Time once again to fire up the polls as hockey season starts to come toward us full blown as we change over from the nice septemeber to the wretched cold of a New York October.....
This will be the 2nd year of existence for this poll and things went very nicely last year so its back again...Id like to thank everyone for voting last year and hopefully you will do it again this year so we can truly get a nation-wide view on things....Please keep it realistic though...this is something we didnt have a problem with last year and hopefully we wont have one again this year!!!
1.Elmira
2.Manhattanville
3.River Falls
4.Plattsburgh
5.Stevens Point
6.Bowdoin
7.Middlebury
8.Williams
9.Superior
10.St. Thomas
please post at will and get this baby going!!!!
I'm not sure where, but I think RPI should be in the top ten. They most likely won't be able to compete with the Elmira's of the world but I think a number 8,9,10 ranking is warranted. They only lost 3 players to graduation, and honestly only Sauca was an impact player. The recruiting class looks good on paper so far (don't they all!) so I would venture to say this RPI team will very likely be better than last years's team.
I'd like to pick somebody other than the Eagles for #1, and there are a few contenders....but I guess to be realistic I have to grudgingly give them the nod again:
1. Elmira
2. Manhattanville (also grudgingly)
3. Middlebury (maybe a vote from the heart: I like teams with tradition and when I think Div3 tradition I think Middlebury)
4. Superior (hey!...everyone needs a long shot on their list)
5. Plattsburgh
6. Rensselaer (look for them to upset Manhattanville in at least one of the games at Houston rink, but then bow out in the playoffs)
7. River Falls
8. Williams
9. Stevens Point
10. Utica
11. MIT (just kidding)

I heard they were loaded this year?
I thought I was being very generous in moving Utica up to #10 on my list. We're talking about a team that barely played .500 hockey last year! I picked them as #10 mostly on the basis that it looks like they should be losing few if any graduates. When you say that they are "loaded" have you heard something about new recruits?

Hey Hab,
Why do you think that UW-Superior will rise above River Falls & Stevens Point? They were under .500 last year, though they did beat Stevens Point at home once. New coach, lots of new recruits, and a rebuilt rink?

1. Elmira - I believe they only lose one player
2. UWSP - Same team as last year - should be really strong.
3. UWRF - Only lose a few - almost upset Elmira last year.
4. Plattsburgh - Only lose a few - strong team
5. Middlebury - Always have a strong year
6. UWS - top 3 scorers & top 3 D are back. Great recruits
7. Manhattanville - lose about 5 but should still be up there
8. St Thomas - should win the MIAC - lose a couple of key players
9. Bowdoin - lose a lot of players this year
10. Williams - same as Bowdoin

OK...I am going out on a limb with my Hamilton call at number 8, but I was impressed with their play last year and think that they may surprize some. My NESCAC bias is apparent, but hey there should be spme clarity early as Bowdoin tangles with both Plattsburgh and Manhattanville early in the season...

When I did my first pass at prediction it was looking too much like last year's top ten, so I went back through and said "who is going to surprise on the upside and who is going to disappoint". I picked Superior to surprise because of the potential for the new recruits to have an impact, and I picked Bowdoin to drop out of sight because of the number of quality players lost. After all, don't want these predictions to get too......predictable.

I'll echo that Superior has a great class. Erin Kegley is a speedy forward who can put the puck in the net. Some of you Badger fans may remember her sister Kelly who was one of Sasner first recruits and played quite a bit in her first two years. I think Falls has a shot, it's the fourth year of the program, all the players are Cranston recruits and no team in the nation plays better D.

I believe "D" is where you build your team and that's what coach Cranston did. That's also why I gave UWS a top ten pick.
The 3 UWS defence recruits (Katie King 1X, Caitlin Jarrett 1X & Susan Crabb 3X) were all chosen for last years annual College Prospects Tournament in Toronto, as being in the top 50 defence in Ontario. Not a bad way to start rebuilding your defence.
I've heard a lot of good things about Kegley as well, but I only get a chance to see the Ontario girls.

we have 8 entries so far folks....lets try and get er up to around 15 so we can have a true nation-wide opinion of what the poll should look like.......
Positions 2-6 right now are really close and it will be interesting to see how those five teams end up with a few more added entries.....
good luck and keep 'em coming!! we still have plenty of time before the season starts!!
