NHDad- Thanks for the very detailed response. If I recall correctly, there is, at the end of the season, some type of meeting during which coaches can try to present their cases(when they wish to). If the season ended today that might be a very interesting meeting.

That's what I have been told as well. Wouldn't you love to be a fly on the wall at that meeting?

The latest:
1 Berkshire School - big win over CRH solidifies them as the top team
2 Choate Rosemary Hall - big loss to Berkshire
3 Nobles - handled Phillips easily - would meet PA in 1st round if season ended today
4 Pomfret School - should stay here - one final test vs Cushing
5 Lawrence Academy - should stay here - easy schedule rest of way
6 Phillips Academy - should solidify here, but vs. PEA you never know
7 Taft - On a slide - tough schedule rest of way
8 Westminster School - tough schedule rest of way
--------------------------------------
9 Loomis Chaffee - look for them to move up
10 Cushing Academy - tough schedule rest of way
11 BB&N - nice comeback this year, but too little too late
12 Hotchkiss School - tough schedule rest of way - tough next year

There could be movement in the 6th thru 8th spots. The final rankings are only partially in the individual teams' hands. They have to rely on the D1 teams they beat to remain above .500.

Loomis will move up - they've been quietly going about business since beating Pomfret, and their remaining schedule looks fairly easy.

Taft actually looks like they have the most difficult remaining schedule and could easily slide out of the top eight.

Westminister could very well stay in the mix, with Kent and Greenwich as part of their remaining schedule. (although I'm not familiar with Greenwich - I'm just going by past results when they've played div.1 teams).

I don't know how closely they stick to the formula for the rankings, but I agree that it would be a crime for Westminister to be ranked above Loomis when Loomis has beaten them 2-0, and most recently 5-1.

did anyone hear about the st.marks and pomfret game... it was a close one 3-2 pomfret. St.marks manages to do very well in tough game situations as they almost beat cushing as the score was 2-1

some significant results this past weekend, pieced together from school websites, ushr, nepsac, etc.

Taft defeated Choate, 5-3
Pomfret tied Cushing, 1-1
Lawrence won at Governor Dummer, 4-3
Berkshire won at Westminster 2-1
Hotchkiss won at Deerfield 3-1
Nobles defeated St. Pauls, 6-1

This opening paragraph from USHR about how they see things:
The Regular Season Winds Down

A week from now, the regular season will be over and we'll know the playoff pairings. Going into the final week, it looks like the eight teams that will make the playoffs in Div. I are, in alphabetical order,
Berkshire, Choate, Hotchkiss, Lawrence, Loomis, Nobles, Pomfret, and Taft. On the bubble are Westminster and possibly Cushing.
In Div. II, the eight look to be Brewster, Brooks, GDA, Greenwich Academy, Groton, Gunnery, Hebron, and Kents Hill.
Having good years in Div. II, but probably not good enough to make the postseason are Kingswood-Oxford, Middlesex, Proctor, and Rivers. The latter progam is in its second year.

Nice job by the Taft girls to come up with a big win over Choate.

I was at that Berkshire vs Westminster game. Westminster was really agressive and seemed to be almost at par with Bershire's stars. Berkshire seemed to be holding back, while Westminster had many opportunites. The Berkshire goalie #4 made a really wicked kick save, otherwise they would have tied. She saved their derriere.

Hmm... that's a good question. The only thing I can figure is it looks like they only have 3 wins againt d1 teams that are over .500. I haven't tried putting any of these teams into the formulas that determine placement, so I'm not really sure myself.

NHDad

They're 3 - 3 vs D1 teams over .500. multiplied by the number of D1 teams played (14) puts them in 6th place in that poll.

.500 * 14 = .7000

To compare:
Lawrence: a .650 * 11 = .750 .... so they're only slightly ahead even with the much better winning percentage ... 5th in that poll
Taft is only 5-5 for .500 * 12 = 6.000 ....theyr'e a point behind PA

Loomis Chaffee 5.958 .. 8th
Cushing Academy 3.500 .. 9th

Taft as the underdogs to Berkshire. Scoreless in the first period. Wallace put two in the second period, and one in the third for a hat trick. Steph holmes finishing the game with an empty net for the 4-1 win over Taft.

Berkshire's three seniors went out with a bang on Senior Day at Rovensky Arena, each notching a point as the Bears defeated visiting Choate 4-0 in the seniors' last home prep school game. During the seniors' farewell, it was a freshman, Kelly Wallace, who led the way on the scoreboard with a hat trick.

Wallace opened the scoring in the first, banging in a pass on the top of the crease from Steph Holmes '06 with 2:57 to play in the period for the 1-0 lead. Both teams played well defensively, and despite a shortage of scoring chances, the Bears finished the period edging Choate in shots on goal.

The Bears came out firing in the second. Sarah Appleton '06 scored a power play goal just 2:03 into the period on a slapper from the point, with an assist to Ali Edell '06. 2:06 later, Wallace added her second, another power play goal, as she converted on the doorstep from Dawn Sullivan '07 and Randi Schock '08 to make the score 3-0. Wallace finished her hat trick on a wrist shot from the slot with 1:43 to play in the period to run the score to 4-0 at the end of two.

The Bears tightened up defensively from there, and the third

to all those who noticed Phillips Academy - Andover missing from the potential D-1 postseason list, ushr.com has changed the wording of their paragraph to include Andover:

Going into the final week, it looks like there are nine teams with a strong chance to make the playoffs in Div. I. They are, in alphabetical order, Andover, Berkshire, Choate, Hotchkiss, Lawrence, Loomis, Nobles, Pomfret, and Taft.

I guess the big question now is who will be on the outside looking in....

Hotchkiss defeated Choate on Wednesday, 4-2 (according to Choate web site). That has to help, but I'll leave it to the spreadsheet masters to tell us if it is enough.

5. Choate (assuming they beat Cushing)
6. Andover
7. Loomis
8. Westminster

on the Bubble

9. Taft
10. Cushing
11. Hotchkiss

I agree with this except maybe for the eighth spot - still see taft and Westie on the bubble for that spot. ( Though I'm leaning toward taft as well ).
