Minnesota starts the year with the belt but I have to believe the belt will change hands 5 or 6 times this year. Anyone want to take the over? Oh wait, no betting on the message board. My fault. :D

St. Lawrence owns the belt. (that's 1 change of possession, for those keeping track)

Give it a few weeks and UNH will be in the belt hunt. They are loaded.

On Dec. 2nd, Clarkson wrenched the belt away from St. Lawrence ...

... only to lose it to Niagara in their first defense on Dec. 9th. With their win on Dec. 10th, the Purple Eagles retain the championship belt through the close of the 2005 portion of the season.

So a team in the CHA owns the belt and it's not Mercyhurst!!! Personally, I think that is great.

So a team in the CHA owns the belt and it's not Mercyhurst!!!Well, it is now.

Belt update:

Providence took the belt on January 7th by defeating Niagara. They held it until ...

January 8th, when they lost it to Mercyhurst. The Purple Eagles will have a chance to win the belt back next weekend.

Mercyhurst retains the belt by sweeping Niagara and will next defend it in New Hampshire.

So far the belt has changed hands 5 times. Something tells me if Mercyhurst loses it this weekend it will change hands another 3 times.

Not Quite near there. About 1500 miles or so east. Good try though ;)

1,500 miles east of Madison? It sounds like the belt is lost in the Atlantic.

Well one thing we do know -- unless somebody like a Clarkson or RPI winds up with it in the meantime, somebody will be bringing the belt to Minneapolis in March. That is where its summer home will be decided.

We'll take that!
Thank you ;)

Reminder to Harvard and UNH -- whoever wins on Friday, remember to bring the belt with you to the Frozen 4.

At least the Gophs were able to possess The Belt one more time. Now it, like every other trophy for which WCHA teams strive, will spend the summer in Madison.

The Badgers retained the Belt through their trip to Columbus. Personally, I'd like to see it making another (round) trip to Ohio next week.
