I am sure that geography comes into play as well, with the greater Boston area being centrally located.
I really don't see Boston being central playoff location, not when you have 75% of the teams driving in from mid to western part of Mass and CT.
I would say Worcester or further west would be centrally located.
As far as man power and money to administer the tournament, are we talking are talking about 6 - 8 hours of ice? I'm not privy to the cost of an hour of ice, but think the 30 + prep schools can afford it. Let's have the tournament in various locations, its about fairness.

ice has to be scheduled months in advance. No one knows what schools will qualify for the playoffs when this has to be done.

Let's see which school will step up to host it when they have no guarantee that their team will qualify. Maybe some school will, but there are practicalities to consider.

Toots, I don't understand your reasoning.
1. The percentage of mid and west Mass teams and CT teams make up the vast majority of teams to qualify every single year. True? Besides Nobles, I think Milton was the only other Boston team to qualify and that was some years ago. IMO I think fairness should rule here, lets move it around, different location every year.
2. Scheduling months or years in advance is not a problem! Are you kidding, every prep school would be fighting over the honor and privlegdge to highlight their school whether their team made the cut or not.
3. Are we talking a $2,000 dollars here for 6-8 hours of ice, 2 janitors, police detail?

All good points, but it begs the question as to why the schools aren't fighting to host the event now? Do they prefer to have their ice used by local youth organizations at $225 an hour, or would they have to eat the cost of the ice if they hosted? ( I doubt that would be the case, with the governing body being more likely to pick up the costs.)
However, if it was moved around would you really like to have it at Berkshire one year, and then Kents Hill the next, followed by Thayer etc.? Ultimately you will still end up driving all over the countryside.

for 2006
D1:
western MA: Berkshire School
Boston area: Noble & Greenough, Lawrence Academy, Phillips Academy-Andover
CT: Pomfret School, Choate Rosemary Hall, Loomis Chaffee, Westminster
D2:
NH: Brewster Academy, Hebron Academy
ME: Kent's Hill
Boston area: Brooks School, Rivers
CT: Kingswood-Oxford, Greenwich Academy
RI: St. George's
Each reader will decide if that is a vast majority or actually closer to 50-50 for western MA and CT schools (7) to the Boston area and NH and ME (8). St. George's isn't much more than an hour to Boston.

that is your opinion, but I have had the pleasure of being a tourney director. Not a problem if it isn't YOUR problem. It is a lot of work and all the more pressure in a very important tournament like NEPSAC's. I assume, IceLady9, that you have a favorite team or school. Ask your athletic director to be a host. You may get a positive response or he/she may say, "Are you kidding? I would rather schedule a bus ride to Boston and pay for hotels for coaches."
3. Are we talking a $2,000 dollars here for 6-8 hours of ice, 2 janitors, police detail?
and scheduling and paying refs, scorekeepers, timekeepers, concession staff, organizing lockerroom assignments, getting media there to "highlight your school" and the championship tourney, and being the point person for the 8 teams and the council.
As Taft Hockey said earlier, thank you Caroline Heatley and Dexter-Southfield School. And, ultimately, I don't think one team is focused on "having to play in Boston again" if they are fortunate enough to win on Wednesday. They will be and should be pleased to make it that far as it is a testament to hard work and teamwork.

Easy Toots - deep breath, your making this too complicated. Example: Cushing would love to have the tourney, the systems are all in place at all the prep shools. The season ended 4 days ago, the refs are still at the snack bar and the time keeper is reading her book in the warm room. Absolutely no one has stepped on the ice all day, its smooth, a sweet shine& we are ready to go! Seriously Toots, Cushing is centrally located, not for all but surely an easy drive and not as complicated to locate as Dexter. I would also love to see other sponsors -- Tabor (down rt. 495) or maybe even Pomfret, CT (South of Worcester off 395) or many other teams. My favorite school in the same as yours, and the AD said she would honored to have the opprontunity to hightlight the her favorite school.

Having had two children playing hockey for almost ten years now, what's the big deal about driving a couple of hours for playoff games? Over those ten years we've driven so many miles that it's really just an expected inconvenience, a part of The Game that you make the best of. Often I wonder, if I had the choice, which would I take, a winning Powerball ticket or my gas money for those ten years back. God bless the folks at Dexter. It's a nice facility and hopefully on Saturday and Sunday we'll be muddling our way through Boston to find the rink. Good luck to all the teams involved in both the D1 and D2 playoffs. Play hard, have fun.

Hey, I would love to drive a few hours to watch the playoff games at Dexter...I'm 14 hours away and so jealous of anyone within only a few hours! Remember .. the glass is half full not half empty!
So anxious to hear the score between Westminster & Berkshire.....http://www.ushr.com/preps/?gender=F has advertised giving the scores of the quarter-finals between periods but so far nothing has been posted 1 hour after the first game has started. Sure would appreciate a score when somebody has it.....thanks!

One Typo. Pomfret #2 Nobles #3. I don't see Berkshire or Lawrence loosing in first round, the two most balanced teams I saw this year. Wild card being Hillary Knight having a great game and carrying Choate over Lawrence, but I don't see it happening. Only upset I see in the first round is Andover over Nobles. Nobles has not looked good the last few weeks.
WOW good call! Nobles upset by Andover 3-0. still waiting on third period LA 3-2 over Choate

Lawrence defeated Choate's 5-3. For LA, two goals by Hollstein and 3 by Prough. Knight and Geramisov scored for Choate and, I'm sorry, but I never saw who got their third goal.
The tournament is not re-seeded after the quarterfinals, so on Saturday for Division I, we have Lawrence vs Berkshire at 2 pm and Pomfret vs Andover at 4 pm.
If you want to see the details of quarterfinal games, go to http://www.ushr.com/preps/?gender=F
And, ref11, you certainly nailed it. Care to offer your predictions for Saturday?

Prediction, sure! I'll give you one: Neither Choate or Loomis will make it beyond the first round on Wednesday.
excellent call!
My favorite school in the same as yours, and the AD said she would honored to have the opprontunity to hightlight the her favorite school. If I understand what you were trying to say, not sure if this is true as the AD of my favorite school is not female. And I am choosing to not engage in a reply to the rest of our conversation. It isn't going anywhere. We simply see things differently.

Teresa and Toots. Thanks for the ataboy, just back from the Bruins game. My thoughts for Saturday afternoon games. Pomfret over Andover. Why? I believe this is Andover's first appearance in a long time to the dance. Pomfret has made it to the semis each of the last two years. I give Pomfret's Senior laden team the edge. (Also Andover is the only team I did not ref or see play this year)
I see a minor upset (how can I call it even an upset at this stage of the season) with Lawrence winning a close one over Berkshire. These two teams have the most depth IMO, but I believe Lawrence's goaltending to be a bit stronger with more team speed.
Congrats to all the teams for making it to the dance. The girls, coach's and parent's should be proud of their accomplishments. In the end it's about the educational opportunities and life lessons this great sport brings.

Thanks toots...I actually checked that site this morning and didn't see any mention of reporting today's scores but I'll keep checking. I may sprain my finger from hitting the 'refresh' button before this week is over!! Sitting on the edge of my seat....no secret I guess which team I'm cheering for!

Brewster over Hebron 7-1. Hebron scored in about the first twenty seconds but from then on, with the exception of about two great scoring chances by Hebron in the 1st, Brewster controlled the game. Hebron goalie made a lot of stops but the Brewster girls were crashing the net and 3 or 4 goals were rebound put ins.
