. Jones scored in the 2nd and Williams scored for Clarkson on a giveaway in the hurst zone. MC held Clarkson to 0 shots on goal in the 3rd. Good defensive effort by the girls. We ran into another got goaltender. Hopefully we can start scoring in bunches soon.

I think the Friday night game against Clarkson summarizes how Mercyhurst has played at home this year (when I have seen them). They won 2-1. In the third period, Clarkson got off one shot attempt, it went wide, and it was taken in the last minute after Clarkson pulled the goalie. The number of goals scored by Mercyhurst in the third period they dominated: zero.
The forwards are playing well, defensively, with a great forecheck. They are not generating any quality scoring chances. Hurst is shooting the puck, right into the pads or the belly of the goalie. Only late in the second half of the third period did the Clarkson goalie have to use her glove any amount of time. And the defense is playing well, in the offensive zone. They also gave up the goal on a giveaway and allowed a three on none in the second that a "well rested" Clark shut down with a nice save.
Mercyhurst needs to improve their shooting and get the defense playing well in its own zone if they want any chance of making the postseason. They will win their fair share of games, but it won't be pretty, and they can't play like they did last night against a top ten team and expect to win.
MIC, I was doing stats in the media booth last night, and I noticed that the blue line in the east end has a little wobble in it. Do you folks need a bigger straight edge?

After one period Mercyhurst is up 3-0. MC outshot Clarkson something like 20-4. Two goals by Colizza and one by Marchese. Marchese's was one of beauty. Stole the puck at the redline, literally skated around 3 girls like they were pylons shot, got her rebound and stuffed it home. Shorthanded to boot.
